This is the love story of Michael Keddington and Faye Murrow, a love story that takes place not in seclusion but in the real world, with the challenges that all lovers must face. No relationship is an island: There are threads that bind us all and pull at our lives -- the demands of family, of friends, of work, and social obligation. And there are times that the pull of th...more

This story reminded me of how hard life can be sometimes and how it can tear people apart or bring people together. It reminded me how much we need God and how much we need friends/family, the people who love us and support us. Some parts of life don't have a happy ending, but it helps to know that we're in it together and that in the end love ultimately wins. I especially liked this quote about carousels:

"She smiled in remembrance. 'I still come here a lot. Whenever life gets overwhelming I jus...more

I guess this is the follow up to The Locket---another Richard Paul Evans book that I've read so long ago, I can't remember a lot of the details. Even with the previous stuff murky, I was able to follow this one well enough and didn't worry about things I forgot.

This love story is about wealthy, privileged Faye and poor, scratch out an existence Michael who is an aide at a nursing home. Naturally, her family disapproves of the relationship and Faye is very smart and off to medical school.

I just love Richard Paul Evans. His books are so easy to get through and so uplifting. There are always trials and yet you put the book down satisfied and eager to fight any battles you might have of your own. Once I pick one of his books up, I can't put it down until I am finished.

I have said in previous reviews of JPE;s work that I find it draws forth an incredible amount of emotion. The Carousel is no exception. Like all his stories there is no complex plot, no intrigue, none of the erotic sensationalism that many find stimulating. He tells a simple story... poor boy meets rich girl, loses her and eventually regains her affection. But it is in the development of his secondary characters that Mr. Evans excels in this novel. The sick mother and daughter, the daughter befr...more

My Grandmother had a brother named Richard Paul Evans , which is what initially drew me to this author's books . ;-) How thankful am I that it did ! Although I have yet to list them all here , I have read many of his masterpieces and never does he disappoint . For myself Evans is a Chritmas time MUST read . He writes beautiful , touching tear-jerkers that I always walk away from with a lesson learned . My favorite from The Carousel A Novel :

I have come to believe that we do not walk alone in t...more

If you like Nicholas Sparks, Richard Paul Evans will quickly become a favorite, too.
"Carousel" is a love story with some predictable and unpredictable twists. The characters seem real and engaging and make you want to find out how they get along.
"Carousel" is also a story about what is important in life. A wealthy father comes to learn what means most to him after a tragedy and after being taught by his young daughter what life is all about.
This is a light, quick read. The point is made dra...more

Generally I like Richard Paul Evans' books. I'm coming to realize, though, that they are a bit of a conundrum for me. I spend much of each book depressed and sad about the terrible things that are happening to the main character, only to be totally turned around in the last 30 pages of the book and left happy and thrilled for the good ending. I'm not sure the last 30 minutes are worth the 3-4 hours of sadness. Sometimes it feels to me like the guy was repeatedly pounding his head against a tree....more

The good...I loved the "life lessons" at the beginning of each chapter. The bad...These flat characters covered too much ground for such a short book...depression, suicide, marriage, pregnancy, losing a baby, single mother with MS, death of a mother, several father figures (one overbearing, one who ran away, and one who abused his daughter). One of these topics would have been enough. I didn't love the book and I didn't hate it, so I guess I'll give it three stars.

A great book I was hooked right from the start. A couple in love, with trials and delays but the strength to make it through it all.

In The Carousel, bestselling author Richard Paul Evans (The Christmas Box Collection) returns to the story of The Locket's Faye Murrow and Michael Keddington, examining the resilience of love in the face of external obstacles. Evans's greatest achievement in this novel is his portrayal of lovers as they exist, not behind closed doors but in the world -- a world in w...more

Very rarely do I read a book - cover to cover - in one sitting. I read this book in one sitting - without stopping. It was a great story - a continuation of the story he began in "The Locket". I love how his books keep my interest - I don't get bored with the storyline or the characters. Easy reading books that are great entertainment, if that's what you're looking for in a book.

I can always count on Richard Paul Evans for a good, quick read that forces me to stop thinking about myself and instead think about the things that are really important. I really enjoyed this one, which is a sequel to The Locket. By the way, I just learned that the trilogy goes like this: The Locket, The Looking Glass, and then the Carousel. So, I guess I missed a step!

Read it in one night (quick reads but more engaging and complicated than Nicolas Sparks, who isn't one of my favorites). Also R.P.E. books are usually rated G clean :) and I am quite drawn to his characters, many of whom are based on real people he has met, or places he has been. Thanks for writing uplifting, redeeming books about people and giving hope and romance to life! :)

Richard Paul Evans makes his books simple, interesting and real. they are not over the top, and written to feel all the emotions. I have read 2 books from him, this one and the locket ani am very pleased, i gave this book to a friend for christmas, but will definetly buy myself a copy.

i also love the quotes he puts at the beggining of every chapter, love it!

What I like about this author is how much and how quickly he makes me care about his characters. For a long time, I'm not even sure which character I'm supposed to be most interested in, but they always weave together, helping each other grow and live life more fully, just like we are supposed to in real life. This is a great love story, but it is so much more.

This book was a quick read, but not a book I would choose to keep. I never got warmed up to the characters. Michael and Faye elope just before she leaves for college, and pay some large consequences for their rash actions. The persons I feel the most sympathy for are Blythe, Hallie and Sarah, none of them the main characters in the book.

A touching love story of a young couple planning for their future but an unexpected pregnancy drastially changes their lives. Separated by thousands of miles, the young woman is also affected by a relationship with another woman who is in hiding from an abusive husband. Lives are changed but true love really seems to conquer all.

This is a sweet story of what love in real-life looks like. Rather than love being held apart by a large lie or some other huge obstacle that is easily taken out of the way at the end, this story deals with real issues that couples face. It looks at the complications of life and how one couple dealt with them.

Sometimes in life you take detours that seem to be the right direction but end up leading you back to where you need to be. Along the way you may actually injure others and lead your footprint on other hearts. This story is exactly that. It is a sweet love story with lots of twists. A good quick read.

I didn't realize that this was a sequel to The Locket when I started reading it. Many of the characters and some of the situations seemed familiar, but I was pretty sure I hadn't read it before. That bit of confusion diminished the enjoyment initially, but it was another great Richard Paul Evans story.

Great story about Michael and his girlfriend from High school, they are good kids, hard workers, It's the story of their lives, sad and happy things that they go through people they meet and help along the way. Very well written Awesome quotes about life and death. SAD :( Great ending. definite 4 stars:)

This book was recommended to me by a neighbor. I didn't know what to expect. Probably a good book to read in the gloominess of winter. It is the equivalent of a Hallmark Hall of Fame movie, It teaches you a lesson, makes you appreciate those you love, and inspires. A "Chicken Soup" kind of book if you are into that sort of thing.

My two favorite thoughts to remember from this novel,

" Rarely do we invest the time to open the book of another's life. When we do, we are usually surprised to find its cover so misleading and its reviews so flawed."

"This was a year that revealed all of our souls."
Diane Mueller
I enjoy most of his stories but this was not a favorite. It was pretty depressing most of the book with only happiness coming in the last few pages. I read it because it was a continuation of The Locket but should of just stopped the story there and not continued it on.

This book reinforced my belief that life doesn't always turn out as you plan. But that doesn't mean there can't be a happy ending. My favorite quote in this book, of which there are many, is: "Life, like a good book, often comes full circle". Like a carousel.

This book was ok. Not my favorite Richard Paul Evans book. I didn't realize it was part of a trilogy until just now reading other people's reviews. That explains why I felt like the love story wasn't developed enough and also why there were a bunch of loose ends and characters and stories added that seemed pointless.
Sonny
Uplifting, clean, easy to read. Sweet story with trials and tribulations and happy endings. Isn't that we want from our own lives? The story removes us from our own consequences into the world of those who can beat the odds. Evans is always an enjoyable read.
Linda
I have read a few of Richard Paul Evans' books and enjoy the sweet stories he writes. This one did not disappoint. Not classic literature, but very enjoyable to listen to. Couldn't wait to get back in the car and find out what happened!

On a visit to see family we stopped into a bookstore. I came across a new book by Richard Paul Evans, and I couldn't set it down. My husband prodded me to leave the store, so I bought the book and finished it on the ride home.
