I've been a fan of Kate Wilhelm since I first read Where Late the Sweet Birds Sang (1976), so when I discovered her very first published book (1962), I had to read it. As an exemplar of the "woman in peril" mystery genre, it's not bad, but it's certainly not what I've come to expect from Wilhelm. The mystery is well-sustained, and honestly provides enough clues throughout to identify the murderer. What disappoints is the weakness of the woman in peril.
