Whoa.

I must admit, when I opened this book and saw that it was first person narrative, I wanted to put it aside and call it a day. The sex scene (boohyah!) at the beginning made me wonder if I were reading one of those tell all erotica novels (cue, the wicka chicka music in the background).

But.

The premise intrigued me: Genevieve is called home for a funeral, and the story is told through the eyes of her husband, a nameless presence, but a presence, to be sure. The first person...more

In Genevieve, Eric Jerome Dickey gives us an inside look into the anatomy of an affair and whether you can ever really be truly happy with the person you've married. The unnamed narrator is an AIDS research married to the brilliant and successful Dr. Genevieve Forbes, a well-educated black woman who has a past full of secrets. When tragedy strikes in her family, Genevieve and her husband's lives are thrown into disarray as they travel to her home town of Odenville, AL for a funeral. Along the wa...more

this book was really good! its really complicated but you just have to pay attention to get it. Eric Jerome Dickey is the best author ever! this book is about a girl that has a really bad pass that she doesnt want her husband to know about. but at the end he is devestated by what he finds about her. He also has a pass that hurts him in many ways. together they overcome them and decide wheather thier marriage is gonna work.

To never keep any secret from your lover nor your child even if your child calls you sister because you do not want her or because you weren't the one who raised her. The mothers boyfriend slept with the child simply because she was forcing herself on the man. I believe the man wouldn't have done that if only he knows they are mother and daughter.

Steamy! If real people have sex lives like these characters, then my friends are certainly holding out on me! Ha. Anyway, this author is great at creating realism in his settings and none of his characters are quite what they seem. Lots of pain & emotion. Still, entertaining...but a bit graphic for my tastes.

VERY Good book!!! Racy, provocative , very good read. I LOVE Dickey's writings. The main story took place in Birmingham Alabama and it was just so weird to hear them talk of different places here and I know where they are. VERY good story up until the VERY end!! MOUTH DROPPING MOMENTS!!! LOVE IT!

I finished this book in exactly 36 hours of constant reading. Literally a 'page turner'. I love stories about self-discovery. Everyone has a past and we often try to avoid the dark or unpleasant parts about it even to the point of developing our own version of our reality. Great book!!

I didn't really like this one, it moved a little too slow and the main charcter had too many unresolved issues to be such an educated person. Others may like it because it had some intreging situations to it.

Hated it! I did not like the places Dickey took us poor unsuspecting readers in this novel. And guess what - I told him so at a book signing for "Sleeping with Strangers".

I like to refer to my Dickey obsession as a "love for educated trash" his books are great! Perfect for a trip to the beach or hanging out in the park.
