I have a scientific curiosity about romance readers. I want to probe them like rats in a cage.

Don't worry, I'll be gentle... if you want me to.

What do they like about these novels? What characteristics appeal to them? What is the common denominator in a successful romance novel? Can I boil it down and make a formula.

Quality of foreplay X chemistry / sexual tension over time (grading scale being >50 for way too early, =80 for perfection and around 100 for aggravating over-tension, otherwise kn...more

I guess third time is the charm... At least, with the Immortals After Dark series. I wasn't impressed with The Warlord Wants Forever and A Hunger Like No Other, the first two entries in the series, but now I understand what all the fuss is about. To be honest, I wasn't "feeling the love" in the first half of this book, but things got much better in the second half.

Back in 1709, Sebastian Wroth was turned into a vampire by his brother Nikolai, the hero in The Warlord Wants Forever. That happened...more

I had a blast reading this story!I'm also sure it will come as no surprise to those who've followed my status updates that I freaking LOVED this book!

Right from the start, No Rest for the Wickedhad me captivated and giddy. I couldn't stop myself fromgiggling, laughing, clapping, and squealing with delight while I cheering the characters on in their quest to win the Talisman's Hie, the immortals' version of the TV show the Amazing Race. I also found myself eager for the love story to...more

What a fool I am! I've had this hot number sitting patiently in my TBR pile for months, just waiting for me to finally pick it up and read it! After reading the first two titles in the "Immortals After Dark" series, I was not in any real hurry to read further in the series. The first book was okay, and admittedly the second book was much better, but this one was just outstanding! I feel like I did when I finally got around to reading J.R. Ward's BDB. Now I can't wait to read more!

I'll admit I fe...more

I have been rendered speechless. No Rest for the Wicked is so amazing, I don’t think any review I write can sum up its greatness. From the get-go, Cole sucks you right in! I couldn’t pace myself at all with this book. And although I tried to stop reading many times, I just couldn’t put the book down for more than twenty minutes.

First off, I just want to gush about how much I enjoyed the hero and heroine of this book. Sebastian Wroth was a human, who was unwilling turned into...more

If you like romance, sizzling moments and lots of humor, you're good with the Immortal After Dark series.
In this third installment we see what happens when reluctant vampire Sebastian Wroth discovers that Valkyrie vampire-assassin Kaderin the Cold Hearted is his fated Bride.

This story was exciting, fun and sexy.
Sebastian was a total sweetheart. Meeting Kaderin makes his miserable vampire existence finally meaningful and he goes out of his way to win her over. And she is one tough cookie...

Revised Review:
This is the third book in the series, and it follows A Hunger Like No Other very closely. The Talisman's Hie begins (sort of an immortal Amazing Race), and we see all of the scavenger hunt-like obstacles, we also see the set-up for the next book in the series Wicked Deeds on a Winter's Night.
The Valkyrie Kaderin meets a vampire named Sebastian Wroth, brother of Nikolai Wroth from The Warlord Wants Forever. Sebastian recognizes in her his Bride...the one he is destined to be with...more

Ahhh Sebastian! *swoons* He is the perfect man. Old-time gentleman, shy, knows what he wants and fights for it, just... perfect! I wish I had my own Sebastian!

OK, so now that I got that out of the way... Kaderin is a valkyrie and she's been "cursed" with not being able to feel for a thousand years, since the death of her sisters, who were killed by a vampire. She is tough (as all valkyrie are), loves and lives for killing vampires and for the Hie (like the Amazing Race). That whole concept was n...more

Another great book in the Immortals After Dark series. Can I be honest and say that I really disliked Kaderin at first? She is one valkryie with a Valhalla-sized chip on her shoulder (Bad pun, I know). I felt bad for how she had suffered, and normally I love a strong, kickbutt heroine. But she came off massively unsympathetic and heartless initially. I didn't like the way she treated Sebastian, who was the sweetest guy. I'd love a guy like him. But over time, I grew to like Kaderin as I came to...more

Now this is what I’m talkin’ about! Yes! Finally Kresley Cole decided to take this series one step further. After reading the previous two I was worried I’ll end up being blah towards this series, since I felt it was repetitive, but after this I think this will have a place among my favorites. The book had everything it needed: mind-blowing action, an amazing story, touching moments and hot love scenes. I’m really impressed.

Now, what I loved about the story was the dynamics of it. Yes, I prefer...more

^^THE WICKED NEVER REST SO THEY HAVE ALL THE FUN!^^

No Rest For The Wicked is like an action movie to the face, it’s a series of booms, pows and mind numbing lust. Talk about a wicked read, Miss Cole writes without leaving anything to the imagination. This book begins with pure unaltered lust and hooks you like a fishing trip. So so so good!!! This is the second book in the immortals after dark series, a series that will blow your mind and make you lose your pants. Now that’s a series worth read...more

"If you love something, you protect it ruthlessly. No matter what occurs."

This series is getting better and better. The 3rd book in the 'Immortals After Dark' series by Kresley Cole is full of extreme ideas, a fast-paced plot, exquisite characters and brilliant humor.

The events revolve around the Talisman’s Hie, a contest for immortals, where the ultimate price is unimaginably precious, and the setting is more than adventurous. This savage, bloody competition gives another peek into the fabulous...more

After reading Kresley Cole's entire Immortals After Dark series back to back, I was pleasantly surprised to find that when I think back to No Rest for the Wicked (Second in a series of Seven (thus far!)) what stands out the most in my mind is the hero, Sebastian. A tortured soul who wants only to end his long, lonely existence, Sebastian is one of those extraordinary characters in romanceland that just melts your heart.

Loved the chemistry between Sebastian and Kaderin. Great twist for the ultimate vampire slayer to fall for one. Also enjoyed the global feel with all the locations of the Hie competition. More action/adventure than it's predecessor, "A Hunger Like No Other", but still plenty of hot sex...um, plane cabin? need I say more? ;)

Kaderin needed to totally change her way of thinking after meeting Sebastian. And he needed to come to grips with being a vampire and stop hiding, or was it actually sulking? They take a wild romp around the world on a scavenger hunt as they get to know each other. These are serious competitors! But then the prize made it all worth it, right? The whole concept of time travel to change the past makes my brain spin, always has, however it wasn't any harder to suspend belief for than Valkyrie, vamp...more

It started out exciting with a cold emotionless immortal female entering a race around the world to collect various items before the rest of the teams. Very Amazing Race like, except for the maiming, mangling and eventual killing part. She has not felt anything, no emotions since she was cursed ages ago. Then this vampire her sworn enemy walks into her life and dang it, she has a feeling. Sebastian, the vampire, has been cold the few decades himself. He hates being what he is, does not want to l...more

#3 in the Immortals After Dark Series and it was a wonderful paranormal romance! I enjoyed Sebastian (vampire) and Kaderin's (valkyrie) tale. Sometimes, Kaderin was too cold and mean, but her character was stripped of emotions hundreds of years ago because she could not take the pain of seeing her family murdered. She was a vampire hunter! Collected vampire teeth...he was a vampire. How 'bout that combo?

Having this book requested on PBS forced me to sit down and finally get through it. I had been hesitant of reading this one after having had such a bad taste in my mouth from A Hunger Like No Other, but I am happy to announce that I liked this one sooo much better than the first.

I loved Bastien and Katja both as independent characters and as a couple. The whole Amazing Race aspect was kinda cheesy and definitely coulda used some tweaking to add more dark twists and dangerous turns, but it was s...more

Kaderin denies her feelings for Sebastian at first, hoping there is a way to be rid of her strong emotions towards him and rightfully so. She's spent over a thousand years without emotions of any kind and as a vampire assassin. Then upon meeting her would-be target, she is compelled to spare his life and then suddenly begins to feel again, completely drawn and compelled towards him.

Sebastian has spent his life hating his brother for changing him and despising what he has become. He welcomes deat...more

In book two of the Immortals After Dark series we meet the very sexy, if not reluctant, Vampire Sebastian Wroth and his fated Bride Kaderin the Cold Hearted - Vampire assassin extraordinaire. Following the tragic death of her sisters a benevolent force deadens Kaderins sorrow, extinguishing all of her emotions in the process - until she encounters Sebastian. Burdened with hatred and alone for centuries Sebastian sees little reason to live, cursed by the brothers he thought he knew, he welcomes t...more

A thousand years ago the Valkyrie Kaderin showed mercy to a Horde vampire, and then watched the same vampire kill her sisters. She begged to not feel, and was so blessed. Now Kaderin the Coldhearted is a ruthless vampire killer, emotionless and deadly. Until she comes across one particular vampire whom not only can't she kill, but who reawakens the feelings inside her.

Sebastian was turned by his brothers against his will and has spent the last three centuries in isolation. Once a scholar and war...more

Second Review Read from December 1, 2012 to December 3, 2012

I've been in the mood for some paranormal battle action and a kick ass heroine for a while now. So to get me in the mood for Shadow's Claim, I reread one of my favorite IAD books.

Those Valkyries! You can't help but love them!

Katja and Bastian. Now this is a couple you can sink your teeth into - no pun intended. Both wicked smart, delicously attracted to each other and lethal with or without weapons. These two are literally made for each other regardless of the fact they are two warring species in the Lore. The instant magnetic sexual chemistry between them is nicely balanced by the recognition there aren't true feelings there yet. The feelings are a slow build that we get to enjoy as they traipse around the world in...more

Another Kresley Cole favourite. I still love No rest for the wicked more but this book shows the strength of a woman without the banners and flags of Wonder Woman.

Kaderin was known throughout the centuries for her cold heart and deadly skill with a sword.

So what does a girl do when faced with a recluse vampire who's heart only beats for her? Kaderin's emotions are rekindled and with the Hie coming up she definately doesn't need to be feeling hot and bothered over a vampire.

Sebastian never asked...more

This is the second book in the Immortals After Dark series. This is the story of Kaderin the Cold and she has met her mate in a vampire (which she starts off not being too happy about)- Sebastian. The story takes us from one adventure after another throughout the globe as Kaderin and Sebastian are competing for the grand prize in the Hie. In this story we once again hear from Emma and Myst and learn more about the Lore. You are also introduced to the characters for her next book. I love that abo...more

#3 IAD (Immortals After Dark) series

This is a super popular PNR series that readers are crazy about. So I must be the only person on the planet to say, this is just not my cup of tea.

The mixture of vampires, Valkyries, gnome and little supernatural creatures ... plus the scavenger hunt theme of this book ... and the Valkyrie sisters ... just don't do anything for me.
