The true gripping account of what really happened to Emmett Till on that fateful Summer in Mississippi. I read this book mainly because the site of the grisly murder, is my husband's birthplace and after researching some things about Money, Mississippi- I wanted to know the truth from the one person who could tell it - Emmett's mother. This is an eye-opening look at what happened, who conspired to cover-up the truth and the how their lives were changed from that day forward.

The requisite stuff: Would I recommend this book? Definitely yes! I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in writings about the civil rights movement & the forces that caused the 1960s period of mass movements, demonstrations & the fight for civil & human rights in the south. I would also recommend it to anyone interested in conditions in the South during this time period...it is an eye opener.

A very good book; it is the story told by the mother of Emmett Till, the 15 yea More...

Amazingly personal look into the tragedy that was the murder of Emmett Till in 1955. While I knew some general background information, his mother's story is moving and uplifting in the face of great tragedy. Mamie Till-Mobley forgave her son's killers and worked in the aftermath of the trial which set both of them free for social justice continuing through the Civil Rights Movement and later became a teacher. Her story is very moving and should be read by anybody who wants to know what racism More...

An extremely moving and important book, vividly describing the hellish circumstances of Emmett Till's murder as well as the remarkable strength, grace, and compassion of the mother who turned her family's darkest hour into a turning point of the civil rights movement. Sobering and highly, highly inspirational.

This one's essential. Period. I read it for my Civil Rights class and it's one of the saddest things in print. Still, it's extremely important and, from a mother's perspective, details one of the many heinous hate crimes that has taken place in the United States.

I don't normally read a lot of crime fiction but this one caught my eye one day at work. I knew nothing of Emmett Till and very little about the Civil Rights Movement. This book has opened my eyes to a part of history that I knew very little about.

The Murder of Emmett Till was one of the most significant events that really accelerated the Civil Rights Movement. This is a very well told story that clearly demonstrates the consequences of hatred and racism.

This book, written by Mrs Mobley not too long before her passing, told (finally)her side of her story. From being born in a small Mississippi town, to moving to Argo, Illinois as a small child. She married Emmett's father before he went to war, and he was killed for supposedly raping a woman just before the war ended. Having to raise Emmett, she worked at getting better employment, and decided in 1955, to send her son on a summer trip south to Mississippi. He never returned and it changed her li More...

This is one of the most heart-wrenching stories I have ever read. I cried more than a few times throughout the book. The murder of Emmett Till was such a important event that played a huge part in sparking the civil rights movement, and I hadn't even heard about it until I came upon this book.

This was a very moving book about Mamie Till Mobley's time dealing with her son's murder. Her bravery in the face of his death sparked the Civil Rights movement, something a lot of people are unaware of.
