3.75 Stars... I had a little difficulty in rating this book. The beginning was excellent and I immediately connected to the characters. But as the story progressed, it became a bit monotonous and left me wanting more. Although this story was sweet and interesting, and I read through it rather quickly, I felt it ultimately did not live up to the intensity level promised by its intriguing beginning. That said, I did very much enjoy this book.

One of the sweetest romances I have ever read.
A story so beautifully written. A man and a woman unable to contain the love they have for each other. The absolute pain of the forced separation. A trick of destiny submitting them to constant torture but nonetheless bringing them together. Nina and Kevin. A love so heartfelt stripped of annoying situations usually encountered elsewhere. Her voice brought them together. And her voice reunited them once more.Beautiful.

Wow. That hit me harder then I expected. I was a little uncomfortable at the beginning of the story - I've read a few of the teacher/student love stories - but none of them had this kind of age gap and it took me a while to work past it. That said, I think it actually added a lot to the story. It allowed me to feel just a little bit of the strain that Kevin and Nina felt. I loved Nina. Without a doubt she was far more mature than her years. Half the time I felt like she was handling everything w...more
Ya leí tres libros más sobre EXACTAMENTE la misma historia (Losing it , When Summer Ends y Teach Me) . Aparentemente es el mes de "Amar al profesor"
Hasta ahora , este es el mas tierno y él más creible .

A nice love story about what the mind tells you is wrong and the heart screams about what is so right. This is the first book that I read by this author and I have to say that I enjoyed it. I held my breath a few points. The author really did a good job at getting across Kevin's struggle with his feelings for Nina and her age. I actually felt his struggle thru the authors words.
I read the low notes because it was suggested to me by a friend who has read many other books I have enjoyed. The plot of the story was good and the characters were easy to get connected to from the start of the book. I really liked how the characters seemed new and different and it was apparent that the author had spent time making sure the reader felt like they knew both Kevin and Nina. I felt like the large age gap between Kevin and Nina added emotion to the struggle of a teacher student rela...more
I give this book 3.5 stars. Here's why. The book started off with so much promise to be something so much more than it became. It reminded my of the book Slammed in its on way. Towards the end, the author seemed to have rushed to complete the book, which in conclusion she left out thoughts and ideas that would have blown the reader away. I did somewhat enjoy it, and I do recommend that others give it a try to judge for themselves. If you read and liked slammed, you may read and like this book as...more
I loved this book. I totally felt for Nina and Kevin as they struggled with how to deal with their feelings for one another in their precarious situation. When Kevin first sees Nina singing at a club he's immediately drawn to her. They talk after she finishes her set and her asks her out on a date. At the end of their date they know that there is something special between them that goes deeper than mere attraction. They kiss goodnight, go their separate ways both looking forward to seeing each o...more
This was a really engrossing spin on student/teacher relationships. It was so romantic that I felt a little conflicted reading it because naturally it's against the law for teachers to engage in romantic relationships with students! But Nina is a very likable, admirable main character. It's very easy as a reader to believe that a 17-year-old girl who has been left to take care of herself would seek out a mature relationship with a man not too much older than her who seems very eager to emotional...more
You know the best thing about not knowing anything about a book before you actually start reading it? The utter joy when it’s not what you thought it would be because it’s so much better.
When Kevin and Nina first meet, I was reminded of when Allie and Noah first met in The Notebook. I know it’s a pretty bold statement, but it’s the way it came across to me. It might have been Nina’s original nonchalant demeanor, or Kevin’s eager text message, but something about these two characters together had...more

OMG I LOVED this book!!!! It reminded me a little of Slammed - which I also love - just without the really sad parts.
Basically, this book was pure perfection!
Kevin moves into his old family home after his father dies. One night he goes to a local bar where Nina happens to be performing. He falls in love instantly. Completely head over heels/love at first sight, etc. He picks her up and pretty soon they go on an amazingly perfect first date. After that first date Nina is totally smitten as well...more

It was everything it should've been
Everything it would've been
Had we met another day
You're so charming and amusing, see
Blinding me with fantasy
Now the cruelest joke's on me
Can I wait
Can I be strong
Can I change your mind
With a song
Now it's nothing like it could've been
We are nothing like we should've been
But I'm glad we met that day
When it's meant to be,
it's meant to be.
It feels right and easy.
Don't let me go,
just say you'll stay,
all I need is one more day.

Okay, so it wasn't horrible. It really wasn't but....... Jesus Freaking Nina's a whiney cow. 'Nobody care about me waahhh' yer that whole thing got really old really fast. She got herself into her own situations sometimes but of course it's the worlds fault not hers. The guy decides to try and cut it off with her because, well let's see, he has a lot of shit going on too. He loves her but come on it has to be stressful. So how does she react? Like a whiney bitch. I really did like this book it was a nice book to read while at work. I was not all the excited about the ending at all. After reading a 72 chapter book you would think by the time you get to the ending we could have at least gotten an epilogue you know to really finish off the book unless there will be a book 2. The ending felt rushed and kinda put together. Now dnt get me wrong I did like the book just wasn't a fan of the ending thought it could been better seeing how they really loved each ot...more
You certainly wouldn't know this is a first novel as it's sensitively written to explore a topic that is just so hard to figure out - when is love right, when it is worth fighting for and when it is just lust or us trying to entertain ourselves. I loved this book and I felt like as the novel went on Kate really hit her stride. After I got into it there wasn't a moment I wanted to put it down and didn't. It inspired me to read more and write more as I felt lighter and inspired after watching the...more
A huge disappointment. I love teacher/student romances, but this was just plain boring. The worst thing however is the way it's written. I have read fanfiction stories that are better written than this novel. The characters are totally flat and one-dimensional. There are hardly any emotions in this novel and to be honest, the teacher/student aspect isn't all that prominent if you really think about it. Kev, who's the teacher and ergo the adult, acts childishly - especially towards the end when h...more
If you liked Slammed by Colleen Hoover then you will LOVE The Low Notes. One word: Drraaaama!
Man! I really hate to use the term, but this was an emotional roller coaster! We're talking 0 G-force, puke inducing, hang on to your ass roller coaster! I think with this subject matter and kind of conflict (teacher-student) you're bound to have melodrama, but this was almost too much. Almost.
Nina and Kevin meet in a similar fashion to how Layken and Will meet in Slammed...namely, the subject of age or...more

This was a sweet albeit tortured romance read. I enjoyed it in parts and in the ultimate conclusion, as i wasn't sure how i'd feel about it at first. I don't like the whole teacher student thing really as it creeps me out, although i loved Slammed by Colleen Hoover (yet he was only 3 years older than her). Kevin being significantly older and Nina being 17 freaked me out at first, but with Nina i never really felt like she was 17 maturity wise.

Okay, I just finished it and I think I need to pour out some lovin' with this book. At first, I find the book a bit to slow first and frustrating because of the characters BUT I started to adore Nina's courage. What more I like about this book is I'm actually excited and always looking forward for her to sing in 'The Black Jewel' and Monday's with Kevin. Well, I'm adding a new shelves for re-read books and one of the reason is this book. I love love this. I hope I can see more of Kate Roth's wor...more
I absolutely loved this book! The chemistry between the main characters Kevin & Nina is electric. And who doesn't love forbidden romance? The main characters meet and have an instant connection only to find out that Kevin is her teacher. They struggle to stay away from each other, to keep others from finding out, and they deal with realistic personal problems too. Kate Roth spins an enthralling story. I can't wait to read more from her!
I though this book was not only well written, but it captured the emotions from both the protagonist and the male lead perfectly. I loved the raw feelings in this. The whole teacher/student affair thing is becoming pretty common, yet this hit the mark. The interactions, the love, the sexual tension - it was all there and it made this a wonderful book! Worth the money!
I really loved this book!! Was not sure what to expect when I started on it but it really exceeded my expectations. I was immediately drawn to both the main characters, Kevin and Nina. It was a tender and touching love story and my only complain was that the ending was a little abrupt. I would love to read more about Kevin and Nina. Good work Kate Roth...
