I have never (ever ever) dived deeper into a movie than I have done with Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. It was a completely new feeling to me, to be captivated by a movie so much so to want to know everything about it. Eternal Sunshine is one of my favourite films because it really is a work of both genius and art and reading everything behind it is just as interesting and compelling as watching Joel fight on a most troublesome (and surreal) journey to hold on to his memories. It was r ...more

I'm constantly asked which book is my favorite. Since I can't pick one book in particular, I'll pick my favorite movie and call it my favorite book too. I can't think of a more perfect story. Every time I watch this movie, I'm left in awe.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is one of my favorite movies, and I've seen a lot of movies from the beginning of film from many different countries. The story at its most basic is one we've all heard many times before. Boy meets girl, they fall in love, and then they break up. But the storytelling is unique and creative, the idea that a person could erase memories to make living life easier after a breakup, only to realize that the memories, no matter how painful, are important and worth ...more

This is the script of the famous movie.... the script is simply amazing.

TO READ ! And if you did not see the movie, GO SEE IT !

The plot from the author:

"Joel (Jim Carrey) is stunned to discover that his girlfriend Clementine (Kate Winslet) has had her memories of their tumultuous relationship erased. Out of desperation, he contacts the inventor of the process, Dr. Howard Mierzwiak (Tom Wilkinson), to have Clementine removed from his own memory. But as Joel's memories progressively disappear, he
Wow, do I understand the movie better after reading the script.

This is a really, really gorgeous script. The movie is, of course, a great thing -- beautiful and atmospheric and dreamlike -- but so much of that atmosphere and beauty comes directly out of this script. Kaufman's comments throughout are amazing, and the whole thing is executed so masterfully. What a read.

Devouring all I can on this film for a school project. Reading the script as entertaining! I like to see the descriptions. Also it forces a focus on the dialogue, since the visuals aren't present. A fun, alternate way to enjoy the film. It's also neat to see what dialogue was removed or revised. Finally, the interview in the end with the writer of the film is compelling.

I'm done with this "erasing memory and forget a whole relationship and fall in love with the same guy all over again" thing, It's not a new idea!
The writing is bloody wondrous and it is just how it has to be,perfect for the screen. Afterall, every thing Kaufman writes is extremely moving. if you love it,I suggest you to get as much as you can about how it was made. This edition is full of important special contents,so there are curiosities that are pretty difficult to find on the internet. There are prefaces and a long, deep interview with Charlie Kaufman, moreover a lot of pictures of the movie with his comments ( comments that are so hon ...more
What I found the most eye-opening from reading the screenplay is how different some parts of the final film turns out from the original screenplay. I also enjoyed the though process and reference points discussed in the Charlie Kaufman interview.
اين فيلم يكي از بهترين فيلمهاست كه بحث خيالي و ذهني بودن جهان را به خوبي به تصوير كشيده است

Seemingly made me look at life differently. Well written. Strong and deep meaning behind the book.

لا أصاب بالملل من مشاهدته :)

Witty, well crafted, funny and moving screenplay of the wonderfull 2004-film. This final shooting draft screenplay has not been redacted to match the final cut of the film. So you'll get additional snippets of dialogue, some 'new' scènes and subplots and off course a great insight in the cutting process of the film. The structure and tempo of the final cut is better then the screenplays, but all in all is ESOTSM one of those great screenplays people will be referring to in the future...
Love the movie so the script was a perfect read for a fan of the movie. This is where I learned of The Red Right Hand.

This screenplay reads even better than I remember the movie to be; and it is one of my favorite films. For the movie buff, this book is the extended writer's cut with "bonus features" - an interview with Kaufman, intro from director Michel Gondry, and a collection of stills with captures written by Kaufman. It's a great companion to a fantastic film.

Recommends it for: fans of the movie
In a fit of "I want to be a screenwriter" enthusiasm, I went to the library and checked out 1 million screenwriting books. This happened to be on the shelf nearby (thanks, Dewey decimal), so I grabbed it. I hadn't seen the movie in a while, so it was interesting to see how much detail the script went into (and, in most cases, didn't go into).
It was interesting to try and follow along as I watched the film. It was especially interesting to see how much of the "shooting script" didn't make it into the final cut of the movie. The dialogue in the screenplay is long-winded, oft-times overkill. Screen directions were sometimes followed without detour though.
Beautifully written script, emotionally moving even on the page, with great photographs and insights by the man himself, Charlie Kaufman.

Definitely recommended for fans of the film and of Kaufman's other work. It reads like a beautifully wrought play.

i really liked this screenplay. i mean, i love the movie, that it is why i bought this book and read it, but the screenplay is always a little different. it was a good interesting read though and i recommend it to anyone!
This is probably the closest you can get to the movie. The narration is brilliant, the feeling of being one of those characters you can relate to impends on you immediately. Fabulous read. Recommended for everyone.

a dream of mine is towork with charlie kaufmann. i would suggest watching this movie over and over until it is understood how perfect the script is then reading the adaptation screenplay. And then just being blown away.

so simply beautiful is kaufmaun's structure, always. i read this to find formal patterns of how to shift and blur within subjective world inside mind and physical world of literal reality outside mind.
good to teaching tool parallel use with Kaufman's script of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Alexander Pope's "The Rape of the Lock, and other Poems" and The End of the Story: A Novel
This screenplay is strange and adorable. I've never seen the film, but I really liked what I read. I'm interested to look into the issue of Clementine versus the Manic Pixie Dream Girl image.
Kaufman is a screenwriting genius, and this screenplay shows where the beauty and honesty of my favourite film came from.
