Love love love.
I got this as soon as I saw it go up on Addi's facebook page which I admittedly stalk, LOL.
Its NOT AS good as Addison's Celestra series but it's very damn close.
Couldn't really hate Wes I mean it's not like he intentionally set out to not remember anything, but it's also hard to love him more than Coop who's so damn hot sexy and sweet. He's also always on Laken's side and the only person she can truly be herself around.

This book was much better than I thought it would be. It gri...more

Ephemeral by Addison Moore

Rating 5****

Laken's world has come to a crashing halt literally. After a would be terminal car wreck, she awakens to a world that while the names and faces may be familiar nothing is as it seems.
Instead of public school, she is thrust into the world of the Ephemeral Academy. She learns that she is a carrier of a sect of Nephilium. The question is why can she remember her old life before the accident, and none other of the kids here can.
I have to say that I was a ske...more

A Zombie and Vampire and an Angel walk into a bar.

The Zombie says to the bartender….

Oh, forget it. There is no way in hell I can think of a funny way to finish that sentence so just do me a favor and pretend like I said something wildly hilarious. Go on…I’ll wait.

About two times a month I run across a book that I find almost impossible to review. It’s not because they are bad, or even great. It’s usually because they are so chalked full of “entities” (in this case: paranormal) that I find it dif...more

Addison is just Brilliant!!!

I didn't think that anything outside of the Celestra Series by Addison would capture my attention quite like it has... I was wrong. This is the beginning of something Amazing all by itself.

From the start you are sucked into Laken's story. I think this girl is kick butt! She is strong and determined. Is she a teenager? yes! Can she control how she feels? NO! does it matter that there are more than one hot boy for her? NO! I love how Addison writes her love interests.....more

The Story:
Ana: I read the whole book and I still don’t know what to believe. I followed the twists and turns with care, cringed as we met zombie-like creatures and picked a side in the love triangle…but I’m still not sure who to trust and I certainly don’t know what will happen next. This is a more mature book than what you’ll find in the Celestra series and it’s nice to...more

Opening Teaser

In the grand scheme of things, you’ll be dead a lot longer than you’ll ever be alive.
I marinate in that truth, baste in the beauty of its wisdom while peering out at the dull emerald world. I fumble through dense woods with roots that race across the forest floor like wild, petrified snakes. Wisps of lamp-lit fog twist throughout the narrow trails as gnarled branches coil around the evergreens.

Ephemeral oozes with idiotic girls. I can't fathom just how anti-feministic this book is. Girls in Ephemeral have no respect for their own selves. There are several instances of break-ups due to third party on the side of the boy, but instead of hating both the boy and the third party, the girl always exacts her revenge on the third party alone. Wut? What's worse is the girl whom the guy cheated on keeps coming back (and forcing herself) to the guy even when the guy is already clearly into...more

Well I am finding it hard to review this book considering the other reviews so maybe it is just my perceptions. One minute Laken is crashing through a windscreen and the next minute she wakes up in Ephemeral supposedly alive but in an alternate reality and being chased by a zombie type figure no less. Rescued by a mysterious stranger, she finds herself at a school she doesn't remember with a whole new life and finds out that the previous reality of Kansas was a dream who subconscious made up whi...more

My image of yummy Cooper Flanders:

His eyes widen as he brings my hand to his lips. “Thank you.” It comes out sad. Cooper smiles with his eyes as if my mental admission was all he would ever have to hear. “I need you safe, and I don’t think you’d be safe with me... His brows depress. “God, Laken, I would rearrange the universe to make you mine, I swear it.”

The author’s writing is really beautiful and poetic, the woman can write that’s unquestionable; but at times, and especially in...more

It's interesting coming back and reading the Countenance version after reading the Celestra series first. There is so much going on in this story. Zombies, angels, ghosts, all kinds of super naturals with a touch of romance and mystery! Laken is in a new strange and scary place with the memories of another life. Then Wes shows up the guy she loved from her memory and thought was dead. Now he is standing in front of her and she wants him back! He's a Count and she loves him. She discovers she is a...more

Addison Moore has a knack with writing stories that suck you in...eventually. It actually took quite a few chapters for me to get into the world of Laken, there was just so much disorientation on the part of the character that the reader starts out that same way. I love that they tied in a lot of elements from the Celestra series, so it appears this is going on at the same time as all of Skyla's business is going down. The thing that got me was the formula is slightly similar. Girl falls for boy...more

This book is just about one of the greatest things I've read! Addison Moore's ability to create a fantastical story and make it seem real is thrilling and exciting, Countenance is quickly becoming my new favorite series! Book 2 can't get here fast enough!

Laken knows she was in a car accident, she knows her parents are not really her parents, she knows her brother and exboyfriend are dead, but no one else knows these things. Spoon fed lies that she just can't believe Laken sets out to figure out...more

Laken, we're not in Kansas anymore.

I really enjoyed Ephemeral. I haven't read the Celestrial series so this world of nephilim and the different factions was new to me. It was a little confusing at first, to be honest. I wasn't sure if Laken had died in the car accident and was now in some kind of purgatory, if this was an alternate universe or she really did fall out of a tree house.

There was just so much going on in this story. Besides all the paranormal stuff, we've got major drama due to th...more

Laken remembers the accident, but she doesn't remember how she got here. Or what's with the fake family that seems to know her. This new world is strange and different. Things are way too weird and Laken wants to go back home. But what happens when she meets Wes, her dead boyfried she still loves, or Fletch, her dead brother she misses so much? Although Laken knows this is not real, she's faced with a choice: cling to what she truly knows, or accept what everyone tells her and let the old Laken...more

I really liked this book! The cover is gorgeous!

Let me just say, I was rooting for Wesley throughout the whole book. Even if he was a bit different, he still loved her so I don't see why it had to be that way! Team Wesken all the way! Cooper is a whole different story. I thought he was okay, but he just flirted with her way too much. And he knows she's taken, but he still does it!

I was confused with all the Spectator, Count, Celestra, etc. business. I got confused with who got what powers and w...more

The beginning of this story starts off fast pace and the way it's written is so the reader is just as confused as the main character Laken. Laken finds herself floating towards a light and then suddenly she's on the damp ground in the middle of the woods at night. Then the creatures come and she's running for her life and into a complete hottie, Coooper Flanders, who saves her life and then disappears into the night.

After making her way out of the woods she finds herself faced in a world where...more

Ephemeral is one enormous, complex twist. Laken finds herself in a world where the impossible is real and the truth is hidden. Those she thought were dead are in the flesh and people she doesn't recognize are wreaking havoc on her sanity. What is real? Who should she believe?

I liked Laken ~ she's determined and courageous. The girl's got some raging hormones, though, and it's no wonder. What would you do if the guy you've loved all your life ~ who you thought was six feet under ~ happened to tur...more

As always I read a book not remembering the synopsis which is usually a good thing because then I'm not anticipating what is going to happen. This is one of those times when I wish I HAD read the synopsis because the first 45 pages confused me so much!

It's not until I am about 50 pages in that they finally say what they are. Frustrating really because I didn't really feel a build up to her finding out. More of she thinks she's crazy and then the next they tell her what she is and the what the cr...more

Oh, how I loved this book. I apologize now for any gushing and rambling that will occur in this review. 'Ephemeral' is a completely enchanting novel that mixes the best aspects of genres together and produces something entirely new and unlike anything else out there. There's so much going on throughout the story - zombies, creepy supernatural creatures, angels, and alternate realities. There's a superb mix of mystery, romance, thrilling action and a fast-paced plot that compels you to keep readi...more

First I'd like to start off by saying this is the first book of Addison Moore's I've ever read, and I was amazed and impressed! The book has all the elements that makes it not only memorable, but breath-taking as well: mystery, yummy boys, a girl named Laken (hehe) and the ability to make a reader pause, and really try to grasp what's occurring.

Within the first four pages Ephemeral had me making a confused face and saying "huh?" I re-read the beginning few pages just to make sure I hadn't misse...more

I'll be honest, it's been a long time since I've picked up a book and just had to devour it because I had to know everything that was happening. You know, that moment where you're reading and you're so involved you just can't stop? One more chapter turns into three, then five, then before you know it you've plowed through the whole book in two days (and the only reason it took two days is because you absolutely had to stop reading because everyone else in your house made you).

"Ephemeral" was one...more

The premise of this story is great. It's not like anything I've read before.

I can honestly say the character that kept me reading was Cooper. He seems like the only one that is somewhat sane. His character is also easy to like. I spent most of the book wanting to slap Laken. She's fickle and clings to an idea that needs to dissolve. Although I admire her for not believing what others tell her happened. She refuses to give up on her life in Kansas. I started liking her more toward the end of the...more

I was so, so excited at the beginning of this book. It was funny, scary, and hot. Then it lost it's momentum and had a mediocre ending. I enjoyed reading Ephemeral, I just wish the plot was more structured.

I started Ephemeral without first reading the synopsis so I really had no idea what the story was about. The shallow me thought that the girl's dress on the cover was pretty thus making the book a worthy read. But lo, I've read so many books with pretty dresses on the covers with stories that did not end up as pretty as their front. And yes, I thought that this might be one of those books BUT fear not, friends. Ephemeral is a quite a shocking novel. Its...more

I’m not going to even try to pretend that things didn’t happen in Ephemeral that didn’t make me go back pages to try to figure out what just happened or that I didn’t wish I’d have kept a steno pad next to me to keep track of all of the names, but I’m going to go with my gut on rating it. I just couldn’t put it down.

“I’d hate to be responsible for removing one of Ephemeral’s star players from the roster. I’ll stay as far away from Coop as possible.” I dot the sentiment with an impish grin.
“Hello,” a familiar voice booms from behind the counter.
“Cooper!” I jump a little at the sight of him.
Shit.”
