For the longest time I was a SARK convert. I read all of her earliest books and listened to her message, read her newsletter, etc. But this book and the last few -- all I can say is they are sloppy and messy. The handwriting is so hard to read that I gave up after a chapter or two. I simply don't want to work that hard. I wasn't pleased when she was using the computer-generated handwriting font, but I must admit I'd rather read that than try to struggle with this. Disappointing.
I adore SARK because of her inclusion of color, fun, and just plain being human in each book she authors. She talks about friendships from all aspects, including being your own best friend. I love that this book didn't just talk about all the positives but also included the challenges of maintaining friendships too. It's real and reminded me of the people in my life who I am honored to really call my friends.
This book is fun and validating. For those of us who take our friendships seriously and are looking to continue to nurture our "chosen family." Sark is great, and her take on the importance of maintaining healthy relationships is awesome. For me, this is the book to read about non-monog's mentalities around friendships and not buying into a romantic partner sustaining/meeting all of your emotional needs.
This book has some wonderful ideas of how to build friendships both old and new. It also is filled with insights on how to let go of some pre-conceived ideas of friendships, how to handle conflict and how to have an open, lively friendship. The book is not typed up, rather handwritten which gives it a fun feel as you read through Sark's ideas.
It's not that I learn new things when I read SARK, but I am compelled (as in it is a compulsion of sorts) to flip throught those bright water-colored pages and feel nurtured like a child.
If you like SARK, go back and read some of her earlier stuff, like Inspiration Sandwich, my favorite of hers. The new one is okay, but difficult to read with her handwriting.
I usually love SARK's books but this time I think it was the topic. It would have been better if it was shorter.
Very cute book...but, also not written by hand like most of her books.
A great book to share with a friend (old or new).
