This book is well researched and executed. I can't say that I would have worded some of the descriptions of the TonTon Macoutes the same, but this book is invaluable for anyone interested in understanding the fragile nature of Haitian society. This book could not have come out at a better time either, as currently ex-military extremists have begun occupying their old forts, holding drills and demanding the government reinstate the military.
