Shelves: young-adult, book
I originally got this book since it reminded me of yet another book that I had read when I was younger but of course it wasn't even close to that book with the exception of Jews and Prague as well as a boy whose world gets flipped while he has to fight to survive in it. And the sad thing is that I wanted to like it but didn't.

The writing first of all is simple and easy to understand so for parents who are alright with the reading of the book since of violence it would make a great bridge book.

Excellent children's book that my son was required to read for 7th grade Humanities class. His troubles come from trying to help his family. His happiness and sorrow/tragedy, as well as maturity, come from his punishment. This book is a great choice for introducing the plight of the Jews through history a ...more

This was a good look at a peasant boy's life in sixteenth century Bohemia, and to get a sense of the very little control over ones life a person had.

I wanted to have read aloud books for our trip to Prague and so searched for some nonfiction...found this one..we actually read it before we left and it was a good story..good historical perspective but not a real easy read aloud book in terms of reading flow...
