A book for curious minds...

My mother used to say, "Curiosity killed the cat." I was a curious child and an even more inquisitive adult - so reading "Impossible Realities" was like the best sugar high I've ever experienced because there was no crash. Only a sense of anticipation one feels prior to embarking on a journey filled with possibility.

"Impossible Realities" is a compilation of scientific data, anecdotes and the personal experiences of Maureen Caudill, who spent fifteen years researching

I come from a similar academic background (physics and computer science) as the author Maureen Caudill, so I was very excited to see how she would treat the subject of psychic abilities. Well-written, entertaining, as well as rigorously researched, Impossible Realities was a quick but educating read. Included in the book are numerous pages of both non-academic reading recommendations and hundreds of citations from academic sources. But don't let research foundation of this book scare you off. It ...more

I'm of two minds about the way this book is written. While it has plenty to say about scientific investigation of paranormal and supernatural phenomena (both problematic terms implying something outside nature, but let's not get into that), the text itself is heavy on personal anecdotes, humor and cat stories. While this stuff can be engaging, it can also make it difficult to draw serious conclusions.

Maureen Caudill's personal experiences with various phenomena (mostly psychic), which she refers

I picked this book up out of curiosity, and for a light read. I wanted something very different than what I usually read. In that sense it was a perfect book. It was easy to read, and tickled my curiosity. The main objective of this book is to encourage readers with curious minds to not give in to the paradigm of "normal" that is constructed and painted by mainstream science and society in general. The author, according to herself, used to be a skeptic though with an open-mind. She has a ...more

I think she covered many things and didn't go into enough detail on any of them. I wish she had written a separate book on each phenomena. She is informative, easy to understand, and gives TONs of recommended reading and outside sources. I liked that she took apart the scientific process and explained terms like "meta-analysis" and "funnel plot". Read this if you are looking for a solid introduction into psychokinesis, remote viewing, energy healing, telepathy, animal telepathy, precognition, ...more

Even as Science provides us with all the evidence, hard facts, through scientific inquiry and research, some things are often elusive, unable to be proven, and occur in the context of our deep human experience out of shared emotion, empathy, compassion and concern. The author, Maureen Caudill has experienced this herself, is open to the possibilities, and shares her experiences with others to encourage further dialogue.Often these experiences are subjective, and occur just as they are needed, often ...more
