The Accidental Vampire (Argeneau #7)
by
Lynsay Sands
Ever since an accident turned her into a knockout vamp, Elvi Black's been catching her z's in a coffin, staying out of the sun, and giving up garlic. She knows there's more to being undead than what she saw in Dracula, but she can't very well ask her mortal friends about proper biting etiquette. But when her neighbors placed a personal ad for her in the local paper, she ne...more

Opening Line:" It was a high-pitched scream that woke Elvi."
THE ACCIDENTAL VAMPIRE is an amusing story with great characters. It also gives a slightly different take on the standard Vampire Romance, wherein the main characters are all in their 60's and the Vampires are decendents of Atlantis. This is also not a series that you need to read in order, which is great. It's nice to just pick up a book and not need a huge ammount of back story to know what's going on.

Oh boy, oh boy. My first real paranormal romance -- not YA, not vampire hunting with a side of relationship, but an honest-to-goodness real-live romance novel. I read it on the way to Chicago.
Ah, the eternal question: where the [insert expletive of choice:] are the editors?
I spend a lot of time wondering this. I see movies like, for example, The Da Vinci Code, and am astonished that apparently, in every single stage of production, everyone involved failed to notice -- and rem...more

What a fun story. It had me laughing and chuckling several times. The people of Port Henry were totally unexpected in the way they took care of Elvi. I was never quite sure what Victor's 3 rivals, Edward, Alessandro and Harper were up to and the side story about DJ and Mabel was a pleasant addition.
Was okay, funny but not really what I expected but it was a good read. Funny how Elvi just watches the movie and believes that is what she is supposed to do to be a vampire. But the Birthday Bite was the best to me.
The book was gorgeous.
I chose it due to the blurb on the back, and I didn't regret it one second. It is as funny and unusual a vampire romance as I thought it would be. It had all the "usual stuff" with lifemates, the gorgeous looking vampires and so on, but the story in itself turned out to be surprising and inventive.

I adore the "paranormal romance" genre quite a bit. Just take a look at my goodreads bookshelves and you will see that I have somewhat of an addiction. I jumped at the chance to read this NYT BSL book when I saw it on the list in January. I was quite surprised to find that I actually own another book in the series. According the family tree printed in the front I had already read about Vincent some months ago and didn't realize I had picked up a book from the Argeneau Series.

When you read this series, you know exactly what you're going to get -romance novels wrapped in the Snuggie that is the paranormal world of vampires (oops, make that immortals).
In other words: a lighthearted, sexy, funny romp that serves to entertain the reader; allowing them to be taken away better than any Calgon bath could ever do.
If you're looking to escape, this is as good a series as you're gonna find.

I'm really excited that Lynsay Sands is putting out three Argeneau stories in a row like this. I've been a fan of this series since I picked up "Single White Vampire" in 2003.
I enjoyed this book quite a bit. There was the occasional clunky phrase or wrong homonym usage that made me roll my eyes (what is the deal lately with editors/copyeditors not understanding that "slamming on the breaks" is NOT correct? This is the second time I've seen it used this way in a...more

It's No Accident, It's Skill! Sand's Delivers An Imaginative & Sexy Vamp Romance!
Five years ago sixty-something Elvi, on a what was supposed to be a sun and fun filled vacation in Mexico, suddenly found herself turned into a vampire. With no maker hanging around to show her the immortal ropes Elvi turned to the movie, Bram Stoker's Dracula, to learn how to be a successful creature of the night. I have enjoyed all of the Lynsay's Sands books they are fast paced, humorous, enjoyable, and a fun read. If you are looking for vampiric angst, dark fantasy or shocking horror you won’t find it here but this light-hearted romance. The Argeneau vampires are not traditional vampires, they call themselves Immortals and the only traits that they share with vampires are longevity, strength, mind control abilities and a hunger for blood. They are not undead, they can go out in the day, eat garlic, hav...more
This was a really quick read, I read it over 2 days. that's because there wasn't much substance. I guess it's part of a series, which I've never read the previous ones, but I don't imagine I was missing anything. A 60 something year old woman was accidentally turned into a vampire, and her whole town and friends are very accepting of her. She becomes 25 again, and even hotter than she was originally (all vampires = hot i guess). She lives for 5 yrs without really finding out what a vampire is. ...more
New to the world of the night, THE ACCIDENTAL VAMPIRE Elvi Black struggles to adjust. She mourns her inability to get a tan, eat food especially pizza, and sleep in a bed as coffins are not particularly conducive to anything but the sleep of the dead. Her friends are worried about her adjustment so though she tried to hide her change, they know and try to hook her up with a male vampire though where to find one seems difficult as the matchmaking services don't mention anyone with a bite. Her nei...more
Elvi Black was talked into a trip to Mexico by her friends who were concerned about her continued depression after the death of her husband and daughter in a car accident. Unfortunately, Elvi's tour van gets in an accident and somehow during the she was turned into a vampire. The friends have now decided to help again. They've posted a personal ad for her to find a vampire lover. Out of the 6 men who respond, there are 4 who stay for the week agreed upon vacation to get acquainted. One of them i...more
I LOVED THIS BOOK!
We weren't really introduced to Victor or Elvi or any other of the characters that are featured throughout this book and that's not a bad thing.
Elvi is this fantastic character who is a Vampire, and acts like a Vampire to please her neighbors in town. This town supports Elvi and helps take care of her because they feel responsible for her turning. She was turned on a vacation down in Mexico, though no one really knows how.
Victor is sent in by the council to ...more

OK, as much as I absolutely adore Lynsay Sands' Argeneau Vampire series, this particular book is my absolute favorite!!! It is so funny, and I literally laugh out loud every time I read it! I love Elvi, and I kind of identify with her in that she's so sporadic and impulsive. I loved the "emergencies" she had throughout the book, and I know that I would have reacted the same exact way in those situations! As I've said in another review, Ms. Sands is so imaginative and original with her ...more
The next in Lynsay Sands "Vampire" Romance Series (Argeneau Book 7). Not my favorite from her series, but it is very good and very funny all the way through, with a lot of things going on in a very small and clueless town. Funny, light, and a fast read.
This was definitely my favorite Argeneau book so far. I thought it was an interesting twist that Elvi was already a vampire but had no idea about how she got that way nor how to go about it & that she got all of her info from a Dracula movie (because the book was checked out of the library! Love it!) It was fun to see her get so excited over things she thought she couldn't have anymore & interesting to see the friendships with the assorted men work out. I was happy to see Victor wasn't an old gr...more
This story was not quite as good as the others I have read but still enjoyable. It had a few laughs in it. Ellen Stone (Elvi Black) is an accidental vampire, she was turned when she received blood from a vampire accidently when they were injured in a car accident so she woke up knowing nothing. Her best friends Mabel and Teddy are looking out for her and are trying to find her a vampire companion. Mabel goes as far as putting an ad in the paper which brings her to the attention of The Vampire Co...more
I really enjoyed this story! Elvi is a vampire whose knowledge of being a vampire comes from watching Dracula! Her friends, mortals, are trying to find her a vampire mate who will take care of her after they are gone, and that is how 5 vampires come to Port Henry to meet Elvi.
Victor Argeneau is one of them, going there for the counsel to make sure the vampire laws are not being broken. He doesn't expect to find his Lifemate, but does! Victor is trying to understand how Elvi has no idea...more

I loved the humour and action in this book. Elvi is the only vampire in town, fully supported by the townspeople as they feel responsible for her being changed. She is openly flaunting her vampire side, biting boys as birthday presents, and advertising for a mate! Victor is sent to investigate and finds himself with fellow vampires looking to be Elvi's mate. Now Elvi has some decisions to make about her lovelife while trying to avoid someone trying to kill her...

Originally i was going to give it a 3 out of 5 but the last few chapters were so hilarious i had to bump it up to 3.5 I'm a really big vampire buff and i actually know a lot of vampire lore because i find it all amusing. At first i was really put off by the blatant disregard to "traditional" vamp myths and then i finally got over the dislike of this authors creative interpretation. I thought the story was cute and the cast of characters were amusing. Like i said before, the last couple...more
okay, I am on the fence about this one. I was glad to see that Victor was no longer in hiding from family or friends, but meeting Elvi aka Ellen was a little draining. I get that being turned at the age of 62 was shocking, but to get all of your tips from a movie. I suppose she really didn't know better since she no one else like her, but it seemed a little odd to not experiment a little. Food? Sun? Coffin? Anyway, by the end I liked her and the life that she had in town with her friends. ...more

At First Sight: Victor Argenau wasn't sure what to expect when he was sent to Port Henry to investigate an add in the single's column from a "Single Vampire Female". As an Enforcer for the Immortal Council, it's Victor's job to make sure other Immortals don't step out of line, and advertising one's being a vampire? definitely stepping out of line.
In Port Henry, he meets Elvi Black, a beautiful, single immortal who has gotten all her ideas on 'vampire behaivor' from movies and...more

Yet another LYX-Challenge review. Lol. Okay, I know, it's getting boring, but wtf, you don't know boring until you've read "Der Schimmelreiter", 'kay?
Despite my usual problems with the plot (like the relationships most often being explained with the sentence "The nanos made me do/feel/want it/her/him."), this novel was new. Unfortunately it was very, very unbelievable, too. I mean, look at the blurb. ;)

The accidental vampire is hilarious book. In port Henry everyone believes vampires are real because of elvis, the accidental vampire. Being turned into a vampire and living by myths and legends as Elvis doesn’t know the laws for immortals. Victor being part of his job as an enforcer he goes and checks out the town due to an add being posted about a real vampire looking for a mate. When he goes he finds out the add is real and not being able to read her he can’t find out the truth about how she b...more
This one was about Lucien's brother, Victor and his life mate Elvie who by all accounts seems to have been turned accidentally into a vampire! I felt that this one didn't sort of follow on in such an easy, flowing way as the others have done, but maybe something in the plot later will explain why it was slotted in at this point?. Usually there has been some mention of the characters of the next book in the one before, or the next one brings in bits of the previous story at the beginning, (like ...more

This was much better than Single White Vampire.
My biggest problem with this book, was the townspeople. I really hate small towns, as I've mentioned in many reviews, as no one seems to be able to mind their own business and keep their opinions and noses to themselves. And this lot is almost as bad as the people from SEP's Wynette, Texas. They were all so annoying and interfering, and I absolutely agree with Edward and Victor's opinion that they treated Elvi/Ellen like a well trained p...more

I was born in 1142 which is why my first love is historicals. I’ll let you guess why I love stories of immortals…er…well, vampires to you people. When I first started writing the family history, everyone was up in arms, afraid I was revealing too much, but I explained they were being published as fiction and I wouldn’t use real names. Of course, that was before I found I just couldn’t write the st...more
