I received an advance readers copy of this book through Netgalley.

At first I was excited about to start this book because thoughts of Frank Peretti's early books came to mind when I looked at the premise. But, about halfway through this book, I realized that while the concepts were similar the story seemed a lot more personal. The author's note at the end of the book claims that while there is certainly an element of spiritual warfare in book, the story is more about Freedom. I couldn't agree mo...more

WOW! What a ride this book was! I cannot stop talking about it!
Soul's Gate centers around four individuals who are called together for a greater purpose. Reese Roth teaches the other three to embrace the true power of the Holy Spirit. They open their eyes to the realities of the spiritual realm in many way, and they begin to use His power to intercede for each other, replace lies, tear down strongholds, fight the enemy, and find freedom. The imagery of bondage and freedom in this book led me to...more

Usually I balk at the favorite question. What's your favorite song, color, book? Usually my answer is, it depends on my mood. But only one day after finishing it, I'm ready to declare James Rubart's Soul's Gate my favorite novel of all time.

In deciding if I was sure to make this bold declaration, I started mentally scrolling through some of my past favorite novels. Then of my favorites, I narrowed that list down to the truly life-changing ones that I bought multiple copies of and forced my frien...more

There was so much mystery surrounding this book. I couldn't put it down because there was so much that I wanted to know. Even after reading it all my questions weren't answered. Guess I'll have to wait for the next one.... And believe me I can't wait. This was an amazing book.

The whole premise that the fight between good and evil can take place in someone's soul was an idea that I had never thought of. So right from the start of the book I was intrigued as to how a battle could take place insid...more

I really liked this book" Very Much" and realized as I am writing this that it is reminiscent of the earlier work of Frank Peretti, "Piercing the Darkness". If you have read that book and liked it, I think you will enjoy this one. Soul's Gate goes much deeper though, so be prepared. I know not everyone enjoys books on Spiritual Warfare but this also is a people story as well. I felt myself drawn to the characters and their struggles and how they deal with the fact that their eyes are opened to t...more

I really enjoyed this story as it blended references to Scripture while presenting a form of spiritual warfare that enters into the fantastical realm. Even in the author’s notes at the end, he discusses that the idea of going into another person’s soul to battle is a pure act of fiction.
There were several things that struck me in this book that can cause the reader to pause and consider. Primary for consideration is what lies we hold onto and let take root in our spirit which then inhibit our ab...more

This book is a wow book!

Soul's Gate
A Well Spring Novel #1
By James L. Rubart

What if you take the battle for a person's soul to a new level, to go within the soul itself? Would you dare? Reese has done this in the past and is about to train four warriors to do the same - warriors that were prophesied about before tragedy threatened to destroy him nearly 30 years ago.

If Reese can overcome the guilt and regret of the past he will train these spiritual warriors. But before the training can begin they must overcome the barri...more

After experiencing a huge disappointment from reading Paul Young's new book, "CrossRoads"; I picked up James Rubart's new book "Soul's Gate" after reading the summary on the back and wondered if I would be disappointed once again. The premise of each book seemed to be similar.
I have read all of Mr. Rubart's previous novels: "Rooms", "Book of Days" and "The Chair" and loved each one. I appreciate a story well told that is a little outside the box of the usual Christian historical or contemporary...more

Not since Rooms has a Rubart book captivated me the way this one did. From the beginning I began to relate with the characters, especially Dana. She is carrying a lot of baggage from her past and has put up strong walls in an effort to protect herself. I also related well with Brandon, Christian musician going through the motions. I loved Reece as the mentor. His wisdom and wit add so much to the story.

As Jim mentioned in the interview this is a story of freedom and healing, especially of broken...more

Reece Roth has learned how Christians can truly intercede for one another; battle for one another on the most personal level, within one's soul. This knowledge did not come without a cost. Thirty years ago, he paid the ultimate price while teaching others how to enter a soul. Now, thirty years later, God is fulfilling a prophecy by bringing him back to train four new warriors.
Not since Ted Dekker's The Circle series have I been this hooked! James Rubart's new Well Spring series is spiritual war...more

Thirty years ago, Reece Roth was given a prophecy: “there will come a day when you will train them—they will be four. The song, the teacher, the leader, the temple.” That day has now come, and Reece, along with Marcus Amber, Dana Raine, Brandon Scott, and Tamera Miller, are scheduled to go on a retreat together. Before they leave, Reece instructs the four to read the gospels and the book of Acts, and watch a movie - The Matrix.

Once on their retreat, Reese shares with the others some of the thing...more

So I’ll be honest with you and tell you this review will already be a little biased. Every since Mr. Rubart burst onto the Christian Fiction scene with his first book, “Rooms”, I have been hooked. His books have become that proverbial “no brainer” when I see a new one pop up on my local Christian bookstore’s shelf.

Reece Roth is a man of few words, but deep thoughts. Reece has been taught how to enter a person’s soul and fight for their freedom. Unfortunately, this has come at a personal price to...more

***Rubart only gets better and better with each new book..."

One of Seattle’s newest, best-selling authors, James L. Rubart takes readers into a dimension of spiritual warfare few frequent in “Soul’s Gate.” Book one of the mystical Well Spring Novel series that releases today, November 6th. There, Rubart writes spiritual truth with a supernatural twist in an entertaining thriller that pushes the boundaries and “breaks all the molds.”

The provocative narrative begins with Reece Roth, an ordinary m...more

Wow this book is so good I don’t know where to start! Brandon, Marcus and Dana agree to go on a retreat with Reece on a mysterious ranch in Colorado. At this retreat, these four will learn what it really means to follow Christ in a way they never knew before. But can they really do it? And can they live without civilization, no communication with anyone, while at the retreat?

This is my first book by James Rubart, but it for sure will not be the last one! This book is amazing, the characters, th...more

This is Book 1 in James Rubart's new "Well Spring" series, and it poses an interesting question. What if it were possible to help someone battle evil by entering their soul? Could both people work together to save one soul at a time? Each soul is precious and there is a battle. What if??

Reece Roth has been called by God to do something he didn't think he would ever do - train people to enter other's souls to help them fight off evil. Thirty years ago, Reece had done exactly that, but when his li...more

Look at the title again. What do you think this novel will be about? Have you read other novels by this author? For me, this is the first one I have read by this particular author, and I will tell you I was hooked as soon as I opened the book. Here is a storyteller that uses various genres to tell a couple of truths about the Lord, freedom, and warfare in a way that helps visualize the action while reading it. To...more

In SOUL’S GATE, James L. Rubart takes a new look at the nature of spiritual warfare. He looks at Ephesians 6:12, and various incidents that happened in Scripture, and he arrives at some very unique conclusions. Conclusions such as, “There really is a battle going on, that only those with Spiritual sight can see.” And you really can’t defeat an enemy that you cannot see. The le...more

"There will come a day when you will train them - they will be four. The song, the teacher, the leader, the temple. Keep your eyes open to see, your ears open to listen, your heart open to feel, and your mind open to discern.

When the time comes, the Spirit will reveal each of them to you. You will teach them the wonders of my power they can't yet imagine. And instruct these warriors how to go far inside the soul and marrow.

They will rise up and fight for the hearts of others. They will demolis...more

James L. Rubart in his new book, “Soul’s Gate” Book One in the Well Spring series published by Thomas Nelson takes us into the life of Reece Roth.

Can four people change the world? Reece thinks so – more than thinks actually. He believes it with every aspect of his being. And he has received a prophecy that he will be the one to bring them together and teach them how to access their God-given powers. The Singer, the Teacher, and the Leader join him at a retreat appropriately called Well Spring…but even as the Prophecy seems to be fulfilled, many more questions arise. Who is the fourth? Can they truly master their God-given gifts? And how w...more

I was not able to personally review this book. However, a friend, Willie, was willing to share her thoughts on Mr. Rubart’s book, Soul’s Gate.

Sensitively written and therapeutic in the journey, this book opens your mind to the depths of the soul’s journey within your past and then for the Spiritual journey within. You cannot begin one without the other. We cannot heal others without healing one’s self and we can only go to God for that and listen to that still small voice.

Rubart does a good job...more

“A warrior riding, a warrior broken.
Wounds are healed and freedom spoken.
The price of battle, so high a cost.
Dreams are born, and dreams are lost.
Ever onward, no more hiding.
We are four, the Warriors Riding.”

In an epic battle between good and evil in the souls of men, four normal, broken people take God at His word, and live the kind of life described in the Bible. Living like Elijah, Moses, or one of the Apostles. Although each of the characters comes from a crushing past, they are called...more

Jim is an author who comes up with mind-twisting plots and what-ifs. Soul's Gate was no exception. The characters were interesting, but what grabbed me and is staying with me after closing the book is the idea that I want God to use me in a way like He did the characters. Imagine four people who fulfill an old prophecy. They are to come together to bring freedom to those who are in bondage. They have to start with themselves...and that means jumping in to other people's souls -- with permission...more

NOTE: I received the book from Netgalley.

One word: POWERFUL!!!

Technically, Soul's Gate isn't considered a YA book. However, there's absolutely nothing adult in it, except the characters, so it's perfectly safe (and I even recommend it) for teens to read. It was a very very powerful book, that shattered me from the inside out and built me back again. It was INCREDIBLE!

In fact, let me share something with you - there were moments when my skin was crawling with goosebumps while I read. The power of...more

This is a really thought provoking, spirit stirring adventure. The book deals with four people chosen by God to war against the fallen angels that try to control and destroy people's lives. They are being trained by a man who is experienced in spiritual warfare but hides a tragic past that makes him reluctant to return to the fight after so long. All of them need healing from past experiences that bind them from fulfilling God's will in their lives, but none more than the man who is training the...more

This is such a unique book. Can you imagine entering someone's else soul. Reece needs to train spiritual warriors from four "damaged" individuals but they must first overcome so much of their past before the training can proceed. To begin the training the four individuals must accept everything the bible has to offer - all passages! Can they do this? The spiritual warriors must complete their training fully and successfully. This is a book of faith, hope, freedom, healing and growth. Throughout...more

Soul's Gate by James L. Rubart is a fascinating and fresh look at spiritual warfare. Reece Roth was given a prophecy many years ago that he's ready to live out with the help of three others. The first of the Well Spring Novels, Soul's Gate introduces us to Dana, Brandon and Marcus, who are trained in the supernatural aspects of God by Reece. In this first book, the group - which comes to be called the Warriors Riding - examine their beliefs about the truth of the Bible and begin to live by faith...more

This book was amazing! It blew my mind, made me think about things differently, and opened my eyes even more to the real world.

Reece Roth has invited four people to his mountain hideaway to fulfill a prophecy he received years ago. He is going to teach them how to see more of the real, supernatural world around them. They are going to battle for people's souls, from the inside. They are going to let Jesus use them to bring healing and freedom. Reece will have to face his deepest regret if they a...more
