This book seemed new to me again, it had been so long since I last read it.
Zelazny most definitely has a distinctive "style," though I'm hard-pressed to define just what that is. In part, his descriptions are short, and concise. He uses dry wit to get some points across. his characters are always fallible -- even the infallible ones.
Here, "Conrad" has a history that goes back further than anyone can really trace. He has the strength that others can only imagine, and h...more

I got kind of depressed while reading this book. It's an excellent science fiction novel, written in the mid-twentieth century, with some really interesting twists and turns, and no mid-twentieth century anachronisms to speak of. However, it's vision of the future and of humanity is pretty dark. The ending made it worth it, though.

I enjoyed this, but it didn't blow me away. I probably liked the Amber series more. Zelaszny apparently has written a number of books that borrow or reference quite heavily from cultural mythologies - this one has quite a bit of ancient Greek influence, which is kinda fun. Anyway, it's a quick read, but ultimately will probably not leave that much of an impression.

Totally engrossing novel set in a post-apocalyptic earth. As usual, Zelazny's characters offer depth and richness far beyond the few words used to describe them. Often set apart from society in some way, Zelazny's characters never disappoint.
This Immortal draws heavily on Greek mythology, transforming ancient myth into a modern, post-apocalyptic mythology.

One of my favorite books of all times. Set in a future world, there are a lot of fantasy elements & it is Zelazny writing at his best - which is saying something. 'Lord of Light' & 'Doorways in the Sand' are two others by him that are close to being as good, in that order.

I don't remember anything striking me as out of the ordinary with this one. You'd better off reading some of the other Zelazny books, like the "Amber" series, or "Lord of Light". Might change my opinion when I reread this. :)
