This is the novelisation of the film starring Bruce Willis and Madeleine Stowe. I don't usually enjoy books written to support films but this one is an exception. Elizabeth Hand captures the story perfectly. For those who haven't seen the film 12 Monkeys is part time travel; part mystery; part psychological thriller; part post-plague world. Well worth reading and well worth viewing the film as well. As an added note Terry Gilliam based 12 Monkees on a French film - La jetée - also worth watching ...more
I was honestly surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. I picked it up because I had seen trailers for the television show but didn't have time to watch it. The premise sounded interesting, and upon finding out that there was a book (and a short one at that) I figured it would be a good if not better alternative.

Upon sitting down to read it (while doing animal testing in a lab, ironically enough) I was almost immediately gripped by the style of prose and the characters. While the psychiatrist
Sweet movie, book was created after movie. No difference except showing Brad Pitt's and Bruce Willis's bare bottoms on the bigscreen.

A fun read, but I like movie novelizations and this movie in particular, so mileage may vary.
Two words: why bother. It's a novelization of the film, which was interesting but no masterpiece in itself. Shoddy writing, seems like she phoned it in. Oh well. Two words: don't bother.
Once was enough for me to read but I do think that everyone should read it cause it is a great book.
An intriguing look at the pitfalls of time travel and of the belief that you know what the future will bring.

I remember reading it in high school. Not bad reading, but I like the movie better.
