Jun 11, 2012 Kristin Anders rated it 3 of 5 stars Recommends it for: People who enjoyed Ten Ruby Trick

How are the sex scenes?

There are a few scenes referred to, but none are described.

How are the story lines?

Clever, ever changing and written to purposefully keep you guessing. This book is definitely an extension of the first one and you should read The Pirate's Lady after reading Ten Ruby Trick.

Would you read it again?

No, but I would read Ten Ruby Trick to appreciate this novel better.

Review

To enjoy this book you should read Pirates of Estovan #1 "Ten Ruby Trick" first.

I really and truly struggled with this book. I never stopped debating whether I would actually bother trying to finish it. I didn't realise until I was quite far into it that it was a sequel. There's no mention of that fact on Amazon, on GoodReads (or there wasn't at first, anyway), or even on the publisher's site, which does recommend the first book, Ten Ruby Trick, as a book you may be interested in when you view this book, but it also recommends The Viking's Sacrifice, which is also by this a...more

I started out not liking this book at all. There were too many poorly defined characters and there seemed to be some sort of back story that I couldn't figure out. It took me about half the book before things started to make some sense. This didn't feel like a stand alone book which was not clear in the book description. Probably reading the first book in the series would have been an immense help.

By the second half of the book I was enjoying it immensely. The characters were different, not very...more

I go this book through netgalley And I tried to read it and just couldn't. Usually I try to read at least half before I give up and there any many books I totally give up on. This one though I didn't even make it half way. I wasn't expecting a paranormal bit in it but there was and it threw me off. Not that I don't like paranormal, I love it but this world I couldn't accept. Maybe I didn't read enough but I was so confused. I felt like I was reading a sequel and didn't know what was going on. I...more

Sequel to Ten Ruby Trick. Highly enjoyable romp blending magic, romance and a heist story with lots of twists and turns. The hero Van Gast is pure fun with his "do the stupid but exciting" motto, and I was rooting for him to get back together with Josie.

Small quibble: I don't like the title. While Josie and Van Gast are both pirates, they prefer to be known as racketeers and very little of the action takes place on board ship. Find the Lady would have worked better IMO.

I adored the first book, Ten Ruby Trick. This was even better. A fantasy world in which love overcomes all the odds. Exciting, well written, edge of the seat stuff. I loved it!

The Pirate's Lady is a sequel to Ten Ruby Trick, and I continue to fall even deeper in love with these characters and their adventures. I hope there are more to come!

Oooh let's see. Um, loved fantasy since that first King Arthur book when I was about 8. I love all fantasy but particularly Epic, and I like a strong romance element too ( which is probably why that's what I write!)

I love Pratchett, Cherryh, Gaimen to name but a few, but heck I'll give anyone a go.
