Once Upon
If your looking for a short story that has imagination and magic in it then you should read Blink. Right from the beginning when you start reading the story you feel like you are in the story with Lance. All through the book every time he blinks you are introduced to a new character or new surroundings.Throughout the story each character is described perfectly and you meet a ton of characters. The main character Lance was driving to school was he noticed a top hat dangling in the tree like a Gyps...more

Three Crow Press Review by OCDReader

A very quick read as it is only around 12 pages long, but I really enjoyed this short story. I agree with some other reviewers that I saw on goodreads.com that it has an Alice in Wonderland feel to it, but to be clear, there is no rabbit hole. This is a little scarier as you simply need to be lured into a forest or really whatever portal Amaisia creates to tempt you in. Once in, you are stuck in Amaisia’s dream world unless you figure out the rules quick enoug...more

3.5 stars, but I like to round up!

I'm a little torn on this one. The writing is good, and the story itself is very imaginative and descriptive. The idea is intriguing - every blink changes Lance's surroundings, bringing new characters as well. It's a little bit jolting, although it's supposed to be. I mean, not much can happen between blinks.

I did at one point wonder why he didn't close one eye at a time so he didn't really have to blink. :)

"Blink" is a very quick read, and for the most part I e...more

Blink by Lloyd Poast is one incredibly imaginative and magical short story! It's a fairly quick read, but once you step into the world Mr. Poast created, you will not want to leave. It's furiously good. Enchanting, eye-popping and alluring, it's a tale like no other out there, and the only story I could possibly compare it to would be Alice In Wonderland, as it possesses the same dream-like, mesmerizin...more

Wow... just wow!
Blink by Lloyd Poast was really good. I didn't expect to like it this much. This book was a short but amazing story. I could imagine everything that was so vividly described. I absolutely loved reading every word of it. I actually couldn't get through the book fast enough and yet I didn't skim anything. I could totally see this becoming a full novel and even a series one day maybe. It all had a Alice in Wonderland feeling. I couldn't help but notice the similarity, which I think...more

Rating: 4.5

Blink was such an imaginative and vivid short story. It was full of danger, excitement, and fantasy.

It was great seeing and experiencing everything from the descriptive eyes of our hero, seventeen year old Lance, as his curiosity got the best of him and he wandered the eerie woods located in his small town of Angel Falls. But as Lance soon learns, the whispered stories of the forest weren’t just tall-tales, and with every blink of his eyes, his surroundings change, and Lance is in for...more

This is a short but very imaginative read. The descriptions are so vivid you find yourself getting lost in the magic world even if only for a short time.

At first I felt the story was a little disjointed with characters and new themes just coming out of the place from every angle but once my mind caught up and realised that this is exactly how it's supposed to feel like I managed to settle into the imaginative world and enjoy the ride.

This story has a very similar feel to Alice in Wonderland wit...more

Blink by Lloyd Poast is a short novel so this is going to be a short review! I'd like to thank the author for the opportunity to review his novelette and I also apologize for taking forever in posting this review.

In Blink, we read about Lance who had quite an adventure when he decided to enter the "scary" woods. Nobody ever goes to the woods, but Lance just couldn't resist following the magical purple top hat that seemed to be calling to him. In less than twenty pages, we read about the interest...more

Background: Lance is a teenage boy, who miraculously gets pulled into an enchanted forest. His one goal is to figure out what is going on and get back home.

Review: Wow! This is a very short story but it packs a punch. Poast is a master of imaginative worlds, the forest in Blink is amazing and his conjuring of it is spectacular. Lance is a likeable character, even though there is not much known about him, and there are other interesting manifestations along his journey as well. I think that this...more

I really enjoyed this short story. I agree with other reviewers that it has an Alice in Wonderland feel to it, but no rabbit hole. This is a little scarier as you just need to be lured into a forest and you are in Amaisia's dream world. The ocean creates new land from the inhabitants dreams and nightmares so things get a little wacky. It would be a fascinating adventure/quest story or graphic novel but I loved the writing, the characters and the setting. (Dave McKean would make awesome art for t...more

Well, this story reads like a bad trip on LSD. The author even makes a reference to it. The story is entertaining. It took all of 20 minutes to read. You can clearly see the author's vivid imagination come to life. I think that given time to cultivate the story and flesh out the characters this story would be a pretty good book.

This is a very imaginative short story full of complex and vivid imagery. The descriptions were the main point of the story, and definitely took the spotlight.

The story itself felt like a dream. Anything could happen and nothing follows the normal rules of physics. It was a wild adventure that felt very vivid.
