I guess third time is the charm... At least, with the Immortals After Dark series. I wasn't impressed with The Warlord Wants Forever and A Hunger Like No Other, the first two entries in the series, but now I understand what all the fuss is about. To be honest, I wasn't "feeling the love" in the first half of this book, but things got much better in the second half.

What a fool I am! I've had this hot number sitting patiently in my TBR pile for months, just waiting for me to finally pick it up and read it! After reading the first two titles in the "Immortals After Dark" series, I was not in any real hurry to read further in the series. The first book was okay, and admittedly the second book was much better, but this one was just outstanding! I feel like I did when I finally got around to reading J.R. Ward's BDB. Now I can't wait to read more!

Now I can't wait to read more!

I'll admit I fell HARD for the hero in this book, the reluctant vampire named Sebastian Wroth. He was just the sweetest, sexiest guy, with all his vulnerabilities and his lacking in (sexual) self-confidence. And his "Bride", the valkyrie Kaderin the Cold Hearted--it took me a while to warm up to her. At first she was so mean and hurtful to Sebastian, I wondered why he stayed around. But then I grew to like her too, and by the end of the book I wanted her to get all that she dreamed of. I ended up loving these two as a couple!

I loved the whole "Amazing Race-like" plot to the book. It was fast paced, and easier to follow than the previous books, maybe because it wasn't loaded down with a lot of 'lore' terms. And while the valkyries sometimes annoyed me in the previous books, this time I found their antics very amusing. I especially liked the reference to 'Survivor' host Jeff Probst--very funny!

And although there weren't a lot of sex scenes, the few that were written were smokin' hot, and filled with emotion! Believe me, you won't even miss the lack of a lot of sex scenes, because the book is filled with longing, and sexual tension, and before you know it, it's almost over--and you won't want it to end! And if you're like me, you'll have tears in your eyes during the emotional final chapters.

For all you sceptics who don't think you'd like a paranormal romance, give this one a try. I don't read many paranormals, but I loved this one! And for all you J.R. Ward fans--if you like the BDB books, but haven't found anything that could compare, I urge you to give this book a try. It completely captivated me.(less)

I have been rendered speechless. No Rest for the Wicked is so amazing, I don’t think any review I write can sum up its greatness. From the get-go, Cole sucks you right in! I couldn’t pace myself at all with this book. And although I tried to stop reading many times, I just couldn’t put the book down for more than twenty minutes.

If you like romance, sizzling moments and lots of humor, you're good with the Immortal After Dark series.
In this third installment we see what happens when reluctant vampire Sebastian Wroth discovers that Valkyrie vampire-assassin Kaderin the Cold Hearted is his fated Bride.

This story was exciting, fun and sexy.
Sebastian was a total sweetheart. Meeting Kaderin makes his miserable vampire existence finally meaningful and he goes out of his way to win her over. And she is one tough cookie...

OK, so now that I got that out of the way... Kaderin is a valkyrie and she's been "cursed" with not being able to feel for a thousand years, since the death of her sisters, who were killed by a vampire. She is tough (as all valkyrie are), loves and lives for killing vampires and for the Hie (like the Amazing Race). That whole concept was new and interesting. Kaderin always enters (and wins) this race and this year is no different. Well, except for the fact that before it starts she hears of a vampire in a castle and goes there to slay him, but realizes that she can't. She is his Bride, and because of him, after so long, she starts to feel again. She in turn wakes him from years of misery.

Sebastian is Nikolai Wroth's brother. He was turned by Nikolai against his will and has hated being a vampire during his whole existence. He just wishes for final death. And Kaderin is the one supposed to bring it to him, which he is fine with, until he realizes she's His. The one for him. His Bride. And he will do anything to have her, protect her, cherish her, and live eternity with her.

While Kaderin has to compete in the Hie, Sebastian enters as well, with the intention of wining for her. The prize seems to be something she wants above all other things. A key to go back in time twice. He doesn't think it could work, and he doesn't know why she wants to get it, but he is determined to help her or win it for her. They have some competition, and some tough competition in the form of Bowen, the lykae who we met in the previous book, and who wants the key to go back in time and rescue his dead mate.

There a lot of action, intrigue, and some pretty amazing sexual tension and eventually, yes, sex. And even though Sebastian is not a virgin, he's not the most experienced in that department so it's up to Kaderin to teach him, which he learns quickly, and to be his first in many things.

Their relationship develops perfectly. It's not the "I'm in love" at first sight, their love develops from constantly being together, liking each other, their company, their support. Even though there were no major events in the overall world for this series, this was an excellent book and I'll be looking forward to reading the next one soon!(less)

All she had left for over a millenia was a sworn oath to destroy all vampires. In her mind, they were all of the Horde, which are the vampires who have given over to Bloodlust. She didn't realize that there were good vampires who fought the Horde.

Sebastian is a very loving character, but also a formidable warrior. He is one of the Wroth brothers, and was turned into a vampire by his oldest brothers Nikolai and Murdoch to fight in deposed Vampire King Kristoff's army to regain his kingdom. He was never good with women, being freakishly tall and lanky growing up. He had only been with two or three women in his life (compared to his playboy brother's Nikolai and Murdoch). He hated being a vampire, and was considering ending his miserable afterlife. But first he was going to try to win the Talisman Hie and get the Key, which would allow him to go back into the past and save his sisters who had died of plague back during the wars in their homeland Estonia. And then he sets his eyes on his Bride. Vampires are dead from the neck down, essentially. They cannot lust or feel desire for women until they meet their true Bride and become Blooded. It turns out that Kaderin the Coldhearted is Sebastian's Bride.

He is in love and lust. He cannot think of anything other than wooing and having his bride. He follows her around like a lost puppy. For those readers who like the alpha male bad boys, that may not sound very appealing, but it really is. Sebastian is a delicious hero. His determination to win Kaderin was very appealing to me. Kaderin is pretty annoyed and vows to kill this annoying vampire, who keeps trying to protect her, and is helping her to win the Talisman's Hie. But soon, his attractive intensity, his warrior prowess, and his masculine appeal starts to melt the ice around her heart.

So I started out this book holding Kaderin in dislike. However, seeing the way that Sebastian wins her over, and also how she is so tortured about the loss of her sisters, helped me to open my heart to Kaderin. She's not my favorite IAD heroine, but I do like her now.

No Rest for the Wicked is a great follow up to A Hunger Like No Other. Although Kaderin's cold-hearted demeanor may not be to every reader's tastes, this book is a must read for fans of paranormal, especially vampire romances. It certainly opened my eyes to the appeal of a vampire lover.(less)

This is the second book in the immortals after dark series, a series that will blow your mind and make you lose your pants. Now that’s a series worth reading.

Sabastian Wroth is like your everyday brooding vampire, who stalks around his castle hating his very existence and hoping for the day that he no longer exists. He hates what he is and hates his brothers for turning him, he would rather have had death than suffer going around feasting on human blood. So Bastian hasn’t drunk form a human and gets his blood from a butcher, not the tastiest but it sure beats suck neck. Three hundred years with no companion and living in solitude, he prays for someone to come and take his head seems that his wish is about to be granted when the sexiest female he has ever seen comes to him wielding her sword. Seems his prayers are about to be answered, and his body chooses that moment to come alive and another sword stands at attention. So the one who has come take his life is the person who has finally awakened him, his bride his one true mate.

Kaderin “the cold hearted” didn’t get her name cus she likes Alaska (burrrr). Oh no she is one heartless female, losing her sisters in battle over a thousand years ago due to a mistake on her part and she has been living with the guilt for most her life. This has left her unable to feel, she has no fear, feels no pain, shows no compassion and cant wrap her head around love. She lives to kill and destroy, lets just say she is usually the one everyone else stays away from. She lives in solitude. So upon the request of some village people she makes her way to kill a vampire that lives in a castle. She lives to kill leeches, and this kill will be way to easy or so she thought. From one look she knows she could never take the head of this vamp and something’s happening to her, seems this sex on legs and fangs is melting the iceberg she has for a heart. Oh the gods no way a vamp is her mate, she hates vamp.

And the romance begins in the best possible way with a tournament the battle of the Hie, which is the supernatural version of the Amazing Race. The prize at the end is something everyone wants and this battle becomes bloody and downright dangerous which makes it wicked. Sabastian is hoping to win the prize for his bride and she is having none of that, they butt heads more than once. The chemistry between these two is downright sinful, sexy and explosive. Two dominant characters fight for each to give up and it just works. Bastian is a dream I am in love with him, he is like a puppy with wolf tendencies. Under all that nerdy boy is a sex god, he is amazing you cant help but love his determination to prove his woman wrong. Kaderin is kick-a$$ female, strong she don’t want no man man, she sure does get one. This series so far is pure action, humour and eroticism. My fave book so far and I am just gonna go suck all the other books dry( a little vamp humour for you). Seems the wicked never rest but the good get all the pleasure. This series is getting better and better. The 3rd book in the 'Immortals After Dark' series by Kresley Cole is full of extreme ideas, a fast-paced plot, exquisite characters and brilliant humor.

The events revolve around the Talisman’s Hie, a contest for immortals, where the ultimate price is unimaginably precious, and the setting is more than adventurous. This savage, bloody competition gives another peek into the fabulous world Kresley Cole created. It is an amazing alternative reality, with amazing characters, and I’m dying to be part of it myself.

Sebastian and Kaderin’s first scene proves how important and overpowering fate is in this world.
Their relationship, reactions and feelings for each other are expressed on a very special level. They are hundreds or thousands of years-old immortals. They can’t behave like humans, their relationship can’t be standard. Their problems and mentality are strongly different than the problems of contemporary romance characters. They are driven by fate, instincts and power. I love these powerful and limitless strong emotions.

Sebastian is irresistible, ingenious, determined. He is always honest and loyal.

“A hint, Sebastian? I you’re courting a woman, you could pause a nanosecond before declaring that you don’t love her. Maybe act as though you’d considered the possibility. Or you could lie. Or you could gloss over it by predicting that you will in the future.”
“I won’t lie to you. And about love? Unions have been built on far less than we have between us. We’d passion. Attraction. Respect.”

At the beginning, he is definitely not in love, but he is so persevering. I love the way as he treats Kaderin. I love his unconditional support for her. He is a knight and a scholar in one person. I am amazed by his reasoning and discovery of tracing not only to a location but to a person as well. Oh, and I loved to read their scientific conversation on the plane after that hot night together.

Kaderin is considered to be merciless and cold-hearted. She is the daughter of gods, a true warrior. Sebastian makes her feel again, but Kaderin is obstinate and full of hate for vampires.
Kaderin is often cruel and offensive to him, and it takes a while for her to accept him, to accept her own feelings for him. I understand her prejudices toward vampires, but I was so mad when she hurt that magnificent man.

One of the Vampire race in Cole's world, Sebastian became a creature of the night hundreds of years ago when his brothers turned him into the very thing he hated the most, rather than see him die.

Sebastian never wanted this existence and certainly didn't ask for it. For centuries he lived alone, burning with hatred for the brothers who turned him and longing for death.

When the infamous Kaderin the Coldhearted, a fierce valkyrie warrior who's emotions where mercifully taken from her after witnessing the death of two beloved sisters, happens upon him- she's happy to put him out of his misery. But something about the lithe, deadly handsome Vampire stays her hand. Their first encounter awakens them both from years of numbness and Sebastian discovers he indeed has a reason to live- to protect the woman meant only for him.

Loved the chemistry between Sebastian and Kaderin. Great twist for the ultimate vampire slayer to fall for one. Also enjoyed the global feel with all the locations of the Hie competition. It started out exciting with a cold emotionless immortal female entering a race around the world to collect various items before the rest of the teams. Very Amazing Race like, except for the maiming, mangling and eventual killing part. She has not felt anything, no emotions since she was cursed ages ago. #3 in the Immortals After Dark Series and it was a wonderful paranormal romance! I enjoyed Sebastian (vampire) and Kaderin's (valkyrie) tale. Sometimes, Kaderin was too cold and mean, but her character was stripped of emotions hundreds of years ago because she could not take the pain of seeing her family murdered. She was a vampire hunter! Collected vampire teeth...he was a vampire. How 'bout that combo?

Having this book requested on PBS forced me to sit down and finally get through it. I had been hesitant of reading this one after having had such a bad taste in my mouth from A Hunger Like No Other, but I am happy to announce that I liked this one sooo much better than the first.

I loved watching Sebastian and Kaderin's relationship unfold, and as usual I totally got caught up in their emotional turmoil - and there was a lot of emotional turmoil. If it didn't involve the death of Kaderin's sisters, then it was of the death of Sebastian's family, as well as his unwelcome turning, and his Brides unbridled hatred for his species. For her to fall for a Vampire is ironic as hell, but it works.

Sebastian is beyond yummy!! I love this vamp so damn much. He is one of those broody, tortured types that I'm inexplicably drawn to. But he is also strong, fierce and determined to get what he wants regardless of what way he has to get it. i.e. wait till you read about that lil suckie suckie action he gets... lol. Kaderin is one amazingly strong woman, despite the loss of emotions, she was still determined to protect her Valkyrie kin and fight for what she believed in. Which is why she enters the Talisman's Hie - to find the key and save her sisters, preventing their deaths at the hands of a Vampire.

I liked the whole idea of an immortal competition, it brought a lot of fun and action to the storyline. The tasks set them by the goddess were unbelievable, and the fierce determination of the contestants was great. The immortals found themselves climbing snow capped mountains, swimming shark infested waters, crawling through tunnels housing half starved Succubi, and much more!! And talk about beating the crap out of each other to win. The fight scenes had me on the end of my seat, I loved it!!

I must say, I absolutely loved the scene in Colombia at the Night Club when Sebastian looses it over Kaderin letting another man touch her. The way he reacted, so much rage and fear, was heart-stopping. When he grabbed her and pulled her into that phone-box my pulse raced never mind Kaderin's... lol. And that bite!! Talk about giving her something to remember him by. All I can say is HOT!!! And taking about Hot, these two share many a kinky scene - like their first encounter obviously, then there's the jet ride, and their wee sword fight of course. Grr...

Anywho, I've said enough and could probably go on forever. This is one amazing book, grab a copy and see for yourselves. You'll love it!!(less)

Katja and Bastian. Now this is a couple you can sink your teeth into - no pun intended. Both wicked smart, delicously attracted to each other and lethal with or without weapons. Another Kresley Cole favourite. I still love No rest for the wicked more but this book shows the strength of a woman without the banners and flags of Wonder Woman.

Kaderin was known throughout the centuries for her cold heart and deadly skill with a sword.

So what does a girl do when faced with a recluse vampire who's heart only beats for her? Kaderin's emotions are rekindled and with the Hie coming up she definately doesn't need to be feeling hot and bothered over a vampire.

This is a super popular PNR series that readers are crazy about. So I must be the only person on the planet to say, this is just not my cup of tea.

The mixture of vampires, Valkyries, gnome and little supernatural creatures ... plus the scavenger hunt theme of this book ... and the Valkyrie sisters ... just don't do anything for me.
