I typically don't read "chick lit." I've never even read a Princess Diaries book. But, Calonita might visit my middle school in March, so I had to check out Secrets of My Hollywood Life. I chose the third book in the series (because that's the only one I had) and was pleasantly surprised. I think this will be a good fit for my Clique readers that are looking for another series. The storyline is tame enough and the main protagonist too much of a good girl to slump the series in the same category...more

Review

Kaitlin is back in this third book of the Secrets of My Hollywood Life series. Also back, is mean-girl Skye. What’s different is that there’s a new rival on the set. Her name is Alexis, and she’s not going to back down quietly.

Cue the drama! Not only do the girls get into it behind the scenes, but on set too. Backstabbing, a cat fight, secrets revealed – it was a complete mess for these three. Seriously, there were times when I just wanted to slap some sense into them so they would just g...more

I chose the book,"Family Affairs(Secrets of My Hollywood Life#3) by Jen Calonita, because I had already read the first and second book in this series, and I decided to read the third book too. This story revolves around Kaitlin Burke, a young Hollywood sensation. She's been on the show, Family Affairs ever since she was born with her co-star Sky Mackenzie. Everything is going well in Kaitlin's life until a girl named Alexis Holden comes on their show. Alexis may seem like the sweetest girl on th...more

I think this series is curing me of my sometimes overboard-interest in the entertainment business (hello, People magazine and Access Hollywood-- I'm talking to you), because I had a lightbulb moment about halfway through speedreading this book:

Everything about this industry is manufactured.

In an abstract sort of way, I already knew this. But watching this fairly predictable story play out, it occurred to me how Hollywood stars, famous people, celebrities, whatever you call them, are not to be en...more

I have now caught up with this series. I really shouldn't read series out-of-order, but in this case it didn't threw off the entire read for me. In Family Affairs, Kaitlin and Sky have returned to the set of their hit television show to face a...more

Yes! Book Number three in this series! More Kaitlin, more drama. Oh boy, drama. There is chock full of drama in here. From Alexis. Alexis is the new girl on set and she keeps charming all of the writings into thinking she's so amazing. Her episode is stretch from let's say 1/4 of the season, to half! Everyone thinks Alexis is an angel, and so magical. But when everyone's gone, she's rude and horrible! She stops scenes, causing extra money for Tom, the film producer. Then she blames all of it on...more

Buku ketiga ini bacanya agak lamaan berhubung terganggu sama kegiatan macem-macem. Tapi sumpah, setiap baca langsung superexcited!

I loved Family Affairs by Jen Calonita because there was lots of drama that gets really tangled up, but it untangles all at the very last minute. This book reminds me of Mean Girls because Alexis is being mean to Kaitlin and Sky while being nice to others. I like how Kaitlin and Sky team up to try to take down Alexis. I like how Kaitlin and Sky start to become friends and how they start to share some secrets. I like how Alexis tries to take over by being "nice" to take over Family Affairs when s...more

Another cute read. I liked how this one extended a bit more beyond Hollywood and introduced a new scheming character.

I'm curious as to how the series will shift now.

Still love Austin to pieces. I must say, I'm also glad the author made him a character that is genuinely cute and sweet. He's not dark, twisted and broody (which seems to be the popular thing these days) nor is he an arrogant scene-stealer eager to be in the lights. You just like him since he's so adorable.

I love that she channeled L...more

This story is a lot more better than the 1st & 2nd parts. It's fun, interesting, exciting, touchy & sad. The best part started when they've walked-out on their set. I thought Sky had a diabolical plan to eliminate Alexis, but I'm surprise she just want to sing. hahaha
I love it when Sky's crying & being nice to Kaitlin. Sky's not that bad, she's just sad living in the shadows of Kaitlin.
Alexis is a lunatic! She's the worse character here.
I am teary when I got to the part that they dec...more

The stuff that happens between Kaitlin, Sky, and Alexis reminds me of the problems on that little show called 7th Heaven when one character wanted out and did whatever she could to get out of her contract and the writers made up stupid, annoying stories to get rid of her for most of the series..I personally wouldn't have wasted time coming up with a scheme, I would have carried around a tape recorder and caught the devious character that way. Questioning love and what it means to say it to someo...more

This book is terrifically awful. Monumentally terrible. It's so bad I can barely stand to write a review of it. This is book three of the Kaitlin Burke series, and I am astonished to know there are two more after this with a sixth in the works. I just... how does this happen? The writing is poor, the story is bland and predictable, the characters are caricatures. And the outfit descriptions. WHY does Jen Calonita feel the need to illustrate each character's outfit in detail in each scene? This k...more

This book was really good. I wnjoyed seeing her go to a school in the first one, film a movie in the secn one, and now we get to see her on her show! I find this book a bit boring in the beginning, but as the story goes on, I really gt into it! I must say wathcing Skye and Kaitlin join forces was new, different, unexpected and I loved ever minute of it! Alexis was so terribly annoying, and I wanted her to go down like Charlie Brown! This book had me guessing, and probably one of my favorite book...more

“Being a celebrity princess…isn’t always a fairytale.”

Secret of my Hollywood life: Family Affair is the third book in this series. And I believe this is a must- read book. It’s the best one out of the two I just read! The Hutch Adam’s project just ended, Kailtin and Sky are going back to the set in Family Affair. But is that it? Is it going to be fighting all over again, like in the first book?!

Well, there's going to be some cat fight going on, but not between Kailtin and Sky. The new girl Alex...more

FAMILY AFFAIRS follows teen superstar, Kaitlin Burke, as she wraps up her new movie, Pretty Young Assassins, and returns to shooting Family Affairs, the hit TV show she's starred on since she was a little girl.

But all is not well on the set.

The new girl, Alexis, proves to be a plotting new actress. She was supposed to be on the show for only a few episodes but, with her magic ways, ends up convincing everyone to let her stay. Everyone, that is, except fo...more

Kaitlin is back! She’s just finished her big movie with her career and her boyfriend still intact! Now she’s off to what she does best. Staring in the nighttime soap, Family Affair. Everything is going great! That is until newcomer Alexis starts stealing some of Kaitlin’s limelight. Is Kaitlin simply jealous or are there more forces at work

Like its two predecessors, Secrets of My Hollywood Life: Family Affairs, was a fun and fast read. These books are impeccably clean, so I wouldn’t be cautious...more

I thought this was a wonderful quick, fluffy read. I REALLY liked the character of Alexis. Well, not like her as a person, obviously, but I liked how she messed everything up on "Family Affair". I really liked getting to know Skye better, not as an antagonist, but as an innocent main character. Who would have thought we'd see the day when Skye turned good?!? Granted, it was to help her career but still. I can't WAIT to read the next book in the series!

This book made me anxious to read the fourth book in the series, due to be released this Spring. Kaitlyn winds up with a new, even more evil enemy, and learns to see the world differently. She grows up a lot in this book, in a variety of ways. Anyone who is already hooked on this series will appreciate that this book does not disappoint. It's even better than the original!

I really enjoyed reading Family Affairs the 3rd book in the SOMHL series. In this book Kaitlin now has to deal with both Sky and Alexis. Alexis is the new character on Family Affairs who is somewhat evil. In the book suprising teams are formed, and people try new things. I normally don't LOVE books like this but I am really enjoying this series, I think it's because of the unique story line and plot. I also really like the sidekick conversations and hollywood secrets. I think that if you like ch...more

What I loved about this book is how Sky and Kaitlin become almost friends. This book really turned Sky into a good character, even if the author keeps mentioning how "some things would never change". Sky really showed character development.
I actually don't mind that Alexis got another acting chance in the end, because even though Kaitlin implied that it would never work out for her, it wasn't a cheesey ending!

What's great about this series, is that there is never a cliffhanger, and yet you're d...more

out of the whole series, this is my favorite. it is the longest book i thought, but it is worth reading, living in california and the book taking place in it, made it more fun. I knew all the places that the book took place in. love the main character and love placing myself in her shoes, and must must read.

So far in the book, nothing has happened of interest yet, but I'm only on page 37 so it could get better. wow. 0.0 This book has gotten so much better and interesting!!! Alexi is a real b**** and I'm glad she has finally been found out. Although Max was a real surprise, I'm glad they are both getting fired. I'm so sad though that its the last season of FA. What is K and Sky going to do now? YAY! This book was so ah-mazing, eventhough, it was slow in the beginning.

I really love all the Secrets of my Hollywood Life Books I have read so far! It's fun reading about the life of a famous, young Hollywood actress. There's a lot of drama that goes on behind the scenes that had me interested. The only part that bores me is her love life with her perfect boyfriend. Honestly, I wish the character did not have a boyfriend. Some things with Austin are a little cheesy and I'd rather the book get on with the real drama, not continuously read about her and her perfect b...more

This is the kind of book to read when you're bored and need an easy read. This book is about the life of a girl who is on a popular TV show and it takes you inside the world of Hollywood. It's another interesting book in the way that it gives you a completely different perspective of fame.

A new girl call Alexis just came to the acting business. Most of the people adores her. But what is she really trying to do? Kaitlin is starting to find out what Alexis is up to. She and Sky,her enemy, teams up to take Alexis down. But will anyone believe them or America new sweetheart, Alexis.
I feel bad for Kaitlin. Her parent doesn't understand her. Her brother has a major crush on Alexis. Her friends get to do stuff that she can't. Like learn to drive a car, taking the SATs and going off t...more

It surprises me how much I enjoy these books.

They're so well written (i.e.- good plot, characters, writing) and so FUN. I haven't read books that are just meant to be fluff and fun for a long time and so it's actually kind of nice. I enjoyed this third installment more than the second one for sure. They're very quick light reads that you can finish in little more than a sitting, which is bad when that sitting happens to be late at night! I'm very excited for the next one. I know this is a poor...more

I picked this up at a thrift store unaware it is a teen lit book. I read it because I'll try anything once. It actually isn't badly written, sure its predictable and over the top but it isn't painful.

It's a decent book for a pop culture crazy teen

Interesting and very entertaining. I can't put it down and I keep reading even after 12 in the morning. I hope I can collect all the books in this series and Jen Calonita will write more books. :)

This book was was awesome! I found myself loving this book and hanging on the edge of my seat for when Sky and Kaitlin encounter Alexa. The antagonist in this book was amazing and I loved all of the conflict and scheming on this book.

Hi Goodreads!
I'm Jen Calonita, a YA author who loves what I do because it lets me connect with all of you (and no, I wasn't intending for that to rhyme!).

I've been writing ever since I can remember, but it was fourth grade when I put my "three wishes" for a genie down on paper. They were:
#1. Buy all the Cabbage Patch Kids in the world and give them away for free (because apparently that was how I...more
