I was excited when this book was chosen as the monthly read for one of my book clubs, because I had already purchased it. My TBR pile is ginormous, so this allowed me to bump it to the top. I read it in parts, because I had to get other book reviews done around it. That made me have to backtrack here and there to keep the story straight.

Can I just say holy moly friholy!!! I loved this book!!! It is a fantastical adventure that left me wanting more. This is a modern twist rendition of the classical fairytale. I'm enamored by how well written the story, plot, and ending are. I just love the characters, especially Luke and Sonora. Well that's a lie, I actually won this book, but my review will still be honest.
This is the debut novel by Monika Pardon and was it ever the debut. Before I read th book I didn't really know what it was about, I hadn't read the synopsis, but I was pleasantly surprised. At first, I was thinking yes, it's a modern re- telling of Goldilocks and the three bears but it's so much more! It turns into a very literal fairy tale.

First, let me say that I received this book as a gift in exchange for an honest review. And I honestly liked it. The concept was unique and very interesting. I like that Monika Pardon took a familiar story and explored it and twisted it into something new and original.

Ever wondered what happened to Goldilocks after her run-in with the bears? Then look no further! This is a most exciting and fast paced YA book, loosely based on Goldilocks and the Three Bears, but this book is certainly no fairy tale! I loved it!
The cast of characters are so strong, that it seems like they could walk out of the book and into the room.
Sonora Martin is a feisty blonde haired seventeen year old. Coming face to face with bears is enough to frighten anyone, but Sonora...more

What a great story! I was hooked in the first chapter. Monika Pardon adds a nice twist to an old fairytale. Not only that, but it's not just about Goldilocks and the three bears. It's that and so very much more. This book has the paranormal twist we all crave so much these days.
Sonora, the main character, has had so much upheaval and loss in the last few years that the reader can't help but feel bad for her. And the hits just keep on coming when she's placed with her cold-hearted Aunt Liz after...more

Golden is the story of the berieved, but totally kick-butt Sonora Martin, who finds herself thrust into a world where everything has been turned upside-down and inside-out. As she discovers the secrets of who she really is and what her role is in Sameron's masterplan, she finds out that she's stronger than she ever believed.

I grew up reading the story of Goldilocks and the 3 bears, and when this book came along, I thought "ooh, grown up version, yay!". But this is not your typical fairy tale! There are so many twists and turns, that this book will keep you on your toes the entire way through! I had a hard time putting this book down, and carried my kindle everywhere I went, even if to sneak in a few pages in between tasks. I just *had*...more

This ebook of Golden by Monika Pardon and Melissa Ringsted was given to me for a honest review:
Golden started out really slow for me, but I kept on reading. Authors work really hard putting their talent out there for us to enjoy. Even if I thought the beginning was slow for me, others might find the story very interesting. As I continued to read, I started to understand the point of the beginning chapters. Plus my favorite part was the shape-shifters. They're bears instead of wolves, now don't g...more

Golden is Monika Pardon's debut YA novel and all I can say is WOW! I am giving this book five stars, but really it deserves more. Come to think of it, I don't think all the stars in the sky would be enough either. This book was seriously that good.

Golden started out as a fractured fairy loosely based on Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Quickly it morphed into so much more.
Synopsis...
Sonora has lost her parents and now her grandmother. She is forced to live with her Aunt Liz and cousin, Ramona, which obviously do not want her.
Lucky for Sonora her aunt is dating Luke. Luke is the rock that Sonora can lean on. He becomes her confidant and guide as Sonora is dropped into a supernatural world she didn't know existed. Of course, Goldilocks/ Son...more

I was excited to begin this book because I haven't read a retelling of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. This book took a little while to get going. Once it did though it was a very interesting read. The two worlds between magics and humans have been split. There is an ongoing feud between the magics over the split of the two world. Little does Sonora know she is about to be in the middle of the battle. Sonora has been through a lot of tragedy in her young life. She is only 17 years old, and has h...more

While this story had a creative twist to the fairytale of Goldilocks, I had a hard time following it. The first several chapters didn't really have a time frame, which distracted me from what exposition was offered. The characters took too long to develop too, which made me come up with my own characterizations that were probably a lot less favorable than the author intended. Whereas other reviewers found the book engaging after the half-way point, I couldn't get over the poor beginning. I proba...more

When I first chose to read Golden I thought that it would be a twisted version of the original Goldilocks and the Three Bears but it is more than that. This is a story that takes the original fairy tale and brings it into the 21st century. A paranormal fairy tale.

Suspenseful! Intriguing, and dramatic!
Sonora is not your typical moody teenager, as she has been through much more than she should have to at her young age. Yet through her trials, her personality is very real, and genuine and we feel her pain, and her fear, as well as her joys as we discover and travel the strange path she has taken in the last few months after the death of her grandmother. Through a series of aweful events Sonora learns that the realm she lives in, isn't the only one that exists and that she is a target. I loved the new outlook on the Goldilocks story. The author did a great job keeping my attention throughout the whole book. You will meet characters that you will fall in love with and some you will just hate. You wll discover different turns and twists through the story and and when you get to the end you will wish you had the second one already. It was awesome. I recommend this book to everyone. I grew up, the youngest of six children, in southern Maine. As a child, I constantly made up stories that entertained my family. As I grew up, I never grew out of my imagination or my fondness for story-telling. Even in school, I wrote a lot of stories, but I never had the nerve to show anyone. I eventually went on to college and graduated from the University of Michigan in 2006. Today I'm back in...more
