Adorable, Cute, fun, Poetic. I absolutely loved this book. I love how Alice a mild mannored young girl has to take care of her unruly 12 year old sister. I love how she's into reading and wont change herself just to have more friends. She's a young woman with a very big imagination. Looking for a secret phrase in a poem.
There is a first crush story in the middle of this story that is perfect for young readers. So many books these days go from kissing to making out and more. In this story, they...more

Though I don't usually review short stories, I was interested in reading this one because of its play on Sylvia Plath's name, and the code that Alice discovers in this Sylvie Plate's poems. The book is short, a little over 170 pages, but a lot happens during Alice's day at the mall. She spends the day alternately trying to discuss her discovery with her English teacher, and trying to decipher the rest of Sylvie Plate's code--all while taking care of her exuberant younger sister, dodging mall sec...more

I'm an older person, but I read quite a few juvenile books and enjoy many of them. As has been stated in other reviews, there were some interesting aspects to this book - a teen with an interest in poetry; a teen with a sibling who is handful; a family with some problems; a mystery; a lesson; and a generally cute but slightly dark story. But the story doesn't get beyond being only mildly interesting. It's a good beginning, but it needs more development.
I am going to pass this copy on to a middle...more

Alice in Everville reminded me of The DaVinci Code right off the bat. It was what initially interested me in the book, but what ended up keeping my interest was Alice herself. This book is much shorter and much less puzzle solving intensive than the Da Vinci Code. Rather, it is a story of Alice, and I really enjoyed getting a glimpse into her life.

Alice is a girl that has a tough life. Her mom has served many stints in the "crazy" hospital and her sister is prone to very public and very humilia...more

My Thoughts:
Alice in Everville takes place all in one day. Alice whose favorite poet is Sylvie Plate discovers a mystery that no one has yet to discover encoded in Sylvie’s last work She spends the day chasing her wild little sister through the mall and trying to figure out the clues left by Sylvie. The adventure is somewhat comical and frustrating all at the same time. But the moral of the story is one that every person should learn, making the short read (176 pages) worth it.

This book was a good reads win and such a treat. So cute from beginning to end. The way it is written allows you to form a little bond with the characters. I like the message in it and would really love to read more about these characters. Loved it!

I received this book for free in a Goodreads Giveaway.

This book was OK. I enjoyed the elements of code and last messages and poetry, but the rest of it just seemed rather blah.

It's another day at the mall for most people. But for Alice, it's a race against time to prove that Sylvie Plat didn't kill herself. Between a ghost that roams the hallways, a cute guy that makes her knees go weak and a sibling who's too much for one person to handle, it's a crazy search for a book of poems that never dissapoints!

This is a quick read that interested me. It has a mystery that leads to a message for all. It has a lesson to teach us. Full review to come in January as part of my YA 2013 debut even!

It was okay. All of the fake pop culture references were driving me crazy though. Review to come.
