Prospecting on the Moon was grim, dangerous and usually unrewarding. Only most of the green-horns who came to try didn't find out until after they got there.

I read this short Clifford D. Simak novel in the 1960's. It takes place on the moon where a space miner and a female companion seek their fortune in a forbidden mysterious crater on the moon.

Pure moon sci-fi adventure. Although this is more of a novella than a novel.
