Argh!! Prepare yourself for a cliffhanger my friends......
So let me start with the iffy part first. The beginning of 'Torn' did have me a bit confused as it went back and forth between present, past, dreams and reality. I got to a point where I wasn't sure if a pivotal scene with Samantha aka Sam (our poor tortured main character) actually did happen or if she just dreamed it. Later in the book these first few chapters are explained and I was fine with it at that point.

REVIEW:
Don't let looks deceive behind this normal looking cover is a true wonder with a smooth flow. From start to finish i was gripped in a tale of good vs evil with a little added romance and good dose of oh wow's ! Samantha looks to have a tough time ahead and isnt entirely sure she can handle it . A larger than life plot great characters and plenty of twists, turns, spills and thrills definitely a book that needs its very own shelf . I wouldn't want to say this is only for the YA but anyone...more

"Torn" by Christine Hughes is a great paranormal read for young adults. Samantha English lives with two boys her age who are there to protect her in the absence of her father.
Soon Samantha learns that her family has some paranormal roots and although now on the side of the good they used to be on the side of evil, making her a target for the evil forces as well as a potentially unreliable alliance partner. While Samantha comes to terms with this new knowledge she is being trained to control her...more

Plot line.
Good vs Evil is the basis of this story as with millions of others in the same genre...
Choises between good and evil is as old and older than writing...
Being betrayed, having to choose is ancient, Cain and Able can tell you that...
Samantha however has a twist on this age old battle, one I found entertaining and I am sure it will resonate with most readers.

I am amazed! So many books have been written lately in the Angel genre of good vs. evil that I truly thought this was just going to be the same story only written with a few new twists. Engaging right from the start, this Author surprised me with a fresh new look at being a fallen angel. When being good isn't always about being totally in the light. Where good people go bad, and good people die. It isn't a fantasy land where everything gl...more

Torn is quite simply amazing. Hughes holds your attention from the very first chapter, dangling you with suspense and anticipation.I could literally feel the emotions that Samantha was emenating just pouring off the pages. You really have to feel for Sam as her life as only she knows it is yanked away from her and she's thrown into a battle between light and dark with Samantha being smack dab in the middle. She deals with love, loss, betrayl, grief, and transformation in such a short period of t...more
Torn is the story of Samantha. Like any teenager she struggles with her identity and inner conflicts. She lives a normal life with with her father and foster brothers. All looks good until her father is murdered.
In her grief she discovers she has some special abilities. She doesn't have much control over them, because her emotions change so fast. But when she puts her mind to it she can do some amazing things. She just needs to learn how to get her abilities under control, because she fears losi...more

There is no good way to tell your best friend that her father was a fallen angel and that she is descended from dark and light. She will have to choose a side and hopefully it will be the right choice. Talk about pressure, since her fathers death Sam's life has been spinning out of control. Dark visions, voices in her head that terrify and confuse her though dreaming about her dad makes her feel close to him still but the fear in his voice is almost palpable. Something is coming for her and she...more

I raised an eyebrow or two before I decided to take a stab at this one. Seriously, my genre is non-fiction history. In the past months I've taken a moment and stepped away from the comfort zone to see what else is out there. Some of the books have been really good while others shouldn't have been written. This one falls into the first category.

I Have To Say I Was Really Surprised With This Book. Samantha Is My Favorite One In The Book. When Samantha Lost Her Dad It Was Heartbreaking It Reminded Me Of When I Lost My Mom. I Really Cried Then All This Stuff Started Going On And She Had To Make A Choice Between Light And Dark. This Book Definitely Kept Me On My Toes There Was Never A Dual Moment. It Was An Awesome Book I AM SO Glad I Read It I Absolutely Love Angel Books And This One Was Truly Amazing.
A young girl lost her father, and discovered he was not what she thought. You see, her father, her mother, her foster-brothers, they are angels. And she is one too, a special one at that. Her destiny is to find/keep a box, or to end a millenia wars between good, and evil.Though things are not that simple...

When I read the synopsis of this book, I was like great more angels! ;) Thankfully this book turned out to be absolutely fantastic. It was the typical fallen angel book. Sam is the only hope and her protectors are brothers Ethan and Lucas. Then we get a warning that someone will betray Sam. Let me see right off the bat, I knew just knew who was going to do betray her.. Well I was wrong or at least the person I was hoping it would turn out to be was wrong. He He. The Exhiled Fallen Angels are bad...more
I was gifted a copy from the author for an honest review. This is a series I am sure to follow because I love reading about angels. Ms. Hughes has got my attention on this one. So if angels and demons is something you enjoy reading then pick this book up.
Samantha isn’t allowed to mourn the loss of her father. She’s training on a daily basis and not sure exactly why certain talents are coming out in her. But she hears a voice of someone that is calling to her to join them and it’s getting closer....more

The YA paranormal thriller TORN by Christine Hughes is an excellent, well-written novel, and I was instantly unable to put it down. This highly addictive story begins with action on the very first page and keeps the reader immersed in a whirlwind of mystery, suspense, and romance throughout. I was immediately able to connect with the protagonist, Samantha. Having always thought of herself as a "typical girl", she finds out how very untrue that is after the tragic death of her father. Everything...more
How would you take it if you were suddenly told you were the hinge between right and wrong? The book begins with Samantha's father's last moments and his will to try and send something to her via magic. She has grown up thinking her daddy is a doctor....when really he's a fallen angel. A "bad" angel turned "good" and out to keep the balance of hope. Her mother died when Sam was young so all she had left was her daddy. Her two best friends moved into her house to help her until she turned 18. Bot...more

After reading the synopsis for this book I knew I would enjoy it and I was right. It is a great story and I can't wait to read the next book in the series. Torn is a YA book, but it doesn't necessarily feel like YA to me, so don't let that hold you back from reading it. I really liked Samantha and she is true to the title of the book, torn between light and dark, wanting to be on the side of light but struggling to live with/control the dark. I was given an Advanced Reader Copy of this book by the author in return for an honest review.
This is a fantastic YA paranormal thriller/romance that I fell in love with!
Samantha English thinks she's just another teenager, but she's not. She is a fantastic character, who is confused and upset at the death of her father. However, she finds out that there were secrets kept from her by her father and the two boys in her life, Luke and Ethan; Secrets that completely shatter her world....more

I found that angel books have a high exception of what they are supposed to be like. Most are all "angles are good" and so on. Torn wasn't your average angel book. I really liked Sam and her personal struggle with what she felt and how she acted. She knew what she wanted, even if that wasn't what it seemed like to the others. I enjoyed her personality and she was...relate able. The background and explanation of the angles was wonderfully written. I liked the suspense and you didn't really know h...more

3.5 Stars... This is my first YA book with fallen angels as the theme. I wasn't sure what to expect with them as main characters and was more than happy to give them a try. Torn started exciting right away but then for just a bit was confusing which bogged me down just a tad. There are some flashback scenes in the first few chapters that I had to reread to determine when it exactly it was taking place. But by the middle of the book the story had picked up and really started to move coming to a g...more

Torn is a great book about a 17 yo discovering her life was not what she thought it was. After the death of her father, she is taken to safety by her foster brothers to "train". Although she is not given the why of this, she trains like Laura Croft. This character is very "real" in that, even though she trains like she's going up agains Rocky, she hurts, she crys, she passes out. She is not superhuman. There are several twist and turns that are not predicted, and I really liked that. I think thi...more
Samantha, the average 17-year old, suddenly discovers she’s not that average after all. After her father dies, she finds out things about herself, powers that intrigue her and at the same time scare her out of her pants. Moving into a cabin in the woods with two boys, both deliciously tempting in their very own way, she has to learn to control these powers, train to be ready when it’s time to fight the dark side, and keep this annoying voice of a stranger the hell out of her head...

I’ve always wanted to write. Ever since I was little, I would craft stories and poems but the idea to actually do it “for real” never really crossed my mind until last year. After sitting on three paragraphs of what would eventually become my first novel, I decided to expand upon what I had. At the time I had no real idea of where the story would go, I just knew I had the time to do something with...more
