Oggi è lettura div ...more

A pretty naive novel, very much focused on sensational not on credibility. It is definitively a recipe for any modern commercial success. And when there are also famous detectives involved, it is hard to miss it.

These kind of novels usually don't have an elaborate premise. It is consisting of the usual good versus evil fight, but for this one, Maurice Leblanc wanted to create a crime/detective novel without a negative character. He tried hard to make the villain look like just an adventurer that

Had been looking forward to this, as it is considered one of the classics of the Lupin series and really found that it didn't live up to the hype.
The 'meeting' between Lupin and Sherlock Holmes happens mostly off stage until the grand finale and neither character comes across very well.

Most of the action focuses on a young French student and amateur detective, who manages to hold his own against the gentleman thief.

There are alot of great ideas and mystery here, but Lupin, who we are supposed to

L'aiguille creuse = The Hollow Needle (Arsène Lupin, #3), Maurice Leblanc

There was a lot of French myth and legend and geography in this one, which I am really not very familiar with. While I didn't mind, exactly, I think I would have enjoyed (and understood) what was going on a lot better if I'd had a more solid frame of reference. I also got the feeling that the story was complicated and full of twists...for the sake of being complicated and full of twists. I guess I was more interested in the characters, and while complications, misdirection, disguises and forgeri ...more

Took me a while but too many other things kept away from the story but at the end all good :-)
Finish and it's time to add review, giving it higher 3,8 stars here showing as 4 for good writing, nice style and interesting read. Pity is that Arsen is not more involved and story circulates around Isidore Beautrelet... still might be more interesting to see it from this point of view as MR Lupin is not main character even tho everyone talks about him. This gives him great power to manipulate the rest

Nostalgia ~

I had read this book about 35 years ago , in korean fairy tale.

Faint memory lead to read this book incesstently without break .

But not so interesting compared with modern comtemporary thrillers such as John grisham , Sydney sheldon, and so on .

Nonetheress , this is monumental masterpiece of thriller genre novel.

hopeless book but certainly not bland or boring

Not as good. Lupin in love is a bit dull and he is in this one and it's mostly the reason for his actions and ultimately his defeat in some way. The plot is entwined with some big king of France secret that mixes the man behind the iron mask, Joan of Arc and a few other well known dates and names. It feels like a patchwork. Kinda let's throw things together and let's see what sticks kinda plot.

Isidore, the young scholar is a worthy adversary for Lupin and is the highlight of the tale. Interesti

I ummed and ahhed over how many stars to give this book. Three seems mean but 4 seems too high. Arsene Lupin books are always a thrilling read and always keep you guessing. In this book we're introduced to boy wonder Isidore Beautrelet, 17 year old detective genius who succeeds in tracking down Lupin where Herlock Sholmes and Inspector Ganimard fail.

As usual, the book's full of disguised identities and red herrings and twisting routes to the truth. So while not the best so far in the series, cer

The first Arsène Lupin I read and certainly one of my favorites. <3
This Is Not The Michael You're Looking For
Another Lupin tale, this one follows many of the others by focusing on the people investigating Lupin rather than on Lupin himself. The most cohesive story to date, it introduces a new character as a foil, a young genius of a student who succeeds where "Holmlock Shears" fails. The story meanders a bit, eventually devolving to a historical conspiracy theory that would make Dan Brown proud.

Overall, just not as gripping as some of the earlier tales.

It gets easier to follow once you realize this is the plot to National Treasure: Book of Secrets.

Just assume Benjamin Gates = Beautrelet, though, because Nicolas Cage as Arsene Lupin will make your head explode.

Arsene Lupin Gentleman-Cambrioleur!! How all the ladies secretely wish to be dating someone like HIM... i give it a 4, mostly because Leblanc has a gift for making the reader fall in love with the characters! Sometimes however, in this story, things move a little too slowly for my taste, but then again i have a short attention span... :o)
