It isn't easy moving about Society dressed like a dandy-especially when one is a ruthless spy. But that's precisely the latest mission for Liar's Club agent Dalton Montmorecy. Dalton is posing as Sir Thorogood, the elusive cartoonist whose scathing political caricatures have all of London abuzz. The true identity of Sir Thorogood is a mystery, and Dalton hopes that imperso ...more

Really more like 3.5. Definitely can't go 4 stars on this one. I really enjoyed the first in the series.

I don't know what it was but the whole time reading this I just couldn't get what was going on. I found myself saying "huh?" and "wait.."

One scene in particular finds the H/h at an inn and they're kinda quiet like and then BAM!! some dude comes flying through the window and lands right where he wants to! It was ninja type stealth but not. I was like "what the…." Then I started looking at my wi

For the first time in ages I didn't skip the sex scenes in a romance because these were well-written and organic to the story. There was real relationship building through them and they weren't just thrown in out of some misguided idea that over-the-top mindblowing sex is the virgin's stock in trade. It helped that the heroine isn't a virgin. But it helped more that there were thoughts about feelings and situations informing the scenes. Very much enjoyed this and hope the following books in the ...more

Kitabı kapatıp kaldırdığım zaman aklım kitapta kalıyordu fakat elime aldığım zamanda okumasam mı acaba yaaa diye kitaplığa geri kaldırma duygumu bastırmay ...more

This is the 2nd in the Liar's Club series, of which I loved the first book, The Pretender.

This one wasn't quite as good, mostly because I recognized several of the plot devices from the first one so it didn't seem as new and fresh to me. Book 2 picks up with Dalton Montmorency who is now the Spymaster of the Liar's Club. He is unsure of his place with them and takes on the assigment of becoming Sir Thorogood, the pseudonym of the cartoonist that has exposed many an important man in London. One t

The books in the Liar's Club series are enjoyable reads with humor and light intrigue. They have strong heroes who are intelligent and patriotic, and strong heroines who are intelligent and resourceful, but the men seem to bungle their jobs until the women set them on the right track. There are some really great secondary characters, such as Feebles the pickpocket, Button the very sartorial valet, and Robbie the chimneysweep. The books had only a few 'suspend-disbelief' moments, (such as when th ...more

I'm not usually a huge fan of spies in historical romance because they feel so overdone at times. But, Bradley's Liars Club series is definitely an exception to that rule especially The Impostor. The mission that Dalton (the hero) has to accomplish reminds me of The Scarlet Pimpernel (one of my favorites!). And I'm always sold on a book that has a heroine with a secret life like Clara does. Both Dalton and Clara are so well-written and their banter was extremely entertaining. I also lov

Couldn't get past the first appearance of the hero. He's a Lord something or other, i.e. a member of high society and listed in Debrett's Peerage. But he dresses up in clownish clothes as a disguise and arrives at a society ball in London, gets announced under a false name, and he (or the author) thinks no one will recognize him? Just preposterous. Evidently the author has never thought through the implications of being a part of high society, although it is not that hard - think of celebrities ...more

I really enjoyed this book but it also made me realize that there is another series before the 'Worthington' so yeah wow.
I loved this book, there was a lot going on and there was not a single dull moment.
the one flaw I guess is that I would be reading and really enjoying myself then all of a sudden something happens that makes absolutely no sense and I have to read it again it even made doubt if my print was off. for example; why did she refuse his proposal, why were they making out in the c

But everything changed for her when she meets at a party ... Sir Thorogood in flesh and bone !!! Furious and a little intrigued, Clara decides to make everything to confound the impostor ...

Sir Thorogood has the London society in an uproar. With his cartoons he's apparently ruffled a feather too many. The Prime Minister, Lord Liverpool, entrusts the new "leader" of the Liar's Club, Dalton Montmorency, Lord Etheridge, to find the scoundrel and bring his drawing days to a halt.

Desperate to gain the respect of the Liars after Simon Raines' retirement, Dalton takes on the task by himself. Posing as Thorogood, a dandified fop, he has all intentions of exposing the real cartoonist and br

I was excited to read Dalton's story but I was a bit disappointed. I expected more to happen in the book especially when compared to the first in the series. I just thought it was boring. Clara was just a boring heroine, I pictured Dalton with someone a bit more outgoing. I tried to get over her being a widow but I'm still not a fan of those kinds of stories. As far as Dalton, I liked him as a hero. I liked that he took on a mission himself, albeit one of the most pointless ones a spy could be s ...more

It is frankly unbelievable that any publisher should have had a hand in publishing this book. Isn't proofreading done any more? The atrocious spelling and grammatical errors detract from any enjoyment one could have taken from an otherwise promising intrigue.

Not quite as entertaining as the first one, pretty good, nonetheless. There were a few points - the cat goes from being skinny to having two kittens in a couple of weeks. I scratched my head about that one. And the H/h crammed into a sideboard and making out. How did they have enough room to do anything? Plus, there was a meeting of interest going on at the time, yet they were so distracted they apparently didn't listen in. I kept reading, hoping for some revelation but nope; too busy groping ea ...more

Lots of fun! I like the trope when a woman is secretly a writer or artist, and this had that plus other fun secret identities. A bit far-fetched, perhaps, but silly fun!

Honestly, the plot was so boring I don't even remember what it was about. I ended up skimming just to see the ending, which I had already predicted. I was also really lost through most of the beginning, could be because I didn't read the first book in the series, but either way I found myself going back a few pages to see if I missed something.

What really annoys me is I got this one and the next one from the used book store, and I have no desire to read the third book. Bummer. Money wasted. Oh w

Nice, light and enjoyable, but not nearly as witty nor as humorous as the first one. And the ending was not what this book deserved; it was a bit frustrating. Still, I'm thoroughly enjoying Bradley's writing and can't wait to read the next books, even though right now I think I'll make a leap to To Wed a Scandalous Spy, since the hero there has captured my interest more than anyone else.

Celeste Bradley is the author of Fallen, which was nominated for a RITA in 2002, and The Pretender, the first book in the Liars series. According to Bradley, the best thing about writing is that she finally gets to use the brain full of trivia she's collected over a lifetime of living in eight states, residing in over twenty homes, and changing her major five times.
