Normally, when faced with a self-published book, I'm wary. Many self-pubs end up being poorly written with poor plots, poor editing and really only good in the writers mind. When said self-pub book is labelled christian fiction, I begin to really worry. When someone feels the need to label something as a religious fiction it's often because the book comes across as preachy, sacrificing plot and characters to use the book as a pulpit. This book, thanks be to the Author, dodges both pitfalls easil ...more

Black Dragons is a great read, and I highly recommend it for anyone, especially for young adults and for home schoolers. The author makes very effective use of the main character's perspective, heightening the suspense by only allowing us to see and hear what the main character does. The story draws you in to the hopes, fears, and difficult decisions of a young man thrust into great responsibility during a tumultuous time in American history. Though the story starts in the American colonies, the ...more

I am a big fan of the historical naval fiction genre. I prefer a little more naval and a reflection of historical fact. However I thought this was a great story and a enjoyable read. A coming of age story that shows the importance of honor, faith and taking a stand for what you hold dear. Got it on loan with kindle prime, what a great deal. I am really looking forward to a sequel.

I normally would not have read this type of genre book, but having completed the authors other book, The Eyes of the Heart (which I loved also), I thought I would give it a try. To my surprise, I really enjoyed the character development and interaction in this more young adult type read (a lot of action). The characters seemed so real that I found myself cheering them on and dreading the idea of losing them. There was even a little romance included and I loved the lead female character, although ...more

A friend recommended this book and mentioned that it was not what they expected, but better, so I took a chance and read it. They were right. There are a few areas that reveal that this is the authors first novel, but the story, the character development, and the style it was written in made it a fun and exciting read. It's a great book for all ages, it has a solid spiritual message intertwined, and a great ending. A fun story and I look forward to future novels from this author.

Excellent. Well written and it kept my attention from the beginning to the end. Recommend to all age groups. Great character development, unique story, and strong message.

This book was an absolute joy to write. It is now the #1 best selling Adventure novel on Smashwords.com. I hope you let the reviews on Kindle and Smashwords speak for the quality and value of the book. Here is one I thought captured the story:
"Just like people, there are times when we prejudge a book, only to be completely surprised by it once we read it. The Black Dragons was NOT a shallow “pirate” novel for young boys as the book cover first led me to think; instead it was about a very deep an
