Bartleby's back! About damn time. Missed that lil guy.

Review originally posted here.

Why I Read It: Next in a series. Only two more to go before I'm finished!!

Seriously though, I've been saying in every review since volume 3 "this series just keeps getting darker and darker" (because it has!) but this volume takes the cake. Someone (semi)important DIES for crying out loud. It's mostly "off-screen", but still. Grim.

I liked this volume, but it felt like a lot of build-u
The Bone series is written and illustrated by Jeff Smith. Bone: Ghost Circles is the 7th graphic novel out of 9 graphic novel series. Ghost circles begins with Jonathan severely injured lying in a cave. Here you learn that Lucius was in the arms of the Hooded One and also that the regiment was ambushed by the Rat army. Lucius since then has been deemed a traitor, however no one knows where he is. Fone Bone, Phoney Bone, Smiley Bone, Grandma Ben, and Thorn now must embark on an epic adventure to ...more

It started out with the Rat Creatures attacking the people and beating them in the battle. Bone and his brothers with Thorn and her Grandmother are on their way to Atheia. Through their journey they have to avoid ghost circles which are the dangerous holes which you don't know whether you are in a fake world or reality. The hooded one is back and tries to attack thorn but they get past her. We are left with a little mystery when they do get very close to the city of Atheia but many troubl

Fone Bone, Phoney Bone and Smiley Bone have left Boneville. A volcano has erupted and there’s a war going on; they are traveling with Gran’ma Ben and Thorn, trying to get Thorn to safety in Athenia. Pursued by evil rat creatures and by Gran’ma Ben’s sister Briar, the Bones and their party must cross the land of the dreaded Ghost Circles, small dimensional gateways to other places. If they aren’t careful, they won’t make it to Athenia…

And a massive magical wave is spreading ghost circles across the valley. Anyone who wanders into a ghost circle will get trapped in an alternate reality. Thorn can see where they are and she leads the Bones and Gran'ma Ben on a perilous trip to across the valley to Atheia, the old royal city, for help. In the Bone series Ghost Circles in the 7th graphic novel. In all there are about 9. Ghost circles was a great enjoyable book with about 150 pages. In the beginning of the book one character named Jonathan was extremely injured and laying inside a cave. Just as good as the others. it’s amazing how consistent the writing and the art are. Thorn is amazing and of course Fone bone is completely loveable. I do miss the Dragon who hasn’t been in this volume much. I really can’t come up with much else to say other than what I’ve said in the previous reviews. If you haven’t read the series of graphic novels, you have no idea what you are missing.

This is the seventh book in the Bone series by Jeff Smith. We all read it independently and I'm so glad that our girls like the story.

The overall story for the series is fun, exciting, and full of drama and intrigue. This book was a bit slow and almost depressing, as the outcome of the war is still uncertain, and the evil forces have gained a stronger hold. Still, we see a glimmer of hope on the horizon and we are looking forward to an exciting conclusion. We are all hooked!

2015 reread? I started to doubt if I actually ever finished this series way back in the day, but I do remember a piece of Vols 8 & 9, so I guess I did? Hmm. Anywho.

Life as we know it has ended, so many are dead, and you cease to exist if you touch the invisible circles that cover the valley. Let's take a walk.
I may have liked the story more if I had begun with volume 1. My daughter made me read this, saying it was really good, but she's read them all. As I reached the end, she informed me they all end with "to be continued..." Great. I do like the Bone characters, the graphics are good, and I can see where the story line could be addictive for middle and high school students. There is some adult innuendo, but nothing students who don't already know about adult situations would pay very much attention ...more
Ghost Circles was about Phonicle Bone, Fone Bone, Smiley Bone, Gran'ma Ben, and Thorn, who are traveling to Atheia, an old city of the royal family, so that Thorn will be safe. On their dangerous journey, with the rat creatures chasing after them and the hooded one trying to find them and kill them, they also have to watch out for ghost circles, which are holes in the ground that you can slip through, where reality meets the supernatural. Meanwhile, back at old man's cave, there is also tons of ...more

This was a exciting book, and I couldn't wait to read it because everyone was talking about it. In the best words I could describe of these books, before I read them kind of seemed childish, but oh no buck oh this was a darn good book. I wish in more books with pictures in them, because it brings the pictures alive for you and see the setting. This book was almost like a comic book but it tells a story not scenes. My favorite part of the book was when they get that rat looking thing and start usi ...more

I have just gotten done with this amazing book. One of my favorite parts of the book was when Phoney bone was just about to be executed because they thought that he was the Veni-Yen-Cari . Which he wasn’t because he was saved by Rose just in time. Then they had a big battle and something happened to the hooded one which I will not say. Another was when the villagers started choking Phoney and they thought that he was the one that was the traitor and that it was his fault that the rat creatures w ...more

This book talks about Fone Bone and the team escaping from the evil rat creatures and Briar (who is actually the hooded one). Soon they'd be able to get to the city of Atheia where they would be safe from the evil people. But they have to take a dangerous path and go through the ghost circles. So they take it anyway...AND BE CHASED BY THE RAT CREATURES AGAIN!!! But with the help of their old rat creature friend Bartleby, they were able to escape the rat creatures, but not the ghost circles yet. ...more

Ghost Circles, by Jeff Smith, was a good book to read. What caught my attention from the begining was how the cover looked and i skimed through it and it had images and i like when a book has images because I can kind of see whats happening. Also, as soon as i started reading it had action since there was a war going on and i wanted to know why there was war going on because there is always a cause for a war to start. So i wanted to

This is the seventh book in the nine book Bone series by Jeff Smith. This book really takes the story into high gear and is very dark. It was an absolutely wonderful read!

This book was amazing with the characters and setting.(If you haven't read the book I advice you to stop reading it contains spoiler.) This book takes place of two side of the stories but the same problem. One takes place in something like a spell and it can put you through a nightmare. The other side is in a village that might be destroyed by a great power. The characters are Fone Bone,Thorn,Gran'ma Ben,Tinsmith,Phoeny Bone, The Headmaster,Lucius, and Smiley Bone.

A volcano destroyed the valley and it unleashed some of the Lord of the Locusts power. Now Fone Bone, Gran'ma, Thorn and the others are heading for the city of Atheia, where they will be safe.

Another great volume. The Veni Yan warriors finally revealed their faces and I was surprised they looked so. . . Normal, especially after seeing what the hooded one looked like. I also think it is cute how Fone Bone refers to Thorn in one part. I won't reveal what he said, but it was cute and definitely sho

I love the bone series!
I don't know what else to say.
That characters grow on me and the art work is absolutely gorgeous, to die for. While reading this series I find myself on a journey. I can reread the whole series over and over. I love it so much.

I find myself always going back to them whenever I want a good graphic novel to read.
The first time I'd heard about the Bone cousins was in the back pages of Dave Sim's Cerebus. There was a short preview and it immediately drew me in. The art was simple yet clean, it reminded me alot of Walt Kelley's Pogo, and the story content actually got a chuckle.
At that time, Bone was just starting out and had maybe 4 issues of the regular comic printed out on the market. I chased them down and read them in a single sitting... I was hooked!

I'm very unclear how much Thorn has changed, and how, with the occasional creepy looks she gets. The artwork, characters, and plotting all continue to be top notch. About the only reason I'm not giving this five stars is because there's so much that seems portentous but I can't tell whether it actually means anything (as with Thorn)
