Whisper (Whisper Trilogy #1)
by
Chelsea M. Cameron (Goodreads Author)
People think I'm crazy. Maybe I am, since I've been able to talk to spirits for as long as I can remember. They are the forgotten, the souls who have unfinished business and can't cross over. I help them, or at least I try to. There's this one in particular, Jack, I call him, who's been following me around a lot. Usually they tell me what they need to do and move on. Not h...more

Celeste’s review: I was intrigued straight away! I’m not usually a huge fan of ghost books, but after reading Ms. Cameron’s Noctalis series I am addicted to her writing…so I went into this with high expectations.
Non-spoiler summary: Anna can hear spirits speak to her, but she hears them only in her head. In order for them to hear her she has to talk out loud. Mo...more

I stumbled across this book when browsing ebooks and ended up buying it. I enjoyed the story but the characters drove me crazy! Annabelle can see and hear dead people who need her help to cross over. Her parents are quick to put her on drugs that basically turn her into a zombie because they think she has mental issues. Her best friend calls her parents to tattle that Annabelle has been talking to herself (actually ghosts) which causes her parents to freak. Annabelle's ghost "mentor", Jack, can...more

Whisper is a sweet YA story about girl meets boy, boy is dead, girl and boy fall in love and have to figure out how to make it work. Oh yeah, and help other lost souls and keep people from thinking girl is crazy and having her institutionalized. Standard stuff. ;-)

Whisper by Chelsea M. Cameron is about a girl, Anna, who can hear the dead. She's been able to do it all her life. Unfortunately, her parents don't believe her. They think she's nuts. Anyways, one night a dead guy starts bugging her. He doesn't act like the other spirits she's encountered. Meaning he has no interest in crossing over. She nicknames him Jack. When he brings her the victim of a local hit-and-run, a girl named Tracy, Anna knows there is something definitely different about Jack.

Cover - Nice 3.5 out of 5
Favorite Line - "Libraries were like churches for me. As far as i was concerned, the secret to happiness could be found in a library."
Favorite Character - Jack
You know, sometimes i wish i could bitch slap fictional characters. Not Anna but some of the others in the book for sure.
I liked this book it was interesting & well written. The story was quite dark at times & always very emotional.
I am not a big fan of ghost books & i am not a YA but i still enjoyed...more

If you like ghost type stories- especially for those that like the TV show Ghost Whisperer- this is the book for you.
Anna can hear the dead and finds that she needs to help them on their way. When a new dead guy named Jack comes along, he does not want to be helped on his way and instead makes plan to stick around for a long time. Unfortunately for Anna, there is the problem that Jack becomes more and more appealing the longer he stays. When she is found talking to thin air, her parents medicate...more

I've read books by this author and was blown away, this one did not disappoint! The story was amazing and how Annabelle was faced with so many problems from betrayal from friends and family, being put on meds because she can do things other people can't and falling in love with a ghost that 'what he seems. The love in this story is well paced and believable. 'Jack' is amazing, hes sweet and tough depending on what Annabelle to get through everything she has to deal with but also needs to do. All...more
(this is really a 3 1/2 star rating - oh Goodreads why can't I give half stars?!)
This was a fast paced, compelling read - I just HAD to find out what was going to happen to Anna. The characters were so realistically drawn that I spent most of the book vacillating between wanting to punch Anna's parents and wanting to shake Anna for being so nice and forgiving. Forgive her friend? HELL NO! Forgive her mother? HELLS NO SQUARED. LOL - it's been a while since I've felt so strongly about fictional pe...more

I was seriously pissed off a lot throughout this book. Not cause the book was bad in any way but cause of the parents in this story. God, I wanted to hurt them :(. I cried, I got mad, and I felt for her. I seriously went through a lot of emotions for this book.
But it was addicting and I stayed up later than usual to finish the book.

I absolutely loved Whisper. I am so happy to have found another book like Meg Cabot's The Mediator series so that I will have another set of books to read once I finish Meg Cabot's series. The main character, Anna, is completely loveable and makes the story feel very genuine. I really appreciated that Chelsea Cameron really let the book go down a dark path, because she could have easily made it a light, heartfelt read. It really puts the cherry on top when a book can make me physically show emot...more
I liked the characters, which is the most important part of the story, at least to me. I felt for Annabelle and her struggles with her family, her abilities and depression. I look forward to reading more about her and her world. I was lucky to meet author Chelsea M. Cameron at a book signing, and her humor and intelligence reminded me a lot of Annabelle.
