What can you do with a shoe? You can put it on your ear or wear it on your head or butter it like bread or use your apple jam instead!

What can you do with a hat? You can fill it up with pickles or with popcorn or with glue. An octopus could rest in it, a bird could build a nest in it, a turtle be a guest in it. Or would a horse look best in it?

The beauty of this edition is that the Maurice Sendak illustrations are in full colour, which was not the case with the first edition of this delightful book.

Two young children, dressed in their parents' clothing, ask questions about everyday objects and what could be done with them. They invent all sorts of silly things to be done with a shoe, a chair, a hat, a cup, a broom and a bed, which gives Sendak plenty of scope for plenty of amusing illustrations.

For instance a shoe can be worn on the h

With pictures by Maurice Sendak (you know, Where the Wild Things Are) this book is absolutely delightful! A whimsical, 60/70ish feel... oh and English it also seems English, as in England, to me. (Although it's not. Not 60/70ish, since it was first pubished in 1955 and recolored in 1997. And it's not English, the author was born in Lafayette, IN.) But most of all it's delightful! And don't let the fact that it was first published over 50 years ago stop you from purchasing this book. I read it to ...more

This book is a wonderful book for kids! The book is a great way to get childrens' creative mind active and flowing! The book shows children that you can use your imagination to make any boring object seem cool and handy! The book shows two siblings who are bickering back and forth about what different things you can do with several types of objects. The sister is getting angry at all the creative and silly things the brother is saying. This book is a great book to read for humor. Kids will defin ...more

This book, illustrated with theatrical flair by Maurice Sendak, is more about Imagination than Shoes... but it's all about the title for today's story time. We just shared the first few pages which were about...SHOES!

Warning: do not read if you are not able to enjoy pure silliness. What is the silliest thing you can do with a shoe? A chair? A cup? No matter how silly you are, this book could give you a few ideas. Not to mention that with pictures by Maurice Sendak, how can you go wrong?

This charming book dates from 1955 and has aged very well. Find it at your library to learn all the things you can do with a shoe, with a cup, with a chair, with a broom, and other household objects!

This delightful book has fun with illustration and language. The bossy but lovely sister and scrappy little brother have fun imagining what to do with shoes and other common items.

Another favorite of my youth. The author and illustrator did not fear to appear ridiculous, and always inspired giggles.
