Yoko Nakajima is the perfect daughter. She's a good student, she always does what she's told, she never complains, she never calls attention to herself -- perfect. Except for her red hair that stands out everywhere in Japan, but no one can explain that one. Aside from that, she's perfect. So, when she starts falling asleep in class, it's surprising to everyone. If it weren't for those terrifying dreams, maybe she could get some sleep at night. ...more

There’s a lot of fantasy fiction out there, mostly consisting of orcs and elves and manly heroes. Problem is, who wants to read “World of Warcraft” when you can play it instead? And some authors seem stuck on emulating J.R.R. Tolkien’s mythology.
Fuyumi Ono, however, creates an unchartered world for our imaginations to explore. She introduces us to Yoko, a studious high-school girl who obeys her parents and her peers. Only problem is, she’s having a recurring nightmare that intensifi...more

Absolutely any girl/woman who even KINDA likes the fantasy genre.
I read this book after watching the anime, and wanted to fill some of the holes that the anime left.
What an amazing book. World creation, character development, storyline...the book has such an old, cherished internal themes (and matches up with the daydreams of many, I would bet), but is done in such a fresh way that it's quite unlike anything else. Very empowering, powerful little series. I am, however, very unhappy that only one book a year will be translated...I'll be almost 40 before...more

those who like intense stories...it is not for light reading.
I was fascinated by the study of the main character, Yoko, as she changes throughout the novel. I didn't always agree with what she did, but I found that I could understand and sympathize with her character more thoroughly than in most books. The author very adeptly wove a character driven tale about trust and betrayal and learning to trust again.
This one is actually a novelization of a manga/anime series. It is the first book, but I didn't have a problem reading it as a stand alone.

Fantasy lovers
The Anime based on this book is my all time favorite. If you like fantasy and sword's fight this is the book for you. I'm so happy to see this book is going to be published since anime has left out quite a bit of the story. I can't wait for this to come out.

Another book I can read again and again. I love the anime series that came from this series of books and I equally love the books. A good read.
