Sounds crazy, doesn’t it? Well, sadly, the book isn’t that thunderous and comical as you may think from the quote above.
Yes, all of the aforementioned creatures are in the story, and more. Let’s see what we have:

I think this is my favorite Queen Betsy book so far. The mysterious European vampires – are they friend or foe? What’s wrong with Jessica? Is there really a Zombie in the attic? And if so, what’s he doing there? - Peu de temps après avoir terminé Vampire et irrécupérable, je me suis lancée dans la lecture de la suite. Je pense que la saga s'essouffle.

This book seemed really rushed to me, which was disappointing since it was my first time picking up the Undead series again after several years and I was hoping for more. It entertained me for the one or two hours it took me to breeze through it, but I felt like a lot of the plot threads didn't really go anywhere and that Betsy never actually did very much. Etant donné mon avis sur les deux tomes précédents, j’attendais ce livre au tournant (un peu comme La communauté du Sud 11 de Harris) et là… j’avoue ne pas trop savoir quoi en penser… Je le trouve mieux que les précédents, mais de l’autre… je trouve que l’intrigue est un peu faible. Avec la quatrième de couverture, on s’attend à de l’action, à ce qu’il y ait plein de problèmes, etc. et finalement… on n’a pas grand-chose. Oui, Betsy a des soucis, plein de choses à penser et à affronter, sauf que… je trouve que ça pêche un peu, c’est assez lent, il y a pas mal de blablas inutiles… Parfois Betsy m’a un peu soulé parce qu’elle se plaint, mais ne fait rien pour y remédier, c’est un peu chiant quand même…

Je pensais qu’avec l’arrivée des vampires européens il y aurait plein d’action, de soucis et finalement c’est assez tranquille, on se demande même pourquoi elle s’inquiète ! Ce n’est que dans les dernières pages que ça devient intéressant, qu’un gros problème surgit et au final, ça ne bouleverse pas des masses, alors qu’on pourrait parfaitement le penser ! Du coup, il n’y a pas vraiment d’intrigues, juste une succession d’évènements qui montrent que Betsy a la tête ailleurs et qu’elle doit tenter de tout concilier… Entre les affaires politiques vampiriques, son mariage à venir, son anniversaire à la fin de la semaine et les soucis personnels (famille humaine)… elle a de quoi s’en faire, mais bon, c’est un peu léger et ça n’est pas si intéressant que ça.

Sinon après, j’aime bien l’univers de l’auteur, les personnages dans l’ensemble et bon… j’y suis quand même attachée et j’ai envie de savoir ce qui va se passer parce que c’est tout de même une lecture détente. Je n’attends rien de spécial de cette série à la base donc je ne suis pas vraiment déçue… mais je dois avouer que c’est dommage parce que les premiers tomes étaient vraiment bien et ça promettait beaucoup. L’idée était originale et finalement, c’est retombé assez vite, ça devient un peu redondant. Néanmoins il y a de bonnes idées et des pistes intéressantes pour la suite, qui font que j’ai quand même envie de continuer la série, mais bon, je ne m’attends pas à quelque chose d’exceptionnel. Un peu dommage quand même. Après ça reste plaisant à lire, c’est rapide, l’écriture est simple, donc le livre est vite expédié (ce qui peut être une bonne chose vu le « creux dans l’intrigue ». Betsy est quand même un personnage sympathique, je l’aime bien en dépit de ses réflexions qui donnent envie de la taper / secouer pour qu’elle bouge un peu plus. Elle est totalement déconnectée avec ce qui se passe, frivole, faut aimer ce genre de personnage, ça passe ou ça casse.

Voilà, je ne vois pas ce que je peux dire de plus parce que c’est un peu décevant par rapport à ce que cette série promettait et de l’autre j’ai quand même envie de poursuivre pour voir ce que ça donne. L’univers et les personnages sont sympathiques donc je m’y accroche, néanmoins je sais que je ne dois pas trop en attendre, sinon la déception risque d’être trop grande. Une lecture tout de même sympathique, on passe un bon moment, mais il n’y a pas réellement d’intrigue, ce qui est un peu dommage.(less)

Only a couple pages in but the characters are describing advancements that leave my mind boggled. Apparently, there's a small novella in between Undead and Unreturnable and this book that Goodreads doesn't have listed in the series. Off to look for it.

Maybe it's because I'm not ready yet to read another Betsy story.
Maybe it's because there is not enough Betsy-Sinclair romance in this book.
Maybe it's because there are too many characters dropping in and out of chapters even Betsy herself is confused.
Maybe it's because Betsy can't stop whining throughout the book without solving anything until the end.
Hell, maybe it's because the book is too thin (more value for money, please!). I don't know.

Any time I need a good dose of humor mixed with some paranormal lore and fun romance/sex I read a Queen Betsy book and get my fill. She never fails to make me laugh and Sebastion never fails to make me sigh. Damn he is a sexy brooding vamp. Yum. He's aggresive and knows what he wants with just the right amount of gentleman wrapped in. Yum again.

This book was much better than the previous book in the series. I read it in one sitting and didn't want to put it down until I was done.

My only complaint was the surprise in the attic. Betsy makes a big deal of how she should have listened to the warnings about it and when she finally had to deal with her "surprise" it only lasted a few pages and had no real impact on the book. So, George is really Garrett. He can speak and his a girlfriend who was introduced in an anthology for a completely different series. I was so confused when I started reading because it felt like being dropped in the middle of something. Especially with Jessica's bitchy attitude that seemed to come from nowhere.

Of course, it's not like she's wanting a party but if her family and friends insist on throwing one then they better know all of personal preferences.

Of course, life isn't just about planning her own birthday party as quite a few other problems loom around Betsy's life. She still has wedding plans to finalize and fiance, Eric Sinclair, has been none but too enthusiastic in helping her out. Is it too much to ask the King of Vampires to help chose the invitations, flowers and cake for their impending wedding? Betsy thinks not. I mean they are the King and Queen of Vamps so their wedding should be spectacular, right?

If planning a birthday party and upcoming wedding wasn't stressful enough, Betsy has a few unwanted guests visiting. One being a group of old and powerful vampires, who have yet pledged their allegiance to the Queen. As if their visit wasn't stressful enough, Betsy finds out that the leader of the Vampire EU, Alonzo, murdered one of her vampire friends, Sophie, hundreds of years ago and she's still quit pissed about it. Insisting on Alonzo to pay for his crime, Sophie insists that Betsy punish Alonzo for Sophie's murder. This predicament puts Betsy between a rock and a hard place. On one hand she would like to help her friend put closer to her murder but then on the other she's like the Euro vamps to pledge their allegiance to her.

If that wasn't bad enough, Betsy finds out her best friend Jessica is deathly ill and there might not be much that she could do to help her. Then a disgruntled old friend pays a visit and tries to kill Betsy and there might be a Zombie living in her basement. All in all, it's starting to look like Betsy will be having a pretty crappy week before her birthday and the fact that she's decided to quite drinking blood isn't helping. Endless problems and severe thirst makes for one very, cranky Vampire Queen.

Although there weren't very many LOL moments that stood out for me this time around I did appreciate Mary Janice Davidson's correlation between life and death in this installment. We start the novel off with Betsy planning the celebration of her life, well her life when she was 'alive' and then transition into deciding the deaths of others. Betsy struggles with the Alonzo - Sophie dilemma. Sophie insists Betsy punish Alonzo for murdering and turning her to a vampire but then Sophie also asks permission to 'turn' her own boyfriend, Liam. This in turn raises some questions on what would happen if Betsy offered her best friend, Jessica, who is deathly ill, a chance to live an immortal undead life. Although it would please Betsy to have Jessica around for a few hundred more years, would Jessica have the same sentiment of continuing on 'living' as the undead. It makes one wonder if living a short but good quality life would be worth more than living eternally. Also the fact that Betsy struggles on making the decisions of others life's and death's proves that although she's immature, curt and narcissistic; she values life as much as any living person.(less)

As with all books in this series the tongue remains firmly in check. This particular installment was desperately light in plot with a few lose ends left waving. It was more "aday in the life." I am willing to forgive the all over the place plot though because it is a series and this could simply be a book setting up a larger plot down the road.

Still more like lots of little sub-plots, but I am also still glad about that. I read this one in a little more then a lunch hour.

I am a little bummed that there is apparently a short story between the last one and this one - which explains Garrett (formerly known as George the fiend) and Toni the werewolf's relationship. And as a result...more Betsy is back. And this time she's decided to give up drinking blood. And she has lots of unscheduled visitors to her home at all sorts of hours and it's great.

Still more like lots of little sub-plots, but I am also still glad about that. I read this one in a little more then a lunch hour.

I am a little bummed that there is apparently a short story between the last one and this one - which explains Garrett (formerly known as George the fiend) and Toni the werewolf's relationship. And as a result of Toni, we saw basically no George. Which mad me sad. I don't want another peripheral character to come into the picture if all said character is going to do is take one of my favorite characters out of the picture.

To even that out, we get quite a bit of Cathie - the ghost from the last book. And I am not so sure I like her. She reminds me to much of the way the Ant interacts with Betsy and one character being that way is enough.

I am glad Jessica gets some more time in this book, but I was sad that it was done via an illness. I guess the idea of Betsy turning one or more of her friends had to be addressed at some point and this was a way to do it. But hearing that Jess is cured at the end would have been really nice.

The "European" vamps were poised to be scary but totally weren't. That's keeping in line with the fact that these books are definitely the lighter side of vampire para-romance (versus the dark series like BDB and Midnight Breed, etc. or even for as poorly as they are written the Sizemore Prime books). I was a little shocked by the Zombie sub-plot. Not so much the existence of it, but the way it was resolved. I expected there to be more to it. But maybe more will come of the existence of Zombies in general in the next books.

John's book subplot was really the worst part of this book. I get that John is likely to get his "Bees" (as Betsy calls them) back together or he's going to try for revenge against Betsy as a result but please don't subject me to that. Leave this subplot in the dust of this particular installment? Please? I would rather see way more of Sophie and Liam (although the way Liam handles that situation leaves me with questions...) Although, it was kind of funny to see that the title of the book was "undead and unwed" hehehe!

The steaminess continues to get better as the series progresses. It's still no BDB, but they are enjoyable little scenes. And I like the development of Betsy - into someone not quite so "blond" (as another reviewer put it).

I also love the references to modern popular culture. I know some don't - and some author's don't like to do it because it dates things (like one of the last of the "Prime" books I read had mention of a discman - wow, did that take me back!) but I loved the reference to Korben Dallas and the Fifth Element (I love that movie and am not ashamed to admit it!) - that earned a little ear marked page and I never ear mark pages!

I am looking forward to the wedding in this Series - maybe after that, we can get more romance for the other characters. Or just more "screen time" for the ones that are going on now (Jess and Nick would be a great perspective to see).

The writing is consistent with the rest of this series - I wouldn't say it's any better or any worse. The book was light hearted, funny, and a great escape from the seriousness of the contracts I was reviewing this morning. I am really bummed though that, from what I understand, undead and unwelcome is a new cover theme. I love the artwork on the series so far and I am totally NOT a fan of the cover I saw for that one.(less)

Still love me some Betsy Taylor. I finished this book in a big hurry. Gobbled it up you could say. I did feel like this book was a bit of a montage of the previous books however. You know, like when you're watching a tv series and the writers have run out of things to say, so they make a "remember when this happened!?" Episode. It was all good though. I did appreciate the refreshers.

Murder, mayhem and zombie. This is another great volume but Davidson. Betsy has a lot going on but it isn't like she trying to save the world. She's got an ancient vamp who is responsible for the turning (murder) of a slightly less old vamp who wants revenge or for Betsy to do something, wedding plans, bad news about a friend, and her fast. Things are piling up on Betsy and to top it off she gets stuck in the attic with a zombie.

De plus, la série de Mary-Janice Davidson en est l’exemple vivant. C’est toujours un plaisir de retrouver Betsy et d’en apprendre plus sur sa vie. Et puis cette série est toujours pleine de fraicheur et de piquant. Ces livres permettent de faire une jolie petite pause à chaque fois, tout est si drôle, si mignon, c’est très agréable d’en lire un de temps en temps.

Après avoir tant entendu parler des vampires européens, j’étais enfin contente de pouvoir les rencontrer. Après, j’avoue que je ne m’attendais pas du tout à ça. Ce n’est pas un souci non, mais il est vrai que j’aurais peut-être vu un peu plus de combats, un peu plus de complots et peut-être de grandes manigances. Je dois dire que dans la délégation j’ai été très surprise par le personnage d’Alonzo, on commence par le détester dès le départ, pour finalement commencer à le tolérer puis l’apprécier, ce qui n’était pas chose facile au départ je peux vous le dire. C’est un personnage intéressant aux multiples facettes qu’on essaie de comprendre tout au long du livre.

Betsy est comme toujours des plus délurées mais il faut dire qu’il ne lui arrive que des problèmes. Quoi que je me demande si ce n’était pas le cas, si elle ne s’ennuierait pas un peu. Et je me demande aussi parfois comment Sinclair tient, face à toutes ses nouvelles lubies. Oui parce qu’il y en a plein toujours plus extravagantes les unes que les autres, il n’y a rien qu’à voir sa dernière en date. On en apprend toujours si peu sur le mariage et on espère que les préparations avancent de manière significative. Je dois avouer que je serais bien curieuse de pouvoir y assister, ça ne sera surement pas de tout repos vu comme cela part.

L’histoire n’est pas compliquée et on prend plaisir à s’attacher à tous les personnages comme à chaque fois. Il est vrai que Betsy possède un tempérament assez spécial et on se demande parfois si cela changera, mais c’est aussi tout ce qui fait son charme.

Enfin tout ça pour dire, comme je l’ai énoncé avant que c’est toujours un plaisir de lire un bout de la vie de notre héroïne, c’est toujours une lecture divertissante et rapide. Car, en effet il faut dire que les livres ne sont pas très épais non plus. Toujours une mignonne série.(less)

Zuerst beginnt das Buch wie alle Betsy Taylor Bücher, viel freches Mundwerk und Vampisex. Aber diese ruhigen Zeiten sind bald rum. Die Fiends, sind wieder zu sich gekommen und sinnen auf Rache. Betsy bekommt neue Fähigkeiten, bzw. beginnt diese langsam zu kontrollieren und dann kommen noch einige altbekannte, mühevoll aufgebaute Charaktäre um.
Das hat mich echt getroffen wie konnte sie diese 3 einfach umbringen?

This book was an easy read. It's comical and pretty light without being fluffy. What kept me invested wasn't the plot, although it wasn't bad, but the characters. Betsy is the vampire queen, who has a potty mouth and sounds like a teenager, but her edginess is actually kind of refreshing. This is the 5th book in the Undead series about the vampire queen Betsy Taylor and her vampire followers and her human friends.

This one is not as good as the previous books, there was not that much of story to it. It is more just day to day life which in itself is okay. I would like to see more interaction between her and her king Eric Sinclair.
