Good historical fiction, but not great. That's the summarized version, but for those of you who want a little more I will go into detail...
I thought a novel about Eleanor of Aquitaine would be a powerful story pushed along by a powerful character. There really was no central conflict that the story flowed along so it was going to have to be the characters that made it interesting and unfortunately it fell flat a lot of the time. I read this book just after finishing "The Constant Princess" by Philippa Gregory. This book is NOWHERE near as good. It was a compelling story, but there were too many characters that came and went in the story. It was also slow at times- I found it hard to motivate myself to read it. The last few chapters got more exciting and kind of redeemed it, but not so much that I would really recommend this book to anyone.
