Jeremy has never been one for breaking the rules, then again he has never had anything like Madison to tempt him to break them. With a little persistence and some creativity Madison knows she can get Jeremy to let go of some of that control he holds on to so tightly and take a chance on breaking the rules.

Jeremy is as honorable and controlled as they come. It is what helped to make him a good marine; one that his father can be proud of. His loyalty to his family legacy has driven him to great distances in his life, even at the expense of his own happiness. I couldn’t help but feel sorry for Jeremy because of the way his father seemed to brainwash him into believing he did Jeremy a favor in raising him. At times I felt so passionate about Jeremy’s position that I wish I could reach through the book and shake him so he could realize that he needed to live his life for himself and not for what his best friend and father may think. It is what also made me feel emotionally attached to the storyline and want to read the story to see if Jeremy ever truly found his happiness.

Madison is a girl after my own heart. Yes, she was responsible, caring, helpful and all the things that people want her to be. She also has a fun and exciting side of her that makes her appreciate life in a way that many cannot. It is what also allows her to push for what she wants out of life, and right now what she wants is Jeremy. She just needs to try and help in get out of his own way realize that no matter the odds they can make their relationship work as long as they are willing to fight for it.

Not only were the main characters in this story intriguing, but it featured some interesting supporting characters as well. Tim is a character that really stuck out to me, that I wanted to learn more about. I could tell he had a passion for life I would find refreshing and entertaining. Tim is another character I enjoyed getting to know. Especially when he discovered his best friend was sleeping with his sister. I couldn’t help but smile as I seen the scene play out in front of my eyes.

The relationship development within this story was consistent. At times I wish I could have given it a little bit of nudge because it seemed too steady. That is one of the reasons I found the supporting characters so important, because they really helped to push the story line along in a way that the main characters couldn’t.

I will say that this character driven story piqued my interest enough for me to want to read additional stories in the series, especially if they help the other characters to find love.

I would give this a 3 1/2 star rating with some explanation. I really enjoy the author's writing style and her humor. However, the hero is a dumbass. He has a "code" he's sticking to throughout the story, though he refuses to talk to his fellow soldier and friend to find out if this self imposed rule is even a reality. I have yet to pick up a book by Ms. Murray and not completely fall in love with it. The Officer Breaks the Rules is her latest in the Semper Fi series. I absolutely couldn’t wait for this to release so I could keep up with the characters we met in the first book. Let me just say, it was worth the wait.

I have mentioned before that I’m always drawn to the books with the brother’s best friend and sister getting involved. I’m not sure why that type of forbidden romance intrigues me. It may have something to do with me never having a brother, so I love the protective older brother scenario. This definitely plays to that conflict, but there is so much more keeping Madison and Jeremy apart. This book is beautifully written with layer after layer of emotional trials.

Madison has been lusting after Jeremy since she was 16. Jeremy is very aware of the mutual attraction between them, but he is in no way, shape, or form going to act on it. Not only is she the younger sister of his best friend, she is a Navy Nurse. If there is one thing that has been instilled into him, it is that dual military relationships don’t ever work.

Jeremy is eligible to re-sign with the Marines. He has given them ten honorable years and is ready to be done. His father insists that if you sign up with the Marines, you retire with the Marines. It’s not just something that looks good on a resume. Jeremy has to learn that his happiness is a result of his choices, not the choices his father makes for him and his future. But in doing this, he is torn. He knows his father will lose respect for him and be extremely disappointed in his desire to follow his own path.

Jeremy is an aspiring writer. We get to follow him along the journey as he tries to follow his passion for writing, with his passion for pleasing his father. I thought this was a great addition. His emotions and feelings that are expressed as he tries to hide his work can only be captured from an author’s point of view. Until you have walked the path of having someone read your work and worry if it’s any good, you don’t truly understand the anxiety and uncertainty. Murray did an amazing job capturing real, heartfelt, fear and hesitancy in pursuing his dream. I thought it added a lot to the plot line and gave the story a lot of originality.

Madison is an incredible character. She is relentless in her pursuit of Jeremy, but it’s not in an annoying pushing manner. She knows that he has the same feelings for her; they are just not as close to the surface as hers are. She is understanding, funny, passionate, and extremely loving. When you put these two together and take away all of their conflicts they are absolutely explosive together.

I loved how we got to see so much of the characters we met in book one. And, I can’t wait to see what she has in store for Dwayne and Veronica in book three.

If you are looking for sexy, edgy, gripping series that will keep you invested and turning pages, look no further. You will absolutely love this one.

Do read the first book before trotting along to this one or otherwise you'd be clueless much of the time. I was so eager to find out what came after the kiss for these two. Talk about opposites attracting! I'm beginning to think Jeanette Murray is the queen of making these work.

The story follows along most of the time with Madison and Jeremy's back and forth antics of her trying to break through his barriers to their relationship faster than he can put them up or rebuild the existing ones. Mad is one scheming lady, but she has met her match. She is disheartened at times that she might not persuade the man to give in to his obvious feelings, but she keeps trying.

Jeremy is a Captain in the Marine Corps. He has served ten years with three tours of duty in the sandbox under his belt. He is at the point where its time to re-up his papers or get out. For most, this is a simple thing- sign the papers and get ready for the next duty assignment, but for Jeremy it is a heart-wrenching decision (my heart- okay and maybe his too though he's a tough marine). Jeremy's career in the marines has been his dad's dream for him and not his own dream for himself. He wants to be a writer, but he can't stand the idea of disappointing his dad. Then there's his feelings for Madison. He tries to suppress them for a few reasons- she's Tim's sister and guys keep their hands off their best friends' little sisters and she's got her own Navy career and he has no plans to share his life, have a family, and leave a kid to the lonely miserable existence he had. His reasons for keeping Mad at arms length make perfect sense to him, but he's not doing well at it. He truly wants to be with her even if he can only promise a short time.

I don't want to spoil it, but naturally things do happen to change the status quo and break up the stalemate between the two forcing an ultimatum situation. It is a romance so things are sort of inevitable, but the means of getting there certainly weren't.

I find those plots where there are those back and forth situations of will they or won't they tricky things. The author has to be so deft at keeping the balance between the right amount of frustration build up and too much for my patience. The right amount of irritation with the protagonists and that bit too much that makes me hate them. By half-way through, I had worked out what had to happen to make things work for these two, but I was also aware that things were not in place yet for that to happen. It says how much I enjoy these characters that I was still eager to keep going with the author's chosen pace to find out how she got the characters where they needed to be for them to break out in happy forever kisses and smiles.

The story was Jeremy and Madison's, but it reprised the roles of the fab characters from the first book. Tim and Skye along with Dwayne are big parts along with Skye's mysterious cousin. The pain in the butt Colonel Blacktower is as annoying to Jeremy as he was to Tim. I loved the introduction to Madison's loveable best friend Matthew her fellow nurse at the naval hospital. Matthew totally stole the scene when he was in it.

This story doesn't touch much on the military world background leaving the focus on Jeremy and Madison along with a few side scenes involving the others. The plot for the next book is introduced for Dwayne and the mysterious Veronica and I think Skye is going to announce something to shake up Tim's well-ordered world once again. Looking forward to book three!

All in all, it was a fun, satisfying read between two characters that are scorching hot when Jeremy gives in to Mad's maddening schemes. Recommend to those who love Contemporary military romance.(less)

Jeremy has had a thing for his best friend’s sister for years. They kissed once and he refuses to take things any further, making sure they stay friends and that’s it. Madison’s having none of it and sets out to get her man. She tries everything, being sexy around him, trying to make him jealous with a fake boyfriend (who happens to be her close, gay friend), she finds every excuse she can to be around him and alone with him and he holds strong, for awhile. Jeremy’s dealing with a lot in his life, aside from Madison, he’s also being pressured by his father to re-up with the Marines, staying in another 10 years and then he can retire, just like dad. But Jeremy is not his father and he’s struggling with wanting his dad to be proud of him versus following his true love, which is writing. It’s something he does in secret, but it’s an outlet for him when he’s feeling stressed, which lately is all the time.

I completely enjoyed this story. Madison and Jeremy are so delightful and fun to read about. Madison especially comes alive on page. She’s funny, sarcastic, a little crazy but so much fun she had me laughing throughout the book. Jeremy is a little more serious, he’s dealing with a lot right now, but Madison helps him loosen up and she makes him start to think about what his life might be like if he started making decisions for himself and not his father. They’re a very sexy couple, and they have fun in and out of the bedroom. They’re both weary about their relationship, Jeremy insists that they won’t have anything beyond the fun they’re currently having, so they don’t tell Madison’s brother and Jeremy’s best friend about their relationship. Of course that never goes as planned, feelings start getting deeper and Madison can’t imagine her life with Jeremy. But it’s Jeremy who needs to make some decisions in his life about whether or not he’s ready to take a leap and do what his heart wants for a change.

He wiped a hand down his face and mumbled something under his breath.

“Jeremy Phillips!”

Jesus, it was like his mother came back to life just to give him hell. “I said no. I forgot about it.” Total lie.

“What a lie.”

It’s easy to feel for Jeremy. Here’s this sweet guy who’s loved being a Marine for ten years, but who loves even more when he gets lost in writing out a new chapter for the story he’s working on. He loves being with Madison but worries about being with someone who’s also in the military and what kind of future that would be for a family. He worries about his friendship with Tim, Madison’s brother, and what he’s going to think when he finds out that Jeremy has deep feelings for Madison. He lives in a bare, rundown apartment with hand me down furniture because he doesn’t feel like he’s worthy of anything better. I mean, damn! This guy needs someone vibrant like Madison in his life and she certainly livens things up for him. Jeremy’s a hero that I just wanted to be happy and he gets that chance with Madison.

There’s a little buildup for the third friend, Dwayne, who’s still overseas and his potential heroine, Veronica, the shy cousin of Skye who we first met in The Officer Says “I Do”. Veronica is very quiet about her past, she comes off as having lived a sheltered life and lacking experience with any and everything. She’s flourishing now, she loves having her own room and being roommates with Madison She meets Dwayne during one Skype call. She can’t get this guy out of her head, but she’s so unsure about most things, especially men, it’ll be very interesting (and fun) to see Dwayne’s influence on her life.

Honestly, I wasn’t sure if I was going to read this book; I wasn’t a big fan of book 1 in this series, but I’m so glad I gave Jeremy and Madison a try. I had so fun much reading their story. It’s light hearted and sweet, with great banter between all the characters. I wish there would have been an epilogue, the story feels like it ends just a little too abruptly, but that aside, this is such a fun romance and a story I’d definitely recommend.(less)

Book two brings us Madison and Jeremy's story. I was soooo looking forward to this book, as I loved Madison in The Officer Says I Do, however, upon reading the book I felt a bit let down. Don't get me wrong, the book IS good (and quite sexy), but it was just way too predictable. There really were no surprise elements.

He goes to work and does what's expected, he lives in a dump that he couldn't care less about, but he has two things which get him going...Madison and writing... neither of which fits into his life as a career Marine. So it's not something that he's not so sure he wants to continue anymore.

This book is about Jeremy's journey to accept that it's okay to live his life according to his dreams, not his father's. While I loved the story and the meaning behind it, I did have a little bit of an issue with the fact that this was such a hard decision for Jeremy to make at 33 years old. It just doesn't fit in with the kind of guy I normally like as a hero. I'm all ready for my heroes to be conflicted about love and relationships, but it's a bit harder to swallow when they have those same type of conflicts about the basics of their lives and standing up for what they want out of life. BUT while I didn't necessarily admire that part of the story, it did not take away my enjoyment of the story. I thoroughly LOVED reading this book and watching Jeremy and Madison figure it all out.

I loved how tough Madison is. She's also active-duty in the military as a nurse in the Navy. She's best friends with a gay civilian who works with her, Matthew, and I LOVED their relationship and how he gets all in Jeremy's face about stepping up with his feelings for Madison. She's Tim's younger sister (hero from Book #1 in this series) and Tim and Jeremy are best friends. It makes for a little bit of a sticky situation, but Madison does not back down from what she wants. She's feisty and not afraid to stand up for anything. You can't help but to love her and her attitude.

Then there's Jeremy. Even though he was a wuss about his dad throughout most of the book, my heart broke for him too. He's so torn, but he has such an incredible passion for writing. I only dream of having an all-consuming passion like that and as a writer, I loved reading about his obsessive writing moments. And then there's his passion for Madison. He's obsessed about her and so does not want to be. In his eye, this just isn't something that's acceptable as a friend to Tim.
But. He. Just. Can't. Help. Himself.
*sigh* I liked him and Madison both as individuals, but I loved them together even more.

Overall, I LOVE this group of six friends. I cannot wait to read Veronica and Dwayne's story. What we've seen of them so far has me completely intrigued. I NEED to know what Veronica's story is and the moments Skyping with Dwayne when he's just lonely while deployed broke my heart. I cannot wait!!!

So apparently there is a book before this one & I'm sooo going to have to get it and the one after this?? Yes I NEED that one I can't wait to dive in. Navy Nurse Mad has been in love with Marine Jeremy ever since her brother brought him home from basic training many years ago. I enjoyed the role reversal of the story. And that Madison didn't have to compromise her career, I loved it!! I enjoyed the role reversal of the story. And that Madison didn't have to compromise her career, I loved it!! This story was funny, quirky, immediately draws you in & keeps you hooked in. I really fell into the story because it was so beautifully written. I also loved the wit and conversations between the characters. I really enjoyed Jeremy's journey to accepting what he wanted for himself and not what his Dad wanted for him, he struggled with his desire for Mad because he didn't want to ruin his friendship with his best friend but he so wanted her. Jeremy got real clear when he realized that Madison was willing to move on and the thought of losing her made him get his stuff together real quick.

The growth that takes place between the characters as a couple and for Jeremy as a man was awesome and inspiring to read. I really loved Matthew & can't wait to read his story.

I really loved how well this book captured the love of service that many Navy Nurses feel; I enjoyed reading the military speak especially Whiskey Tango Foxtrot (WTF, incidentally this was used in my favorite show Scandal this season. & this was really perfect because I'm really trying to break my extremely bad habit of cursing up a storm).

I like how the author also confronted the aspect of them getting into trouble with the military for breaking the rules, even though they are in different branches, it's still a big deal. So the title is very appropriate for all the rules he was breaking, his own personal rules, the military rules, his dad's rules, his belief of societies rules. Yeah this is one of my Favorites and I will be getting a physical copy for my shelf. I highly recommend this book.

Jeremy has always been in the marines. His father always wanted him to be one and to continue to be one. Jeremy knew Madison for a lot of years and always thought of her as his sister. Until recently that is. He became more and more attracted to her. He just didn’t do anything about it because he didn’t want to mess up his friendship with her brother or with her. He treasures those things too much.
Jeremy has an issue. His issue is that he wants out of the marines. The thing is that he knows his father will disapprove of it. Because his entire father knows are the marines. He also has a little secret. He has been writing a book. He at first thinks it’s just a hobby to help him unwind. When he finished the book, it finally dawned on him that he could do what he over instead of what is expected of him.
Madison has always loved Jeremy. She just wanted him to be happy, even if it hurt her. She wanted him to finally realize that he needed to make himself happy instead of trying to make everyone else happy.
The whole book was a constant push and pull between Madison and Jeremy. They were always fighting their attraction to each other. And when they didn’t fight it they were fighting to keep it together until they decided to end it. When they did it, they were both miserable.
It took a while for them both to realize what they wanted. Jeremy finally told his father that he was quitting the marines to become a writer. He finally told Madison he was in love with her and didn’t care what her career was.
Loved the book. Fell in love with the characters from the first book in the series and continued to fall in love with them in this book. Cannot wait for the next book in the series. Cannot wait to see how the next couple gets toghether.

I loved how we got to see so much of the characters we met in book one. And, I can’t wait to see what she has in store for Dwayne and Veronica in book three.

This was a highly anticipated read for me. I love Ms. Murray and her books! I had mixed feelings throughout this book. Jeremy was a frustrating character for me, almost hard to like at times. BUT- much further into the story we find out his conflict and why he continuously (kind of) holds himself back from Madison. And God Bless Madison, she knew how deep he could get into his own head and she knew when to let him be.

I was not too sure about this book when I started it but I was quickly hooked. The want between Madison and Jeremy was great. The fact that he keeps fighting it when he really just wanted to give in was very enjoyable. I love the big brother Tim and his reaction on the relationship.
