Ask Not What Your Country Could Do For You. Ask What It Could Do To You.

John Cruise — better known as the superpowered delta Patriot — only wanted to serve his country, which has suffered under martial law since the assassination of the First Lady back in 1963. For years, he did so as a member of Delta Prime, the federal paramilitary organization dedicated to keeping delta...more

This is the first in Matt Forbeck's Brave New World Trilogy and part of his 12 for 12 novels. Back in the day I was a fan of the Brave New World RPG setting, but due to many factors I lost my connection with the setting. So while I am not totally unfamiliar with the setting, my memories of the setting were rusty when I started reading this novel. I feel that Matt skillfully fills in needed information about the setting without making it feel like information dumps.

As to the story itself. It was...more

Brave New World: Revolution is the first book in the Brave New World Novels and also the first novel released from Matt Forbeck's 12 for '12 Kickstarter project. I didn't know what the books would be like or if superhero stories would be any good in novel format but I supported the project anyway because I believed that Matt knew what he was getting into and he would do a good job of it.

Now having read the first book, I can honestly say that I'm proud to have supported him in this project. BNW:...more

Anyone who thought Austin Grossman's SOON I WILL BE INVINCIBLE was the best supers-story they'd read in narrative form should read this and learn that Matt Forbeck can write far more engaging stories.

Great narrative of wonderful (but darker than my usual forte, to be honest) characters that makes me wonder if Matt Forbeck can carve out the sub-niche of "superban fantasy." After all, lumping all supers stories into science fiction never seems right to me.

In any case, this was a great read and I...more

Okay so here are the facts. First this is not nor has anything to do with the Aldous Huxley novel. This is Matt Forbeck's Brave New World a pen-and-paper role playing game of superhero's in an alternate reality where America is under martial law, President Kennedy is still alive, Chicago was wiped off the map, and superheroes are required by law to register with the government or become outlaws.

John Cruise, the Delta know as Patriot, was a member of Delta Prime America's super powered police fo...more

Shadowhawk reviews the first in a brand new trilogy of self-published novels by Matt Forbeck, set in the RPG setting Matt Forbeck’s Brave New World. This novel is also the first of twelve in his 12-for-12 campaign, a crowd-funded drive to write a novel each month.

“Matt Forbeck kicks off his Brave New World trilogy in great style with an action-packed narrative that is also full of a variety of interesting characters set in a setting as unique as it gets.” ~The Founding Fields

Couldn't put it down. This book drew me in and kept me there, so much so that I immediately read the next two in the series. Matt Forbeck really knows his stuff, and a novel based on an IP he created is a perfect use of his considerable skill.

If you like superheroes, strong and compelling characters, and fast paced action, this is the series for you.

First in a trilogy of short novels based on the author's super hero RPG called Matt Forbeck's Brave New World.

I can't say much about the story without giving away spoilers, but it was an enjoyable read. It's also refreshing to read a short novel in this age of massive tomes.
