Now as you can clearly see I didn't give Native Son the best rating, and well that's because I didn't like it that much. The book to me was boring, predictable at parts and just not what I'm into reading about. Although I think that, well I guess what you could call the moral of the story was a good message, I personally think that the story wasn't that amazing. In this essay I will tell you exactly why i did not like Native Son.

MURDER, ROBBERY, RAPE in the book written by Richard Wright, Native Son all of those crimes happened. This book which is based from more than 70 years ago is a good book for the mature mind. The book has every thing us teenagers read now. It has a weird type of connection to education. I liked the book for one it shows us how the most toughest people may just be showing off, another reason why I liked it was because it had an interest of crimes. The reason why I gave the book a 3 was becaus...more

Native Son

The story Native Son written by Richard Wright has been banned, its success has been vandalized, and many people who enjoy the experience of taking life and converting it to ink have yet to flip through its pages because of the on going rumors that suffocate libraries and bookstores. Yet it still remains one of the greatest works of literature in its era. I enjoyed reading this book from cover to cover, but I must admit that when I first picked it up I had no interest in reading ...more

What makes a book great? A book that catches your attention from the very begging and never lets it loose. A book that is so well written that makes you feel as if you were siting there watching a movie as you read. And of course a book that has a story line that keeps you guessing. I can honestly say that Native Son by Richard Wright is one of these books. It was one of the best books that i have read. From the first page through the last it had my attention and i didn't want to put it...more

Last quarter my English class decided to read and analyze Native Son, a book written by Richard Write. I did not enjoy reading it at all. First of all, it started bad and ended worst. Second of all, I am not too interested in reading about 500 pages of a story that I can hear about on the news in 5 minutes. Finally, I feel that the entire book was written in pessimistic view and I am an optimist. This book was not for me, I read it to late.

First of all, the book began bad and ended...more

Flawed But Powerful

Richard Wright's reputation seems to rest on two books - Native Son and Black Boy. While the later book is better written and in every way the product of a writer in complete possession of his craft, it may be the former book that is more powerful and important.

While Black Boy is a fictionalized retelling of Wright's own life, Native Son tells an archetypal story of an African American who strikes out at white society by committing murder. On the one hand, we disapprove of...more

Ahh Native Son, a book wrote for a young mind, a smart mind, a mind thirsting a urging for knowlege. Hahaha not this book. Okay so lets be honest here ok, no reason to lie about this one, I Dave Tillmon hated this book with a passion, more than I hate pink meadows with cute bunnies, but hey then again thats my opinion. Ok for one there are no chapters in this book. Two makes no relation to my life. Three well just not my type of book.

Okay so yeah like i said before there are no chapters in t...more

This book Native son was a little boring in the begining. I really liked the killing of the rat which shows that he protects his family and that he's not sacred. But when he get's in front of white person and he gets so mad because of the underground racism that goes on in the 1930's. I liked this book for three reasons he doesn't understand his self in a way, where the book takes place and the last reason is because of the plot in the story.

I said he doesn't understand his self in a way bec...more

Native Son was a long drawn out book that I didn’t like too much. Sometimes when I read a book that is not interesting, I find a way to read the book anyway, but this book was not one I could get into. Native Son had a lot of symbols that required you to think outside of what was on the page and in between the lines. I was not captured from the beginning and it didn’t make me want to find out what was next. Having this experience in the beginning of a book didn’t motivate me at all to re...more

Native Son by Richard Wright, I really didn't like this book, but I had to read it because it was a part of my class grade. My teacher gave us this book to read in class. He told us that it was a great book to read and I would love it but sadly I was let down by the book. This is a book that I will never pick up and read again. I would never tell anyone to read this book. I don’t like this book because of the badly written characters, the confusing conflict, and the story n...more

In this short essay I would like to state why I did not enjoy the book native son. In this short essay I am going to state how the book was not interesting enough for me.
The book native son started off with a young man waking up in a rather small room. Were he had no space for himself, His brother and he had to turn around so his mother and sister could put some clothes on. The part people in my class thought was interesting was when there was a rat in the room and Bigger had to kill...more

UPDATE:
I finished this book in three days. Damn. It unsettled me, upset me, and downright disturbed me. And on an artistic level, it excited and inspired - in light of mindf**k nature of the subject matter, Richard Wright's prose is so powerful, so viscerally absorbing that I found myself wanting to get sucked deeper and deeper into whatever ugly, dark mess Bigger Thomas might've had in store. The plot or the rhetoric (more so) did drag in places, but I can't really complain.

I'm not g...more

The book Native Son was boring to me. It did not have anything that interested me. I’m sorry but this book was like a week in hell for me. This book was all about murder and different ways to kills someone or something.

When my teacher first gave use the book he made it seem so good and I was thought to never judge a book by its cover so I didn’t. The first page was about murder. He was killing a rat and playing with it after it was dead. You couldn’t he just take it and put it in the t...more

I really liked the book, Native Son. I like Richard Wright's writing. First off , this novel caught my attention as soon as I started reading it. Secondly, this was a well written book. Lastly, Native Son kept my attention throughout the entire novel.

The book Native Son, starts out with a "demon" rat running around Bigger Thomas' house. He chases it around the house. He finally takes a skillet and kills the rat. He continues to pound it when it is evidently dead. When I ...more

(GRADE THIS)

The book native son talks about a young boy that is confused and angry. First it talks about a black boy named bigger and he is the oldest out of his brothers and sisters. He lives with his mom in a one room apartment and starts of killing a rat in the fist chapter. Bigger then meets up with some of his friends at the pool room and starts to plain a robbery but backs out of it after getting into an argument with his friend.

After that hole issue bigger the...more
