I watched the anime version of Mermaid Melody when I was 15 and completely adored it, then set about collecting the manga volumes. Already being a fan of the series, I loved the books as well. The artwork is cute and pretty, and each volume also contains lots of extra information after the story such as trivia about Japanese culture and mermaids. Volume 5 also has a mermaid fortune teller in! Also, the second season of the anime is only subbed in part, so in order to get the full story you have ...more

This is a cute enough little manga. I like the art, and I like that the romance seems to be partly inspired by The Little Mermaid, both Disney and original versions. But the truth is that I'm not entirely engaged with the story, and if it were just about any other manga, I probably wouldn't be continuing with it. It's lighter and shallower than my tastes, and I'm not taken in by Kaito yet. But... MERMAIDS. And so I will read every volume.
I so didn't enjoy this, but I so wanted to. It's very muddled and confusing, the art isn't great, the romance is not only unrealistic but creepy as hell. Maybe I'll try the next volume, because the plot has SO MUCH potential. But I probably shouldn't.
Review to follow either with the complete series or volume 2. So happy that I finally have the series complete now (took some effort though to get book 1 and 3). :)

I LOVE THE ANIME SHOW! I always been obsessed with mermaids. Disney's the little mermaid was my all time favorite princess movie as a kid.
I am going to start this review with likes and dislikes.

I like how she fell in love with a human boy. Super cute! I also liked how they put a twist by making him guess who she is rather then telling him. The story was perfectly put together. They didn't leave out any details. The connections with Rina, Hanon, and Lucia are great! The personalities of th

Hmm... I have very mixed feelings about the start of this series. It's cute. The art is pretty standard, but it's cute and fits well with the story. I like the idea behind the story and it seems fun.... However this is clearly the mermaid version of Sailor Moon. It's a little bit ridiculous. Not only do the mermaids transform to defeat the bad guys and say corny things to them, they somehow are always beating the bad guys too easily. But far worse than Sailor Moon, we as reader

This review is going to be the overall review of the series rather than the first book because I don't wanna keep reviewing each volume as it goes. I have watched the anime version of Memaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch around 4-5 years ago. And being that young, I didn't really care about plots, charatcers and all those things. As long as I'm enjoying what I'm watching I'm satisfied. For those of you who don't know, I'm a huge anime lover, I grew up watching animes instead of cartoons. And for my s ...more

As a whole I'm not very fond of the whole "magical girl" genre of manga but there's just something about Pichi Pichi that I adore. For a start the BESM artwork: OMG is it super cute and of course with the characters being mermaids we get lovely flowing hair and tails. I've also got to mention the penguin called hippo; again with the cute.

The story is interesting too, we have a star crossed lovers thread of our mermaid heroines and human boys – Lucia and Kaito the surfer, and Hanon and the music

Pichi Pichi Pitch: Volume 1 is a cute manga book about mermaids. The artwork is excellent and the story is a lot of fun. I found myself getting lost a little bit and the adaptation is not a fluid as it could have been and the story kind of jumps around a bit.

I enjoy the evil henchmen of Gackto that keep popping up. Their job is to grab the mermaids and take them back to their boss. But their sweet melodic voices have magical power and they are able to defeat those evil henchmen, or should I say

This book was to read for passing time and the storyline was very fun to read. This manga was primarily about how Lucia begins to develop feelings for a boy named Kaito. She realizes that he was the boy that she saved when they were eight years old: she saved him from a ship wreak, where both his adopted parents had died. Lucia is a mermaid and is set out to find the other six mermaids in her team to fight the evil in the waters: she only comes to find Hanon, her best friend, and Rina. They both ...more
This just didn't do much for me. I was a little disappointed, actually.

I think the problem was that everything just happened too fast and without a struggle. It took no time for her to find her pearl, no time nor struggle to defeat various bad guys. She found a new Princess every chapter just about with no effort involved. They just kind of fell into her lap.

There's also the fact that music doesn't translate well into manga, and this being a "singing" manga, it just didn't work for me.

Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch is your standard shoujo manga. The art is pretty, fun, and clean. It reminds me of a mix between Ultramaniac and Full Moon. The story and setup are similar to Tokyo Mew Mew, with the exception of the heroins being singing transforming mermaids. Volume one introduces the protagonist, love interest, several baddies and several other mermaids. Honestly there is nothing different or remarkable about the manga, except maybe that it tends to run a little more adult wit ...more
Mermaid Melody: Pichi Pichi Pitch should be a manga that I love. The art is adorable, it's about magical girl idol singers, and it even has a chapter about Christmas, which I love in anime and manga. Despite that, I came close to not finishing this manga. It was incoherent, disjointed, and remarkably derivative, with only the last chapter's Sailor Moon imitation coming close to being entertaining. If it gets better, I can see where people might be fond of it, but this is not a volume of manga I' ...more

My ability to follow this story and suspend disbelief just wasn't enough.

I love mermaids, but this doesn't really deliver. And its pretty formulaic (saying this after reading only 2 volumes maybe it gets better?).

The art is okay, the romance is bland, the story is kinda like ??? and the characters are walking cutouts.

Cute idea. Mermaids are cool. Princesses are cool. But....didn't deliver.

I've been told that the series picks up after volume 1. I suppose I'll have to read it to be fair to the series. But in volume 1: Mermaid Melody, I found the plot too sporadic and the dialogue often confusing.

The characters are supposed to be teens, yet they behave like elementary school girls.

I like the storyline that is a spin off of The Little Mermaid. I'm just not keen on the delivery.

if you liked the anime, you'll love the manga. end of story.
it's a cross between sailor moon and the little mermaid.
luchia saves a boy as a mermaid, falls in love, and goes on land to find her pearl, and to be reunited with her long time love.
it's really a classic story, very well written, very upbeat and easy to follow. i highly recommend it for anyone for has a soft spot for love stories as well as a liking for mermaids.

This was quite a horrible manga, actually? I guess 2 stars or something. Read it yeaaaaaaaars ago, the entire series, but I never liked it much to begin with and felt like it got worse tankobon after tankobon. (Or that's how I remember it.)

Will probably reread/skim over so I can add a reading date.

Wait, just wake me up when the story is finished...zzz.ZzZ....zzZ

Almost a rip off of The Little Mermaid. Well, the romance part. I couldn't even finish this. Was a recommendation and I wish I wouldn't of agreed. The only reason why I gave it two stars was because of the art. Its remarkable. But, it doesn't have anything else going for it.
