First published in 1928, this edition is a complete and unabridged reprint of the first edition. It includes a preface by author Shirley Hughes and a short biography of the author.

I don't remember this book from my childhood. I don't know if I ever read it/was read to. But my Mother purchased it for my first daughter, and I read it aloud to her.

She loved it.

It became one of the first chapter books she confidently, and willingly, read alone. You can't fault that.

Ten years later and I'm reading it...more

I don't know if other editions are as nice. This is a substantial hardback, crisp large font on bright heavy paper. Not 'premium' but v. nice. As the others have said, it's about innocence, village (not rural!) life, children who are a joy, families who truly love one another. And yet it's plausible, and not 'twee.' And despite being old, it's easy enough to read, and to infer, or use picture cues for, customs and objects unfamiliar. I will look for more.

i chose to read this book because it fit into the catogory of a book written before 1950 and this book was written in 1925. i found this catogory intresting because the style of writing is very different to nowadays. my favourite quote is “But she went and fetched some marigolds from her own little garden, and put them in a vase on the chest of drawers, for she knew there was lots of room for love, even if there was not much for great-aunties.” i learned that this book is a very easy read and wo...more

I am reading this aloud to my five year old and we are both adoring it. The stories are simple and kind, dating from (and perhaps glorifying) a time when life seemed better and less complicated. It is a wonderful introduction to rural life in times past and a great before bed read for little ones who can handle more challenge than your average picture book

Milly, Molly, Mandy is a wonderful character for your daughters to get to know. I didn't know about these books when I was young, but enjoyed them with my girls. These are keepers!
Aisha
I enjoyed all of the stories. What would make it better is that some of the stories should refer to things in other stories in the same book.

My 4 year old daughter absolutely loved this storybook. She was so sad when it was over! Great read aloud book for little girls.
Tiffany

A sweet introduction to listening to chapter books for older preschoolers or young primary aged children.

it was a great book to read because of the pictures which were explained in the words.I loved it

This delightful books takes us back in time to a British village. Milly-Molly-Mandy is a very proper and clever girl (almost too much so) who has a little adventure in every chapter. They aren't big adventures--little things like getting a prize at a party or going on a fishing trip, but they are cute.
My five year old son seemed to like it, although he complained once that it was about a girl. I don't think this would be his first choice. He likes more masculine literature!

A cute book of sweet stories about a little English girl and the village where she lives. When you get past the fact that you have to say "Milly-Molly-Mandy" and "little-friend Susan" about 500 times, it is a pretty good book. I liked it because it was sweet and full of good lessons for young children. I'm not sure if I'd want to read it again for a long time.

*Note: part of Sonlight P4/5 core package we purchased. Should I sell it??? Now that is the question.
Bethany
Adorable!

Finally a read-aloud, non-picture book, book for littles that doesn't have scary events or an orphan as the main character (it's scary for my little one to think about no mommy or daddy). We read to stories last night and she listened carefully and wanted more, but I made her wait. We'll do more tonight.

Enjoying this little village life gem from 1925.

This is a sweet story of a darling little girl that will make you smile and will teach your children good values. My son and I loved it!
I read this to Lila July of 2012 while Paul was away at St. Michael's Summer Camp for a week. We loved it and reread some of the chapters.

Idyllic, sweetly classic. A bit too sweet for some, but caught at the right age this is a simple series of child-size life slices with half the fat. But it's the illustrations and fact that it's auto-biographical that make it a keeper!
Elaine
A great book about a little girl named Millicent-Margaret-Amanda, or Milly Molly Mandy for short. It is an old-fashioned book set in a simpler time. Nice, clean, sweet stories. My 6 year old loves this book (and I enjoy it too).
Stephanie
What a delightful read this was. It is for a younger audience (though a much older one would appreciate it as well). My boys love this book - even though is is about a little girl and her life. This is a keeper.
