Notes to Reviewers and Readers:
First, the Blood-Hunter race or Elders have been on Earth for thousands of years. Because of this, they do not use contractions like I'm, don't or can't. They communicate in a more refined way because of their age.

Don’t you just love to hate the bad guys? Lord Cromwell has been an excellent adversary through most of the series. In Ransom we learn more about this fascinating man. The family visit to Disney Land added a light moment in the book, and the author took that time to explain more about Dmitri’s children. I loved the excitement of the battle back in Romania, the development of Lord Cromwell, of who and what he is, his final resolution. This book ends with a bang! After reading Charmeine and falling in love with all the characters, I couldn't wait to read the second one, and Ransom did not disappoint.

Filled with twists and turns that you did not see coming, i was held enthralled from the time i started the novel.

Emily's style of writing is different and I love it! It has a way of making you feel like you are there with them. She describes thing in detail but not in a way where you wish the author would get to the point.

Her powers are growing and no one, including herself, is aware of just how powerful she is. Tabbruis is a Blood-Hunter, he needs blood to survive. While human blood is the best, he has given up human blood (unless it is given voluntarily) and exists on animal blood. Charmeine and Tabbruis are in Romania at Castle Charmeine. They are there with their large family awaiting the birth of their child, nicknamed Baby Hunter. All the family are eagerly awaiting the birth. They aren't idle while they wait, they are continuing to learn self defense and how better to use their unique powers. Athena can see what you are feeling by the light radiating around your body; Hera, like Charmeine can see when you are lying; Neal is an extremely large and powerful blood-hunter and the other members of the family also have extraordinary powers. An attack by evil minions is always a concern, even with all the security measures and guards they have in place.

A group of Temple Guards arrive at the castle unannounced and demand to talk to the Queen of Light and the King of Darkness. They claim the Queen and King need to go to Athens to bring harmony and justice to the Blood-Hunters. It is actually a diversion so that the mysteriously alluring Bathsheba can enter the castle and get to Charmeine. Bathsheba says she is doing her Master's bidding and then threatens Charmeine's unborn child. Charmeine turns the tables on Bathsheba, however before she can get more information, Bathsheba injects herself with something and falls to the floor.

When Tabbruis and Dmitri come face to face with Bathsheba, it is as if time has stood still. Seeing her leaves both men in shock. As Charmeine demands to know who Bathsheba is and how Tabbruis knows her, Tabbruis turns on Charmeine, almost attacking her in his defense of Bathsheba. It is as if Tabbruis no longer sees Charmeine, only Bathsheba.

The action heats up as Charmeine and her family race to get answers to find and stop the Master before the next Blood-Hunter meeting.

Beautifully detailed locations from Romania to London to the shores of the Black Sea. interesting characters that are well fleshed out and who are slowly evolving from the first novel, and new characters that are both interesting and integral to the story are believable and very human but have surprising powers. Add a well paced story and this all makes for a great read. A good mix of angels, blood-hunters (vampires), paranormal, action and romance. It continues the story told in the novel Charmeine, but also can be read as a stand alone novel.

The Light-Bearer Series will continue with the third novel "Conundrum". I am looking forward to the continuation of this series.(less)

Wow, I really was looking forward to this second novel, because I liked the first one big time, and this one didn’t disappoint me. I love the way Emily writes. She describes people in her book in such a way you can see them just the way she pictured it. It makes you wish they are all real and you can just book a trip to castle Charmeine to visit them all.

The first book ended with Charmeine and Tabbruis still happily in love after battling evil. And finding their family and loved ones, living all together in Dmitri’s castle, which is now named after Charmeine. (Please where can I find me a man like that?) But they also learn that they still have to battle evil and Lucifer’s minions on earth. Which they can do as long as they are united as one and hold on to the biggest power possible, Love.

This time, evil comes in the form of Lord Cromwell, a gorgeous but deadly blood-hunter and his evil bitch minion Bathsheba. And this Bathsheba isn’t a stranger for Tabbruis and Dmitri. Turns out they both knew her back in the day when she seduced them both and made them fight over her.

Queen of the light-bearers and head of her loving family Charmeine is pregnant and everyone is looking forward to the newest addition of the family, baby hunter. The castle is being remodeled to fit everyone in. Charmeine and Tabbruis are perfectly happy together, until bloodhunters show up. Turns out to be the guards of the elder council and they want Charmeine to lead them like the prophecy foretold, but they also bring bad news, Lord Cromwell escaped prison and he is also looking for Charmeine.

But the temple guards aren’t the only ones breaking in to the castle. Bathsheba has arrived and boy did she arrive! All the men are struck by her beauty. (Typical, just something for men to do, think with the wrong “head”) Because I don’t want to give away major spoilers, let’s just say things don’t go according to plan.

In the book they also find out the youngest members of the family, Athena and Percival, the children of Dmitri and Hera are also gifted with special abilities. They have foreseen the family in Disneyland! Now that’s an awesome break from all the supernatural angels and vampires. Makes them look more human so you can identify yourself better with them. And also Percival gets to meet his soulmate!

Charmeine also has a personal battle to fight, with Lord Cromwell and her love Tabbruis. She is attracted to Lord Cromwell and a big fight with Tabbruis isn’t helping in her choice. Which one, will she choose? And is Lord Cromwell really evil???

Ok, I’ll stop with the spoilers, needless to say that after a great battle, physical, as well as emotion, for all of them, good wins over evil and little baby hunter (I won’t say the name) is being baptized.

I loved it! The love, the battles, but also the insecurities, the trip to Disneyland, good versus evil. It’s epic and awesome! And it’s so hard for me to review without giving away all the awesome stuff! Ransom is an absolute must-read. I rate it 9 out of 10! Or 4.5 out of 5!

I have to say that I was waiting for this second novel to come out! I knew her first book, Charmeine, was a great read. This one, did not disappoint. The story is very unusual and at each time something predictable was going to happen, it didn't. It has a ton of twists and turns, so it kept me hooked. Now, I guess I should explain that I am not a reader. I mean, I would be watching football any day, but I read the first and it was great. So now, I have read this one and it was just as good. Emily Guido has done it again with this fifth installment from her Light-Bearer series. Her main couple, Charmeine and Tabbruis, are a bit of a modern, sci-fi Romeo and Juliet. These two are so in love that it radiates off of the ever-growing family and yet they seem to have their love tested with each new book. The faith in God, love, unity and acceptance are still the themes in this latest book. Guido has created the most accepting and loving character in Charmeine, along with a cast of opposites that all learn to love and accept one another. Guido’s hints toward what is to come in the next book, will leave readers waiting impatiently.
