Gail Carson Levine, author of the insanely awesome novel "Ella Enchanted," always thought that Wendy was crazy for going home when she could have stayed with Peter Pan in Neverland. At least that's what her mini-bio on the dust jacket of her new novel says. Levine also dedicates the book to her first boyfriend, Peter Pan.

As a fan of the original Peter Pan story by J.M. Barrie, I was wary going into this because it's such a classic story and it's not often that continuations of those keep true to the feeling of the original. But, Gail Carson Levine is someone I trust with fairytale adaptations (see Ella Enchanted, Fairest, etc) so I gave it a go.

Prilla is a new fairy who lands in Never Land without a talent! Every fairy has a talent, and they should know what it is as soon as they land. When a ferocious hurricane hits Never Land, and threatens all they strive to protect, Prilla will have to go on a quest to help save everyone.
I guess I should have seen it coming that someday I would be the 22 year old to pick up this book for fun. In my defense, Ella Enchanted is my favorite book ever, and this is by the same author. Not More...

At first a little too cutesy for me. David Christiana's watercolored illustration was exquisite but his fairies were just a bit too Disneyesquely precious, especially after being exposed to edgier work by him in Alvin Schwartz's 'Tales of Trickery from the Land of Spoof.' And the fairy protagonist of this story appeared a little too precious, too, until she entered children's dreams. Then a dreaming Captain Hook entered the story: 'Hook snored...but his snores were refined. He snored in iamb

Fairy Dust and the Quest for the Egg by Gail Carson Levine is the first book in the Disney Fairies series by Levine. Prilla is a brand new fairy in Fairy Haven, and she has a big problem. Most fairies know as soon as they are born what their talent is, but Prilla doesn't have any idea. Tinker Bell takes her on a tour hoping to help her figure it out, but Tink quickly becomes frustrated because Prilla doesn't talk like any other fairy, seems to be talentless and occasionally blanks out on convers

This book would have been below my reading level when I was 5, but it is a great children's book nevertheless, and one that I will probably have on hand for my own children someday. Levine is a marvelous author, even when writing stories in someone else's "world." The level of detail and complexity of her characters, particularly Vidia, make this an interesting story even for the adults who may be reading it aloud.

The newest fairy to arrive in never land is Prilla. She is so odd that even the whole neverland can't figure out if she should be aloud as a never fairy. She evan says pleased to meat you instead of fly to meat you! There can't be more, but there is.. she calls Tinker Bell Miss bell all togetather she is just a total clumsy fairy instead of a normal calm never fairy. To make everything worse she can not figure out what her talent is or maybe she just has no talent at all? :( A hurricane, a selfi

I hadn't known she had written a book for Disney. Not sure if the book was for the movie or vice versa, but it was pretty similar to their recent Tinkerbell movie. It wasn't as interesting as most of her books, and the sentence structure was much more simple, although the vocabulary wasn't exactly appropriate for an early reader either. Anyway, it still had many of the strong points of her books--good characterization and details in everything. Some young girls might like it as a bed time story

"He snored in iambic pentameter, with an occasional spondee thrown in."
Really? Listen, I'm not afraid to admit this - I don't know what the hell that means. Something about snoring. That's all I got. I'm 33 years old and not a stupid person. How, someone please tell me, is the average child supposed to figure that out?

This book was given to my 8-year-old daughter. She read it at least twice and loved it. She then put it on my "to read" shelf (I literally have a to read shelf on my living room book case).
I've read some of the other Disney fairy books, and I was not impressed. This book, however, is different. It's actually well-written. A little over halfway through, when Levine describes the sleeping Hook as "snor[ing:] in iambic pentameter," I was sold. And then the endi More...

Everyone - I'm sure - Knows about Neverland and Peter Pan, Wendy, the Lost Boys, and Tinker Bell, But do you know who Prilla is??? Prilla is a new Fairy in NeverLand. She doesn't seem to have a particular talent. (Which is odd because every fairy has a special talent.) One day an unexpected Tragedy comes to Neverland. How will the Never Fairies fix it??? Well you'll just have to find out won't you??? :) I really lived this book. i was one of my YSS books and I think all of the girls liked it in

I realized part of why I like the Disney Fairies better than the Disney Princesses: Disney Fairies have everything they need and are happy. Disney Princesses get everything they want. I just think I would rather be the Fairies than the Princesses. Disney Fairies are happy with the way things are, especially happy with themselves. Disney Princesses… Sure they are happy because they get what they want. But are they happy with themselves, or just with the things they have?

Gag me with a tinker's bell and leave me to die.
Normally, I like Levine's work. This is an abnormal book. I don't know if the problem lies in the fact that Levine's best work is for an older audience (perhaps she misjudged her tone for this one) or that I am an older audience than the book was written for (I'm no longer a preschooler, sadly). But usually I'm pretty good at enjoying books written for any age reader. This one failed to draw me in. Instead, the saccharine whininess of t More...

This book was a gift in a literary sense as well as that our librarians gave it to my daughters. My five year old hung on every word and loved the magical fairy world and the adventures. My three year old stayed with me for each page although I think the language exceeded her ability to comprehend much. My girls thought the book was so pretty. They loved the pictures. They loved the idea. They loved the book.

This book was given to me for Christmas several years ago. It was actually the first book I remember staying up past my bedtime to read. I have to say that this book was completely amazing. I loved meeting the new fairy Prilla and experiencing her journey to Never Land and her search for her talent. I also enjoyed meeting new characters as well as familiar old friends. Definitely one of my favorite books.

I'm not sure what age group this is targeted for but I think it is too violent for young girls that would be interested in a Tinkerbell story. I was reading a chapter a night to my 4 year old and found I had to do a lot of paraphrasing to help her understand and also to edit age inappropriate material. If I could rate the artwork seperately I would give it 5 stars, the illustrations are beautiful!

Okay so, I saw this at Half-Price Books (My favorite store) and I just had to get it. I love Gail Carson Levine, and the fairy movies featuring Tinkerbell are pretty adorable, I'll admit it. Plus, anyone who knows me knows that I'm a Disney Princess enthusiast and they list Tinkerbell on their list of official Princesses...And hey! I have a little sister! It's a cute story to read at bedtime.

I have been reading this book to my girls at bedtime for about a month. It's a really sweet story. The artwork is beautiful. I was surprised that I enjoyed it as much as my daughters.
I'm only a little embarrassed to admit that the end got me a little teary eyed. We're excited to start the next book in the series for the bedtime story. Lovely writing.

I had to read this book for a Children's Literature course, but I think I would have eventually read it anyways. I love everything Disney produces, and this novel is charming and sweet, and what could be better than learning about the origin of Never Land! And the beautiful artwork makes this a delightful piece for young girls!

This book surprised me, because as many times as I've looked at the cover and thought that I'd like to read it, I never realized it was Disney-related. When Tinkerbell first appeared I was a little shocked. And when I found out she was a Pots and Pans Fairy, I was a little stunned, since Tinkerbell always seemed a little prissy. Overall I enjoyed the story and liked the theme of finding your place in the world. The fairy characters were reasonably well developed, and fun to follow on their j

The illustrations are beautiful so I do give the illustrator 4 stars. But the story did not move me. One redeeming quote from the book which brought a smile to my face was the description of Captain Hook's snore..."Hook snored too, but his snores were refined. He snored in iambic pentameter, with an occasional spondee thrown in."

I bought this book for Aoife before we went to Disney, but never managed to read it until now. I started reading it to her, but the boys became so interested they have been listening every night. We have started all crowding into Aoife's bed at night so everyone can see the pictures. I do love Gail Carson Levine. I should have known it would be a hit, with the Ella Enchanted obsession of earlier this year.

Read this book when I was (relatively) little (8 years old, if I recall correctly), and still obsessed with fairies. Loved it immediately. They recently made a movie, but I haven't seen it and don't really intend to because I'm pretty sure Disney has ruined it. So sad. But the book is good.

My daughter got this book for a gift and of course I had to read it. It is an interesting incite into the world of fairies. You find the fairies are just like people, only smaller and wings. We all know and love Tink... and we know her love for Peter...this shows her other side. Who would've thought she had another side. This book also introduces us to a new kind of fairy. Great book for older children I'd say 1st grades would love to listen to this and 2nd/3rd graders would like to read i

This is a childrens chapter book that I got for my 9 year old to read. She was to busy reading other things so I decided to read it since I like the author. It is a cute story starting around age 6-7. It is a more difficult read than say Magic tree house or Junie B Jones.

I was at my sister's house. We were going to Disney World the next day with my nephew and I was sleeping in my niece's room. I was in a strange house and couldn't sleep do I picked this up. This world is surprisingly well crafted and thought out.

Read this to my four year old, who is a huge Peter Pan fan, and we both have loved the entire series. Levine creates an entire magical world and a story filled with adventure and suspense, a great story to read with your little one.
