As period romance junk food goes, a pleasant read with less cliched characters than I expected. I picked this book up confusing the writer with a different author, and although I seldom read this kind of romance, I actually enjoyed it quite a bit because of the heroine's--and the writer's--sense of wry humor.

Synopsis: When fortune smiles on actress Letty Potts in the form of a train ticket to the village of Little Bidewell, Letty, on the run from a villainous suitor, has no trouble i More...

Fun read... light, witty, banter with a twist of Cockney, musical actresses, acrobats, and con men. Oh, and a delicious, honorable gentleman who starts as a "Sir" and becomes a "Lord" (baron).

Letty Potts is simply trying to escape Nick Sharpe, a con man she's fallen in with as she tried to make her way in the musical theatre. Letty is the by-blow of a viscount who wouldn't acknowledge her. Letty's mother, Veda, was a skilled seamstress, who More...

Her glare cut off his words as effectively as a muzzle. “If you dare tell me you are a simple country gentleman again, I shall...I shall...I don’t know what I shall do, but it will be very, very, loud!”

Letty is down on her luck. While she has some nobility in her blood, she’s been living as a theater girl all her life. She excels in singing, dancing and acting. When Letty snatches up a wedding planner’s train ticket, she ends up falling into the role of said wedding planner and is imm More...

Absolutely on my top FAVORITE ROMANCE BOOKS OF ALL TIME!!! I laughed, cried, swooned, ached...it was everything a book should be & more! I literally couldn't put it down! Both hero & heroine are equally lovable & irresistible! I absolutely fell in love with every character in this book that goes for the dog & the Little Bidewell itself! Very engaging from beginning to the end! I cannot say enough about my utter LOVE for this book! It's like my little Christmas present from Ms. Brockway! She' More...

Funny very funny. Letty is charming and knows how to hold her own. I could not put this one down and kept waking my hubby by laughing. Very fun.

My all-time favorite romance novel.
Yes, the new tag means I'm re-reading it, again. Deal with it, it's that good.

What a fun and touching book. An unemployed actress/singer on the run from a man she has helped, in the past, with con games, finds an abandoned train ticket and winds up mistaken for the wedding planner who left it behind. As she positions herself to get as much out of the situation as possible, she finds herself becoming more and more emotionally entwined with the people she meets in the small community where the wedding will take place. They love her and, much to her chagrin, she loves them, More...

This is one of those books that I have to recommend to everyone, it was so good. Letty is an amazing heroine; she is very funny, enthusiastic, sweet and resourceful. She never lets anything get her down for long. Elliot is a very worthy hero...he is generous and has a depth of emotion that a lot of male characters seem to lack. This is such a fun book; I'm considering reading it again very soon.

The Bridal Season - Poor
Connie Brockway
Attempting to elude her occasional partner in crime, Nick Sparkle, music hall performer Letty Potts found freedom at the Paddington train station in the form of a ticket to Little Bidewell originally purchased by Lady Agatha Whyte, a wedding coordinator hired by the Bigglesworth family. Upon arriving in Little Bidewell, Letty is immediately mistaken by the Bigglesworths for Lady Agatha, and before she realizes what's happening, Letty finds herse More...

YES! I loved this book! It had a sense of humor that really tickled me! Yes, again, improbable plot, but I dunno, something about the main character and her hubris and heart really drew me in. I was rooting for her, and most of the ladies in historical romances make me want to slit my wrists. I really REALLY enjoyed this book, and thus recommend it!

I loved this romance, despite the mistaken identity ruse (which can be painful in other books) but because of the wonderfully drawn characters! I adored Letty and Elliot, especially their explosive first kiss which gave good wrist tingles! And the use of the side characters' observations enhanced the comedy.

Another good book that took a while to get where it was going - this ended up a very strong 4.5* but not quite a 5* read. I do love stories where the heroine has the willpower and the strength to pull herself out of a bad situation and create a better life, and I knew that was going to happen eventually (this is a romance story, after all), but it didn't really 'drag me in' until chapter 10. After that, it was like a train going downhill! Letty's emotional and moral journey was so very believabl More...

This was an enjoyable story. I liked Letty's background. I also liked how the chemistry between Letty and Elliot was apparent to everyone. I did think the ending was preposterous and overly dramatic.

I wanted so much to like this book because it sounds good but Brockway made the fatal mistake of trying to write a witty character. When this fails it's a catagory: Epic.

Saying a character is witty and clever and then never giving any evidence to it is my pet peeve. It's such a let down. Don't get me wrong, it is HARD to write. Humor really is the hardest genre and witty dialogue takes talent. I get this. But if you can't do it, don't do it.

A light, entertaining romance, with well-drawn characters. I liked how the hero acted when he learned the truth about the heroine, that the author didn't use it to make him the typical spiteful-hurt guy.
HERO is a Leader, cool and conservative, intent on improving justice, who falls passionately in love with a musical theater singer impersonating a lady.

Total fluff and nothing more. It's all very silly and was a rather mindless way to occupy myself for a couple hours. I liked the heroine - an actress! and occasional criminal! disguised as a wedding planner! - and the plot, which was very ridiculous and very sweet. Quite charming, really, if not particularly memorable.

This book was great. The first part in particular was absolutely stunning: I laughed out loud nearly all the time. Connie Brockway just knows how to write, how to be funny...
And Eliott, oh Eliott, if I wasn't already married I would accept you myself. :-)

I am going to go with a lighter read for my next book. I need to go back and forth between heavy murderous reads to light and fluffy!
