I've been struggling to write this review for days, collecting my thoughts and, I confess, trying to find a reason to raise my 3-star rating. Sadly, I found none. :( 3 stars isn't bad in my rating scale, but I'm not used to giving Ms. Balogh less than 4 stars. I love her writing and the romantic feel she always evokes in me when I read her books, but alas, I'm disappointed to say that she missed the mark in this one.

Simply Unforgettable is the 1st installment in the Simply series, a qu More...

I am such a romance junkie and none of it really holds a candle to Outlander which is how I judge all. Some have been really good while others start out promising and flop. This is one such story. It is romantic that they are caught in the snow storm and forced to stay at an empty inn together (an in which is closed). Francis ends up cooking while Lucius cuts wood and does the more hard labor chores.

Their time together there quickly develops into a mutual liking of one another and pass More...

It was enjoyable, but I'm just going to say that I "liked it" based on the fact that it really wasn't that original. I was in the mood for a love story, which this definitely is, but it's just like any other English romance from another time when words like "ton" and "rake" and "dandy" were used far too much. Really it can be summed up like this:

Man and woman are desperately attracted to each other and in love, but they act like they hate each More...

I'm probably being a little hard on this book, but seriously....how many times did he have to offer to marry her while she refused him before the author even bothered to explain WHY she couldn't marry him? Maybe she was trying to increase tension, but as I've said many, many, many times before (broken record), withholding information does not create tension. Just the opposite -- it's annoying. If I'd known her problem, I might have been able to sympathize with her. Instead, I had to assume she w More...

I listened to this on unabridged audio and was very quickly bored and easily distracted. It's a shame because Balogh is usually one of my go-to author's when I'm in a slump.

This book was so disappointing in so many ways. It's full of cliches and ridiculous behavior. You have the virgin schoolmarm who is beautiful but doesn't know it and the high society rake who must marry a high born lady to pacify his granddaddy. These two conveniently get stranded together (without chaperone) durin More...

Simply Unforgettable is the first book in the Simply series by Mary Balogh.

Francis Allard is a teacher at Miss Martin's school in Bath. If you have read the Slightly series you will recognize this as the school that Freyja Bedwyn patronizes. She is mentioned in this book but only as the anonymous patron who supports the school.

Francis meets Lucius Marshall during a snowstorm and they spend two passionate days together at an inn waiting for the snow to melt. After the st More...

Pardon the pun, but this book was "simply forgettable" for me [2.5 stars:]

The first in Mary Balogh's Simply Quartet, SIMPLY UNFORGETTABLE was unfortunately not so for me. I am a huge Mary Balogh fan, but this is my least favorite book of hers and I actually had to stop myself from skimming parts at the end (which is just unheard of for me). Meanwhile, I have continued on to the second book of the Quartet, Simply Love, and found that book highly enjoyable - I recommend just More...

Stranded with a handsome stranger! Anyone see a problem there? I have to admit it would be no trouble at all for me! I have been reading this collection as I find them so out of order I already know what most outcomes are. Not to mention the Balough has a tendency to follow along the same story lines, locations and details. This is one of the reasons I live to grab one of her stories. Its almost like you are taking a trip to visit familiar friends and places. Not to mention the humor she throws More...

I'am a fan of Mary Balogh, and all of her books that I have read thus far, that being said I enjoyed this book but the heroine Francois Allard drove me crazy. I understand there has to be some conflict and drama, yet this woman was an absolute idiot in my opinion. She had several chances for love and happiness, yet she kept throwing them away because at first she didnt believe Viscount Lucious Sinclair really loved her. Well when she discovered he really did she still refused him based on pro More...

I’m not sure what exactly it is, but Simply Unforgettable just wasn’t simply unforgettable, or as good as the novels of the Slightly series, published prior to this selection. It might have to do with the fact that the two books in the series I’m most looking forward to are the two dealing with Anne Jewell and Claudia Martin, two of the teachers at Ms. Martin’s school for girls (mentioned in the Bedwyn books). Once introduced to characters in past reads, I’m obsessed with reading their own love More...

I actually enjoyed this one, even though the reviews here were not that great among my GR friends.
I loved the way Lucius did not give up on Francis even though he should have. She was a bit much on the good byes however. I loved the way Lucius (again with the stupid names) set down the woman everyone thought he was supposed to marry. I wanted to applaud him and yell HAH! take that beotch!
Well at last now I can finally read the one I had been waiting for.. Simply Love It all has to d More...

The best of the Simply Quartet. This is a novel unlike the others.
This is the last book I read of this series and I am very unhappy that I didn't get a chance to read it before now. To put it simply, this is packed with sizzling romance and I loved every part of it.

Firstly, I did not like the way the novel started. For the first 30 pages or so I flipped through the pages and passages without really reading. Then when Mr. Marshall came to picture, I thought... Oh another Slightly More...

A giant 'meh' from me. The whole 'snowed in' device is a guilty pleasure of mine, so I was trying to go with it but...meh. I quite liked Frances, and would have liked here more had I not been so frustrated by her deep dark secret that I didn't learn about until the very end, when it was waved aside (as it should have been)--would have connected a bit more to her had I been given an inkling of it. Lucius I didn't like at all. Sure, he cares about his family, but he's a complete jerk otherwise More...

What went wrong in this book? Well, other than the indecision on both the hero and heroine's part, possibly nothing.

A prim schoolteacher with a voice of an angel and the rakish viscount who is currently purposely searching for a bride.. a relationship never seemed feasible. That is not only for their differing social standing, but personalities clashed at every meeting. That is, until the sparks sizzled the air between them, when circumstances left them is a situation where a one-ni More...

This book is the beginning of a new series about 4 teachers of a girl's school. It's loosely connected with the Bedwyn's as the school has an anonymous benefactor that we know from previous books that it's Freyja Bedwyn.

Balogh uses a well known plot device in several of her books. She brings the hero and heroine together during a storm (or a similar event) and leaves them stranded in an inn somewhere for a number of days during which they proceed to fall in love. It seems to me she i More...

The Simply books as a whole were great. I say this even though Susanna's story bored me so much I put the book down half way through. The others were good enough to make up for that. Especially the second one- Anne's story- Simply Love-what a great book. The only problem with this book was the Big Misunderstanding. It was kinda silly for Frances to keep it from Lucius for so long. I really enjoyed how they got together at the beginning during the snow storm. Very cute first meet.

this book is wonderfully wrote. I am really enjoying her stories. I always enjoy reading about this century when life so much different. Today it seems we have lost our traditions and manners. Even though these days we can marry anyone we want I am sure there is still a population of aristocrats somewhere who have to choose certain class of people. These days it never seems to be that way. I love reading about ones who choose love instead of family or class.

I often read paranormal romance, but this weekend I thought I would try something a little different. I am most delighted to say that I throughly enjoyed Mary Balogh's masterpiece and intend on reading the rest of her books in this series. Nothing says love like a man, Lucious Marshall, saying that her love, Frances Allard, is Simply Unforgettable. And it will be a very long time before I forget what a wonderful love story was told. 5 stars.

I'm on to my second series of Mary Balogh's work and hope this one measures up to the Bedwyn Saga. At least, there are still mentions of them in this one. Interesting take on what it means to be of blood or just loved, nature vs. nurture for the heroine.

A very forward thinking hero in this one. I also like Mary Balogh's trick of referencing minor characters in a work that were prominent characters in previous books.

I'll keep reading this series.

I wasn't sure if I would like this book b/c it follows the Bedwyn family saga and they are not really in this book, mentioned a few times. The book was long, but I found that I really did like it.

Viscount Sinclair or Lucius Marshall and Frances Allard made a convincing couple and I was soon drawn into their story. We were also introduced to the other teachers at the girl's school in Bath.

A very good start to the Simply series.

Although I read this one second, it is actually #1 in the Simply series. A reader of Balogh automatically sees all the connections between the characters in this grouping and those in the Slightly series. The scene where they dance a waltz in an empty assembly room is very romantic. The sub story of Frances's life prior to her meeting Lucius Marshall is a bit redundant, but it is not such a big deal in the scope of the story.
