This is a DNF review.
I'm afraid I didn't care for this one nearly as much as the first book I read from this author. There was a sex scene before the first 50 pages were up which felt way too soon and left me completely unmoved because there were no feelings involved at all, least of all love. The characters had already been together previously in the book prior to this one which I'd read, but it didn't help with my connection to the characters at all, unfortunately. And the hero is a known woma...more

It seems odd to me that in most lists for best Highlander Romances, Mary Wine's books don't even appear. Having read all of Garwood's scottish tales, some Moning, and some Brisbin I took all the Mary Wine books off the shelf at my local library and I'm really glad I did.
I've read two so far and they are both slightly different than the other Highlander novels I've read by other authors. For starters in every single other Highlander book I've read, the couple in question is always, always, always...more

Daphne MacLeod’s and Norris Sutherland’s reactions to each other may not be “sane” or “normal”, but they almost scorch the pages. Nothing is done in halfway measures. The heir to the Earldom of Sutherland and the orphaned, impoverished and disgraced daughter of a laird are not a likely match, but their “seeing-if-they-fit” makes spellbinding reading.

I wanted to love this book. It is everything I desire; a hot Highland hero, a strong outspoken heroine, faithful vassals and a few bad seeds, but it just didn’t happen. I will admit I did enjoy immersing myself in the politics of the 15th Century, the unspoken love of two people that wouldn’t come to fruition, the strict discipline followed by the guards and personal servants to prevent death and injury to those they served. Then it happened, ¾ of the way through the book it all changed, the plo...more
THE TROUBLE WITH HIGHLANDERS by Mary Wine is another exciting historical romance set in 1488 Scotland. Book #5 of the "Highlander" series, but can be read as a stand alone. What a powerful story of passion, danger, romance, Scottish highanders,Scottish clans, and love. Go on a journey with Scottish heiress Daphne MacLeod and Norris Sutherland,a Highlander Laird, as they navigate their feelings, find passion again, fight their enemies, and warm up the cold Scottish nights with passion and love.Ms Wine...more
Daphne Macleod is struggling with keeping her clan together and safe for the winter. Her half-brother and now her Laird has still not returned home and the clan is getting antsy dealing with raids and a neighboring clan wanting to steal her hand for her dowry of course. Her overlord Norris Sutherland heir to one of the largest clans in her area and the man she gifted with her virginity. Norris and Daphne sought each other out due to a mutual attraction and a desire to get out of arranged marriag...more

I love a good Highlander romance. And author Mary Wine always does them justice. This is one very hot & steamy romance story. Who could resist a hunky Highlander in a kilt? Not me!!! And not Daphne.
Daphne MacLeod gave her innocense to Norris Sutherland to prevent clan war. And he has haunted her memories ever since. Norris Sutherland can't forget Daphne or the passionate night they spent tog...more

The blurb is a bit misleading. This is what happens. 3 months ago Daphne had sex with the Earl of Sutherland so she did not have to marry her best friend who was in love with another woman. She is now ruined gods and tries to get her clan back on its feet. They are poor and without a clear leader. And Norris does think about her, as a certain part of him remembers her well. And that is where this story begins.
Daphne is believed to be an heiress, which is silly since she knows she is dirt poor....more

Scottish Romanc/Historical Romance Lovers
Norris Sutherland, heir to the Earldom of Sutherland, has been plagued for months with a dissatisfaction with life. A vibrant male, who has been the envy of the men in his clan and the dream of every clan female, finds himself interested in very little these days. His sex-life has become nonexistent by his own choosing. No matter what or who his aging father, the current Earl, throws in his path nothing seems to warm his blood. Norris is vexed by his own attitude, and knows he is disappointing...more

A SIZZLING Highland Romance!
Mary Wine did an excellent job on this book. I REALLY enjoy it from beginning to end. The story moved with a good pace that kept me interested. Of course I love me a HOT Highlander book and that is exactly what I got here, Scottish brogue and all.

Oh my this was a delicious story. This was more of a story of sexual conquest and high passions bursting forth than it was of an action packed adventure. Mary Wine sure knows how to push the buttons of her characters that's for sure.
Daphne MacLeod is her father's only legitimate heir but that doesn't stop her half brother from coming along to claim his rights as Laird of the MacLeod Clan. Daphne is beautiful, willful, smart as a whip but honest to a fault. Actually is honesty all that bad when y...more

Mary Wine's highlander novels continue to impress with her latest release THE TROUBLE WITH HIGHLANDERS. A sexy romance and a thrilling story make this a must read!
Daphne MacLeon surrendered to Norris Sutherland one night in order to break a marriage contract with another man she didn't love. Weeks later, knowing their association is over, she still can't forget the night she spent in Norris' arms and neither can he. What was supposed to be one fleeting night has complicated matters between them...more
This was a very entertaining read for me that I enjoyed. I'm a big fan of highlander romance so this book definitely satisfied my craving for a good escape into the highlander world. This is the 5th book in the series but I didn't know this until I finished the book and it read great as a stand alone I didn't feel lost at all.

"No one in Scotland can escape from the past. It is everywhere, haunting like a ghost." - Geddes MacGregor
Daphne’s past haunts her as she tries to make a future for her clan. Wine delivers an authentic story of the Highlands: the passion readers association with Highland warriors and the reality of clan living. THE TROUBLE WITH HIGHLANDERS was an engaging read of an era that is often glamorized. Yet Wine weaved a “root for them” romance into the less glamorous aspects of medieval life.

3 1/2 stars!
The book is filled with drama and every possible situation to keep Norris and Daphne apart. I found myself angry, frustrated and happy; quite the emotional roller coaster. For me what I don’t know is if reading the earlier books would have made this one better but I’d definitely want to read the others because Daphne and Norris each have half-brothers that I’d love to know more about.

If you love a good Scottish Highland romance, then you must read this book of Mary Wine. The high drama between Norris and Daphne will take you for a spin on a captivating story of Scottish history full of intrigue and hot scenes. You will feel the trust they share for each other. Such a captivating story! You will understand the love between a father and a son. I would love a story of Gahan in the future.

This by far is my favorite Mary Wine book. She kept it simple the way I like it.
1. Boy meets girl, wants girl, takes girl, keeps girl
2. Has to fight several obstacles to find true love ( In this case his clan doesnt like Daphne, our heroine and someone wants Norris , our hero for herself.)
3. Exciting drama at the end and Happily Ever After
The perfect book!!!
