Originally reviewed at Romancing the Dark Side:

A superb sequel that stirs up every emotion possible while reading!

Controlling the Dead wastes no time in getting to the nitty gritty of things picking up right where Taking the Dead left us, with a lot of questions to be answered. Kansas (aka Kan) is trying her best to recover after her horrific attack at the end of book one, but is finding it hard to readjust to life now that’s she back home in the community. She’s become somewhat of a loner (alt

There is something special about the way Annie Walls' mind works. It's so easy to fall into this world she's created. A world with zombies, voodoo, love, hate, murder and raw survival.

The second books in The Famished Trilogy starts off with a trip to the Louisiana Bayou. Really, could you find a more perfect setting for a creepy zombie tale? Nope. Kansas is searching for the only person she knows with an ability to control the putrid walking dead. She hopes to gain information and instead finds

I'm mad at you Annie Walls and I think you know why! Despite me being pissed, I still loved this book. Another job well done!

I could very well give Controlling the Dead five stars. I should actually be giving it five stars. But I can't. Because of the events that took place in this book broke my heart. I can't and won't spoil it for fans who are anxiously awaiting this book.
Controlling the Dead expands, explains, and then cloaks itself back under it's veil. For all the answers that we get, a few more pop up. For all the revelations, more things come to the surface. Who are the good guys? Who are the bad guys? All I ca

I actually rated this book 4.5 stars but when leaving reviews on sites such as Amazon, Goodreads, B&N..I always round up to the next full star.

Reese and Kan have made their way to NOLA in search of some answers. And the only person who can help them is Mago. Once they do find him, the answers they seek are not what they want to hear. This world they live in is messed up and it is only getting worse. And things will only get weirder for Kan. On top of all the crap she has been through this is

I absolutely loved it. Annie Walls you did not disappoint! So much happened in this book, I couldnt put it down. I dont want to say too much to spoil anything.. but you get alot of questions answered.. and then more pop up.
And the descriptions of the famished are awesome. its almost as if you are right there and can see, hear and smell these things.
Kan grew alot on this book and had alot of emotional ups and downs but the whole way I was rooting for her. Overall I looved this book! and am gunna

Amazeballs! Gritty, gorey, unexpected and hot! Loved every second, every word. Cannot wait for Living with the dead!! I need it.

I really like the first one in the series and recommended it to several people. This second book in the series was a huge disappointment, maybe because the first book was so original. Kansas, the main character, was somewhat annoying with her "I'm a bad ass Zombie killing machine who cannot decide between 2 hot guys or take the time to brush my hair". Her dreadlocks were cool in the first book and seemed like a choice, but in this book she makes a reference to her hair matting up when she has ac ...more

Controlling the Dead by Annie Walls, the second book in the Famished trilogy, picks up right where the first book, Taking on the Dead, leaves off. As with the first book, Walls tells this story in first person through the eyes of our heroine, Kansas Moore.

After being violently attacked at the end of the first book, Kansas is dealing with the physical and emotional aftereffects of the attack. Even with everything that has happened, Kansas remains

I shared a recipe with you in honor of this book last week on Monday and today I am sharing my review! I know we are buried in our NaNoWriMo WIP, at least many of us are (including me) but this is a great review for a nice break if you are looking for a wonderful set of stories including the latest published on October 27th. A great group of goo filled bottles of zombified awesomesauce.

Controlling the Dead is the second in the Famished Trilogy and I am thrilled to finally have gotten this in my

I received a copy in exchange for an honest review for my stop on the blog tour at Donnie Darko Girl.

To say that I've been woeful since reaching the end of the first book would be an understatement! I've been looking forward to Controlling the Dead - hoping for Rudy and Kansas to explore a relationship and getting ready to find out some answers along with Kansas to questions raised in the first book. I was anxious to find out about Mago being able to tell there's more to him than meets the eye.

This is the second book of The Famished Trilogy by Annie Walls. I loved the first book, Taking On The Dead, but this new novel is amazing. Controlling The Dead shows how very talented the author truly is. I was spellbound from page one.
Traveling through a world of zombies, Voodoo priest and conspiracy plots is Kansas Moore. She is not your ordinary girl next door. Kan is a crossbow carrying, zombie killing, badass, that is trying to make a better life for the people who have survived. She wants

Controlling the dead picks up right where Taking on the dead left us. You can see that Kan is growing and maturing but in a zombie filled world nothing is easy. Kan will be faced with a lot more struggles and events that will shake her to the core and make her want to go running back to safety underground. Kan will start to question who she can actually trust and who the bad guys really are!

I love love love this series, Annie

Kansas has survived zombies, heartache and so much more but her journey isn't over. She has made new friends and found out many things she didn't know before. She has to learn to let herself heal and find out more answers to the questions she has. This is a long hard road to travel and the zombies may be the least of her worries.

Kansas is one of my absolute favorite characters of all time. She kicks ass and great at surviving. She has more weaker moments I think in this book but she has been thro

4.5 Last year Annie Walls blew me away with her post-apocalyptic zombie tale Taking on the Dead. The first in the Famished Trilogy it earned a top spot on my Adult Top-Ten Reads for 2013. As you can imagine, I was drooling in anticipation of Controlling the Dead. My friends, it was well worth the wait. Walls has created a fascinating world with characters that have become family. We see story advancement and character development as Walls holds are emotions captive. Mini review: engaging, action ...more

oh WOW. Where in the world do I start? People see "zombie" and think....ugh blood, guts, and yuck. Well let me just tell you....Zombie stories are some of the most intense and deeply emotional stories out there!!! and Annie Walls is a ROCK STAR author who writes some of the most amazing character stories and plots!!!

Taking On The Dead was one of my favorite books of last year and I could not wait to get my hands on the sequel. I kept thinking, "How in the world is Annie going to top that? How i

Oh man, I really love this series! Book one was great, and book two just kept getting better.

I really, really want to be giving these books a 5-star rating, because the story has me so hooked I can't put them down. But, I can't quite look past the editing/writing issues that are present. I try to never mark a book down due to typos, editing mistakes, etc., especially if it's an ARC, but this book has other problems too. The writing seems awkward and clunky in spots, and the dialogue doesn't flo

I haven't been able to stop reading The Famished Trilogy since I started the 1st book 2 days ago!! The plot is impeccable, the characters so colorful & well built that you can EASILY picture them & EVERY move they make!! I love the love story that was interwoven into the stories, because it's done in a way that doesn't take away from what's happening in the book, it's like

Controlling the Dead was the second book in the Famished series. I absolutely loved the first book, Taking on the Dead, and while I did thoroughly enjoy this second installment, I do feel like the will they or won't they romance between Kansas and Rudy got really old here. That is really my biggest complaint about Controlling the Dead. I just didn't get it. In the first book with the mystery behind who Julie was, and more specifically who she was to Rudy was what seemed to really hold

I read the first one last May or so and I couldn't remember what all happened. Since this is a trilogy its not recapped like a series book. It ruined the story for me trying to remember what happened and who is who. Now it ends with one heck of a twist. So I will read the next soon to avoid this problem!

I've waited so long for this book and I feel sad. I can't say why because I don't want to give anything away. I will defiantly read the next book. Annie did a fantastic job and the story is well written. Annie definitely delivered a fantastic second book. I can't wait to find out what happens next.

Well can I just say, Brilliant! I can't believe some of the twists and turns throughout this book. kept me on my toes and the ending....... I'm so excited for the next book.

Wow. Wow. I want more. Another great book. I was hooked from the start. So many twists and turns I didn't expect. Fantastic story.

Hits all the right notes, but like the zombies forever craving more flesh, I crave more of this series.

ANNIE!!!!! I NEED THE NEXT BOOK.... I'm frothing at the mouth like a dirty blood zombie for it!

I’ve been waiting and waiting for this book. Kansas is in my top five of kick butt gals and I missed her. I missed her, and Rudy, and yes, even Mac.

But the Kansas I meet in this book is changed. She’s on the verge of losing it. After all she’s been through I don’t know how she keeps moving forward, but she does, albeit unsteadily. She can’t stand to be idle, to have time to think. So any down time she has she spends plinking zombies.

After Kansas and Reese finally reach New Orleans, and finally g

This book had me from page one, it was amazing though out the whole series. The first book caught me just by the cover and the title. I waited and waited for this one to come out. And it was worth the wait.
I loved every part of it. Its like your your right there in Kansas head with her and all the crazyness that goes inside of her head. The emotions are written amazingly, you feel confused with her about her feelings for Rudy. The hate that she holds for others.

You know when you are reading a book, and you are reading it so fast, you have to stop, go back and re-read some details because you are afraid that you missed something? Not that you did it on purpose, but because you are so keen to see what is going to happen! That is how wound up I was by this book… I wanted to know what was going to happen so bad that I was skim-reading some bits because I was so eager and terrified in places that I had to see what was going on. I was so caught up in the sto ...more

Love. I fell in love with this series after reading the first book and carefully followed all news having to do with the 2nd book, Controlling the Dead,in order to read it immediately. I've read alot of books and while I can tell what I believe is a good or bad book, I'm not familiar with the why's and the technical aspects behind it. I don't know how Annie does it, but everything is just so real, so much like watching a movie or experiencing a dream. The characters are so loveable or hateable, ...more
