I honestly struggle to make it cover-to-cover through church books. I'd rather topic study and move on, but I read this in a couple of days this week as I found myself absorbed in learning all I could about the temple. President Packer is good about citing sources and referring you on to specific scriptures and talks. After finishing the book, I read sections in the Doctrine & Covenants and the entire Pearl of Great Price to help supplement the points he made. The book is definitely worth yo...more

This is one of the most influential books I've ever read. I read it to learn more about the temple and prepare for when I would go for the first time. Not only did I learn and prepare, but a great desire to do family history work grew inside of me. Since I've read this book I have found hundreds of ancestors and have done a lot of temple work for them. I have also connected to long-lost cousins and have learned more about my family. I highly recommend this book to any member of the LDS chur...more

I read this years ago in an effort to help spiritually prepare myself before I went to the temple for the first time. I'm so grateful that I read it prayerfully and with care as I prepared to enter into the sacred house of the Lord. It filled my heart with love and peace and pure testimony that the spiritual work of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ happens within The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints as well as in His Holy temples.

One of the best things I liked about this book is that you can use it as a standard - if Pres. Packer doesn't talk about it in here, then you don't talk about it outside the temple. That being said it is pretty broad in things it talks about but stays in the generalities -- so much more of a doctrine based book.
When I worked in Pres Bednar's office this is the book they gave from BYUI to employees' children who were getting married.

I read this book as I prepared to go to the temple and receive the Endowment. It was a fabulous book and I feel it prepared me to enter the temple more than anything else (including my Temple Prep class). I will definitely have my children read this book as they prepare to enter the temple, too.

One of my favorite books on the temple of the Lord. It's been helpful in giving me things to think about when I attend a session. I would recommend this to anyone preparing to enter the temple for the first time, or anyone who has ever gone to the temple! Love it!

This was one of the best books I've ever read! Packer is easy to understand, and offers insights into how important Temple work is through seemingly simple stories. It was wonderful. I was sucked into this book. It wouldn't let me put it down.

Excellent overview of why temples are necessary and important. President Boyd K. Packer describes in as much detail as is appropriate why we have temples, what occurs inside the temple and how we can properly prepare to enter the House of the Lord. It is required reading for anyone interested in why The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is so prolific in its temple building program (and has been since the days of Joseph Smith). To the scholar, the book provides excellent information a...more

I really appreciated the insights of President Packer into temples, the endowment and our purpose in being actively engaged in ordinance work.

So far this book is a page turner, really. I just have to put it down because my head starts to hurt from thinking to much.

Can you give less than a 5-star review for a book written by a General Authority? But, yes, it was a 5-star book nonetheless.

I read this before I went to the temple for the first time. It was a tremendously thoughtful reflection on God's house.

I like Boyd K. Packer's scriptural references and it helped me prepare to go to the temple of the first time.

I read this as preparation for going to the temple; I'm sure I'd get more out of it if I read it again now.
