All I can say is...Wow! This is what Twilight wanted to be, I think. It was published in 1990 and so the themes are a bit dated (no emails, cellphones etc.), but it didn't rob the story of anything. I finished the slim novel in a day and a half. I couldn't help but compare the two characters with those of "Twilight." The heroine, Zoe, was flawed and insecure but focused and honest. The vampire, Simon, was "beautiful" but his physical attributes were not brought up every few p More...

Zoe is wary when, in the dead of night, the beautiful yet frightening Simon comes to her house. Simon seems to understand the pain of loneliness and death and Zoe's brooding thoughts of her dying mother. Simon is one of the undead, a vampire, seeking revenge for the gruesome death of his mother three hundred years before. Does Simon dare ask Zoe to help free him from this lifeless chase and its insufferable loneliness?

Hmmm... after reading Blood and Chocolate, I was expecting this o More...

I liked Annette Curtis Klause's The Silver Kiss better than the much more known and beloved Blood and Chocolate (I know people who read it as many times as once a year). The feelings of loss and loneliness that 'Silver' wears are what they are, (an overlying emotional reality that can overwhelm everything else, yes, but is not EVERYTHING) and not an offensive to everything I both believe and want need (or want need) to believe "True understanding and connection of another are impossible" More...

Ehhh....this was a little clumsy, and definitely read like a first novel, but it is apparently a classic of the teen vampire genre. I liked some of the dramatic language and scenes, and especially Simon and Zoe's first kiss, but it never really lead anywhere. Also, I got totally bored when Simon started telling his origin story...it went on forever.

Simon is the last thing Zoё expects to enter her life. Trying to cope with her mother’s illness and the inattention of her grief-stricken father, Zoё mechanically goes through her daily routine of school and returning to the solitude of her empty house, always waiting for the phone call informing her about her mother’s death. But when she sees the silver boy at the park and later downtown, she allows herself to get caught up in another’s past and pain.

After centuries of hunting, Simo More...

in a sentence: Zoe's really hit the trifecta - her mom is terminally ill with cancer, her best friend is moving away, and she met (was stalked by) a sexy vampire named Simon.

Zoe spends a lot of her time alone due to her mother being in the hospital and her dad spending time with her mom or trying to catch up on work when he's not dutifully at her hospital bedside. consequently, Zoe is rather withdrawn, doesn't eat much, and begins to feel pretty sorry for herself. and her best friend More...

I hadn't really expected much out of The Silver Kiss because it seems like some people just don't like it all that much. I tend to agree with the crowd, but not on this one.

Simon is a three hundred year old vampire, out to avenge his mother's death when he meets Zoe, a sad teenage girl whose life seems to be falling apart. The two connect and it's like a Twilight prequel. Sort of.

Honestly, there were things entirely too similar to Twilight (but this came first, so Twil More...

The first of it's kind -- a teen vampire love story. In that respect I did like the story, the concepts were intriguing and an easy story to follow. I did find it quite dated however, very 90s lit. The author also seemed like she was a teen herself in some respects..the story felt a little young and undeveloped.

Some things that bothered me: Zoe is basically anorexic, but no one really says anything about it. Her mother is dying and she is trying to accept death with the help of Simo More...

Zoë’s life is falling apart; her mother is dying of cancer and her best friend, Lorraine, is moving away. She's a typical teenager dealing with terrible issues. So when mysterious Simon comes along, Zoë who is feeling lonely and isolated is drawn to the darkness that surrounds him.

Simon is dark and basically scary as hell. He not only carries the traditional vampire aspects, but can easily become mist moving with the air. Being mist carries its dangers for Simon, as he can become lost More...

I can honestly say i LOVED this book! I could NOT put it down! The Silver Kiss by Annette Curtis Klause was a book i could not put down, a book that involved a mythological creature(the vampire) famous among our small tales and short stories today that involved a fight between the vampire and his "younger brother" quote, quote, but had also involved a love between the eldest brother (Simon) and a girl named by Zoe. Now in books involving mythological creatures with love between a vampi More...

This book stumbles between two very different plot lines. First there is the very real and sympathetic story of a young girl dealing with her mother's impending death by cancer. Then there is the completely fantastic good verse bad vampire story. Throughout the book I kept looking for the point where they would come together, but it never happened. Even the ending felt hollow.

As for romance, there wasn't really any to be found. The characters kissed but there was no real relat More...

For 350 years, Simon has led a shadowed existence, so used to hiding in plain sight that even speaking his name to another seems too intimate. But that changes when his pursuit of the figure from his past responsible for all his pain leads him to Zoë, a 16-year-old whose mother is dying, father is growing increasingly distant, and best friend is moving away. Inexplicably drawn to this similarly tortured soul, Simon risks revealing his true self to find the ally he needs to gain retribution, mean More...

Remember those young adult books from the early 1990's? Even the ones from the late 1980's? Remember how sometimes they could just be so cheesy and over the top? Now imagine finding a book like that and stepping back in time with the writing. That is how I felt when I was reading this book.

While the plot was interesting and I found the characters to be okay, the writing of the book made me feel like I was reading a young adult book from a different time. Don't get me wrong More...

Zoe's life has been turned upside down. Her mother is in the hospital, dying from cancer. Her father, who spends most of his time at the hospital, is distant and distracted during the few minutes he has to spend with Zoe, and they communicate mostly through notes pinned to the fridge door. She misses her mother very much, but her visitation times are limited, so in effect, Zoe feels like she's lost both parents. And to make things worse, her best (and only) friend Lorraine is moving to another s More...

I got this book because it was written by the author who wrote "Blood and Chocolate" (which I haven't read yet). I was interested to read a vampire novel by her. It was an excellent book but it was not what I was expecting.

In this book Zoe is in a tough situation. Her mother is dying of cancer, her father is pulling away from her as he spends more and more time at the hospital with her mother. The doctor has told them that Zoe shouldn't spend much time at the hospital because More...

I loved that book. It took me a day and a half to read it, it was so captivating. There was no slow moment, everything felt important to the story. I saw some shocking similarities to Twilight, especially in vampire Simon who often thinks the way Edward would, but it was written in 1990, so if anything, Meyer is to blame for the similarities. But those similarities didn't make this story seem like a pre-Twilight or whatever you want to call it. The plot itself is much different, even with the va More...

This story by Annette Curtis Klause entwines the two stories of Zoe and Simon, chapter by chapter. We start with Zoe - a lonely girl who is struggling with the steady decline of her mother to cancer and the loss of her best friend who is moving to a new city. She feels lost and unloved, and as though no one can understand her grief and pain. Enter Simon, one of the undead. A vampire who has flitted from city to city in pursuit of his monstrous brother, also a vampire. Simon struggles against his More...

Stupid me, I read the Introduction by the author before reading the book itself, and damn her she ruined the end of the book for me (okay so if you're going to write an 'introduction' it would be a good idea NOT TO SPOIL THE END OF THE BOOK!). Having said that, I really enjoyed her Introduction. I warmed to the author instantly, as she reminded me alot of myself and the peculiar obsessions I have with fictional characters I have created hehe.

The book wasn't bad. I just want to say that More...

The Silver Kiss usually turns most people off by its title, but it was quite an amazing book. At first, it may seem as if the writing isn't so great, but keep on with it, you'll find yourself wanting to read it all the time.
Zoe is going through a major chrisis in her life. Her mother is dying. Zoe can only watch in helplessness as she is eaten away by cancer, and leaves a withered, pale shell of what her mother once was. The problem is, father won't even let Zoe see her mother. S More...

I found Zoe to be a very interesting character. From the beginning you see that she is struggling in life...dealing with her mother's impending death. She then finds out that her best friend Lorraine is moving to Oregon. So not only is Zoe left to deal with her mother's illness, but now she's losing the only other person that she truly cares about.

Zoe struggles with proving to her father that she's not a little kid anymore, and that she can handle seeing her mother, regardless of how More...

I am truly loathe to call this romance. It's a YA vampire story, again, suggested by the YA librarian at my local library. This was a disappointing read. The plot was heavy and mostly depressing with very little levity all the way through to the end.

The best point I could make about this book is that the human characters are very realistic. They each have their own goals and personalities and they're not just carbon copy clones of secondary characters. On the down side, because of t More...

A while ago, I read Blood and Chocolate by Klause, and while I really did not enjoy that book that much, I was captivated by the excerpt at the end of the story. I read the only heavenly bit of The Silver Kiss that was allowed to me at the end of Blood and Chocolate. Since then, I’d been searching for The Silver Kiss so I could read it and sate my curiosity. Luckily, I have the kind of friends that read that sort of book, so I was happy when I got to borrow the book from a friend. I began readin More...

Ok, Zoe is completely distraught because her mother is dying of cancer, and it's completely changed her father, etc etc. Zoe is now almost always alone, her friends can't relate, she can't talk to her father because he's so preoccupied with what's happening to her mother, and life just REALLY SUCKS. Enter Simon, the cute vampire who starts stalking her. O_o When she gets over the creepiness of being stalked, the romance starts. But it's a rather disappointing ending if you ask me.

I read this book for this first time when I was fifteen years old. I wrote a paper on it as a school project. (It was a "pick your own book" type of thing.) I have always had a taste for the darker side of literature, vampires and such so I figured this book was right up my alley. I got so much more than I bargained for.

This book is written with the dual narratives of Simon and Zoe. Zoe is constantly alone because her father is always visiting her terminally ill mother in the hospital. Not only is Zoe frightened to see her mother in such a state, it seems that both her mother and father has shut her out during this difficult time. She feels ashamed that she is complaining about not having anyone around her while her mother is wasting away in the hospital. Simon is also very much alone. He is a 300 year old vamp More...

Zoe is alone. Her mother is dying of cancer, her father is consumed by his grief and his wife's suffering, and Lorraine, Zoe's best friend, is moving away. Zoe is alone with her pain and her anger, not even allowed to visit her mother in the hospital. Simon is also alone. A centuries-old vampire trapped in a hopeless, endless quest.
