Begitu juga buku Ancient Darkness ini, begitu buku no.3-nya keluar, baru saya berani baca buku no. 1-nya. Alhasil, begitu orang sudah banyak membacanya, saya sendiri baru menam...more

Fans of adventure and survival stories.
Wolf Brother is a tale of survival and good versus evil in a prehistoric setting. The main character, Torak, begins the story as a new orphan faced with an impossible quest: find the unfindable Mountain of the World Spirit and defeat the demon-possessed bear intent on destroying all Torak holds dear. Although he begins his quest alone, he is soon joined by a wolf cub who shares a special bond with Torak, and plays a special part in his quest. This story has it all. Well-developed characters,...more

An evil bear stalks the forest in this novel set 6,000 years ago when the world was a place of tribes and hunter/gathers. Torak (12) and a wolf cub set out on a quest to restore safety to the land.
OK story idea but I skimmed passages throughout. The characters happen upon the answers to the riddle instead of solving it. The ending was abrupt and our hero had little to do with the outcome. Some may find the setting, lifestyle, religious (for lack of a better word) traditions confusing, al...more

I enjoyed this children's fantasy set in a neolithic world of hunter-gatherers, mainly because of the setting, the characterisation and the relationships, particularly that between the central character, a young boy, and a wolf cub, who is the real star of the book. The plot is a bit random - one set of events after another with no real organic unity - but there's plenty of very good story-telling here - cliff-hangers at the end of every chapter and an emotionally satisfying ending.

Torak (12 years old), his wolf cub, and his friend Renn set out on a mission to rid the world of an evil bear who stalks the forest 6000 years ago. There is a riddle to solve before they can safely confront the bear (but instead of solving it, the answers seem to conveniently appear before them.)
This book is the first of a planned 6- book (I think) series, although it can stand alone. Author notes appear at the end. Good excitement and adventure for grades 4-6.

Here's a good referral to the boy who is reluctant to read. Starts off with a good kill in the first 10-20 pages or so. Middle school girls who like sci-fi or fantasy may also grab onto this one. Good intro to a new genre for the others...That is, those who won't have nightmares about the slayings. Paver did an amazing piece of work in telling what the world may have been like 2,000 years ago with giant animals, savage clans and ancient spirituality.

The elementary school I taught at bought this book as a set for group reading. I read through it just to know what I would be getting my student into. I was shocked that they had bought this for 3-5th graders, as it even scared me.
The story was good, and I think if I had read it in a different context, I would have enjoyed the book. There were some scenes, though, and some of the descriptions that were just honestly frightening.

I found the story confusing at the beginning, but I've found that a lot of books relating to Native Americans are confusing, like Spirit Horse, for instance. After a few chapters and a lot of implying, though, it gets easier, and I found it was a pretty good read, not a book I'd reread, but not a waste of my time. I might even read the next book, =/

Was recommended this for my neice, and was curious enough about it to read it myself. First of a series which up until now (4 of a series of 7) has been very good. Set in a world akin to the Northern Europe of 6000 years ago, although where the magic of the shaman was real and active.

This is a 2009 Rebecca Caudill. It's okay if you like that sort of clan/quest kind of thing. I finished it pretty quickly. It's well-written for middle schoolers who like fantasy or survival stories. The strong female who befriends him may interest girls as well.

a pretty good book about a boy around his teens who must stop the amazing forces of a monster you could say came from hell. It is action packed and very realistic for if our world was as primative as there's. It's a good book and it's a book that passes the time.

Still I'm included this books as a coincidence book because I'm just look at the cover, think a few times and then buy; and read it. Yes, I never imagined that this books is very great and I'm just hope the story is still like this. Fresh, natural and unique.

I thought it was okay. I can't really decide what I didn't like about it; I think maybe it was the ending. I just totally didn't understand what happened at the end--it was all so abrupt and confusing. I don't highly recommend it, but it's still okay.

Loyalty, courage, and tenacity are traits that Torak will need if he is to fullfil his mission. With the help of a bear cub as his guide he must find and destroy the giant, demon possessed bear that killed his father and threatens all the clans.

This is set in the time period just after the ice age, and has a lot of adventure and suspense. Recommend it to kids who liked the Hatchet series. (I haven't read the second and third books in the Chronicles of Ancient Darkness, but plan to!)
