I won this book on the GoodReads First Reads.

Since it was the third book in the series I wanted to read the previous books to fully enjoy it. Ok, I know the author considers this to be her best book in the series and I have to agree. Don't get me wrong. I enjoyed the previous books as well, but reading this one had me more on the edge of my seat. I sincerely hated to have it end. Once again, we join the owners of the exclusive Alaskan resort, The V.V. Inn, Vivian and Rafe as they and their staff get themselves into dangerous adventures and heart stopping romantic escapades. This time around, Vivian and Rafe are heading to Argentina in advance of this year’s Tribunal gathering, in hopes of figuring out exactly how much the leaders know of Vivian’s abilities.

Travelling along with them is Drew, a 150 year vampire and new to Vivian’s seethe, his human girlfriend Chelly, the newly turned vampire chef Paul, ground crew member Bob, and Aussie Tom. They have left Vivian’s werewolf servant Jonathan to run things at the inn, where they are expecting a party of werewolves to do some off season big game hunting. Helping Jon at the Inn is security chief, undead ex-military vet Asa, and newly turned werewolves, Asa’s brother Eric, and Eric’s best friend Pat.

What starts out as a regular hunting visit by Jon’s ex-pack, soon turns totally lethal, and in order to keep everyone safe, Jon will have to tap into all his alpha abilities and Asa will have to step up as a military strategist. Between the two of them, they will have their hands full with psychotic werewolves, randy shifters, and an unknown enemy out to get them all.

Meanwhile, back in Argentina, Vivian, Rafe and company have their own set of problems. The staff at Vivian’s island getaway is acting strange, members of the Tribunal are causing Vivian anxiety, and Rafe will soon learn exactly what he will do to protect the one woman who he loves more than life itself. Welcome to the world of vampires and werewolves with all the politics, intrigue and erotic adventures that go along with them.

Ms. Ellison has once again given us a great paranormal/murder mystery/erotic love story that we can sink our teeth into, really get our blood boiling and our hearts racing. Written alternately between Vivian, Drew, Asa, Jon, Paul and Rafe’s point of view, Ms. Ellison brilliantly takes us into a world of vampire politics, werewolf pack hierarchy and all the intrigue, violence, laughs and romance that goes along with it.

If not written well, a reader can get lost switching between so many points of view but Ms. Ellison is becoming such a master at this, that not only is it not confusing, it seems the only way the story should be told. Each character tells part of the story, each leading to the next and each giving us a different look at how everyone interacts with each other. While each character has their story to tell, to me, this book was all about Rafe. Before we’ve seen Rafe as just Vivian’s mild mannered husband, the man who keeps her sane and helps her run her little empire, now we see a different side to him. Oh, but Rafe is so much more than the man behind the power, he may have actually been the stronger one in this relationship all along.

There is so much going on in this book, that it is impossible to fit it into one little review and I won’t even attempt to try to do so. This is a darker book than the first two and, in my opinion, a little more erotic as well. Each character has to dig deep down into themselves to discover if they have what it takes to overcome the obstacles thrown at them and all find out just how strong they are. The dark moments are broken up with some truly sensual, steamy love scenes and a few laughs to lighten up the mood.

While you don’t have to have read the first two books to follow this one, it would certainly help to understand the dynamics of the characters. There is some pretty intense violence that might make some readers cringe but it all lends to the flow of the story and I can’t imagine the book without those scenes. There are also some pretty explicit love scenes, not porn, but explicit enough that it might require you to have a cold beverage and a warm companion close by.

I can’t imagine what Ms. Ellison has in store for us in the future for Vivian, Rafe and the staff of the V.V. Inn but I can say whatever it is, I can’t wait to find out.

Book three of the V V Inn begins where the previous story left off. The beautiful Vivian (a.k.a. Dria) is on her way to Argentina with her husband and a few servants to get to the bottom of the recent visit from members of the Tribunal. Jon, the V V Inn’s resident werewolf, is back in Alaska with Asa holding down the fort while his Master is in Argentina. Preparing for a group of vacationing werewolves visiting the inn to hunt wild game, he is not ready for the unexpected events that come his way. When guests start getting shot by hunters, questions loom over who they are following and why. Unfortunately the answer lies a little closer to home than Asa and Jon would like. On top of all of the chaos, Jon realizes there are more female werewolves lingering about than he originally thought. Is Dria trying to set him up with a mate? Why is his mental connection to her so faint? And what is the deal with Spike? That werewolf is all over him and the confusing vibe he is getting is making him uneasy.

This was a fun book but it took me a little while to get through. It has a great plot and I enjoy the mystery of it, but at times there is so much detail it slows the story down. While I appreciate the visualization, sometimes knowing every small detail can become monotonous. On a good note, the action and suspense does make up for it and the storyline is easy to follow. I love the characters and how C.J. tells the story from their various points of view. It adds an interesting dynamic and allows you to understand what each character is thinking as a scene plays out. What I loved the most was Rafe’s determination in this story, When the life of his wife is at stake, the calm and collective man that so many often see, disappears behind the savage that will stop at nothing to save his love and leave a bloody trail in his tracks. Spike was another pleasant surprise. When Jon learns the truth about him, and is willing to accept that truth, it became a very sweet moment. Knowing Jon was willing to put himself out there to be scrutinized for Spike’s sake made me like his character even more.

Overall this was fun read with a little bit of sex and a lot of blood to satisfy vampire and werewolf fans looking for a good mystery.(less)

I first want to state the I have not read the previous books. My opinion is based solely on reading just Big Game. I like reading books in order but I also think that each book should be able to stand alone if someone chooses to read out of order. First of all, let me say that I don't normally read paranormal books. Next, let me say that this series drew me in and captured me big time! I read the first book in the series and I was very intrigued with the characters, and it has just gotten better with each book. I thought this book was not only a great read but shows a great evolving author. While I have loved all the books in this series (and this was my intro to the whole genre) this one is great for the double story line. Mystery, intrigue, action, and steamy scenes in two locations with the three couples (not all together) made the book fast paced.

Along with the couple, we have been introduced to a number of important characters, human, weres and vamps who all help try and keep the status quo of this resort. I have become somewhat addicted to this story as many other readers and we cry out for more when the last page is read.

The Hunt was the second in this series, getting deeper into the family that is emerging from the close knit environment and the need to protect their family or seethe as Dria calls it. Ms. Ellisson changed the writing into the telling by POV of 7 of the characters and was met by a little resistance. Most of the reviewers were not sure, but in the end her writing skills had most everyone happy with her choice and the book faired well.

Jon and Asa have bonds that go deep with Dria and Rafe and now Drew and Paul do as well. Jon is deeply in love with our leader and in The Hunt I had been left with a feeling that this will not end well. Paul, who had been our human chef, was attacked and bitten, and now is a vamp wanting to keep his position. Imagine a Vampire Chef who cannot eat... Ms. Ellisson's humor is not lost on her readers, but Paul is determined to keep his position and has many weres gagging at some of his attempts at receipes now unfit for consumption. Too Much orregano fella???

Dria and Rafe have been together for well over 50 years, and the love and ‘the spark’ is still there, which heats up the pages with hot steamy scenes. Rafe has humanized this over 500 year old vamp, and made her want to exist again just for him. Rafe for the first two books has been strong yet stayed in the background, an anchor for Dria to hold back the side she no longer wants to be. She has tremendous secrets and wishes no other but Rafe to know this, that is why she chose Alaska to get away from all the Vamipre Empires prying eyes. In The Hunt, Dria has hoped Coraline does not remember what powers Dria has.

So Big Game was a total surprise to me... can you believe that? I had thought Jon or Asa would be the focus, but although they were an integral part of this story, Ms. Ellisson stopped me cold. Again this story was written in 6 POV’s (try that sometime authors) Vivian, Paul, Drew, Asa, Jon and Rafe.

Paul, Drew, Asa and John all were tested and had to dig deep within themselves for this one...

Dria and Rafe set off to Argentina with Paul and Drew leaving Asa and Jon to take care of the Inn. It is off season and a Hunt for a Pack of wolves should be easy... and would have been, until the Inn was under seige by hunters shooting with silver bullets. Jon cannot reach Vivian thru their bond, and does not know why. Paul and Drew are tested in different ways on the trip and are separated from Rafe and Dria, needing to solve issues of their own.

But Big Game was all R.A.F.E, and the strength of the man we didn’t know. He didn't show it until his need to protect his love and her life left him and the reader consumed in the heart of him. Ms. Ellisson you left me breathless. This book was your finest and has shown me how you have grown in your writing, bringing this story to heights I did not expect. I cannot wait for the next installment...

Ellisson has finally hit the nail on the head with her third book in her Vampire Vacation series. With the right mix of suspense and well-placed sex scenes, Big Game is a must read. I really like these characters. It's a great core group. The writing is a little weird, each chapter is from a different character's point of view & their words and interactions. The chapter tells who's it is (sort of like a title). Once you get used to it, it flows pretty well. BIG GAME is fantastic storyline in the VV Inn series by C.J.Ellisson. The infusion of vampires, werewolves and magic is nothing new, but C.J.’s ability to weave the characters in to an exciting story will leave you breathless and wanting more. And the love of a man for his mate, will bring a tear to your eye when one wolf loses his mate and an ancient vampire is rescued by a force so powerful, even the seethe members were amazed.

What can you say but...wow! I love the V V Inn series like no other. The story is gripping from the start,as a continuation from "The Hunt". The characters retain their fantastic,interesting,weird and wonderful quirks. Some also aquire new ones to go with it. The plot twists and turns so much,you are constantly kept guessing,and all my guesses where completely wrong. I found myself gripped,a few times even dumbfounded! C. J. Ellisson has written another wonderful saga continuing the tale of Alexandria and Rafe and the VV Inn. While the master's away, the werewolves want to come and play. They arrive thinking they'll have fun hunting big game. Only thing... well that would be giving too much away. Mean while, in Argentina, Alexandra doesn't realize she's the one being hunted.

This is the third book in the V V Inn series, and as usual a great read. It is a definite page turner. This is extremely well written in the POV of 6 people. I don't know of many people who can pull this off to keep someone interested, but C.J. has done a wonderful job of it. I can not wait to read the next book in the series.

Couldn't sleep anymore so I woke up and realized that Big Game came out today so I went searching to see if they had it available to buy yet and to my surprise they did! Instantly bought it and I am currently reading but when I came to add it to my currently reading list on Goodreads, imagine my surprise that it wasn't listed. Of course I just HAD to add it because this is one of my favorite series. I will probably spend the rest of my day trying to finish reading this book. Definitely loving it...more

Wow this series just keeps getting better and better! Big Game is the perfect name for this book that’s for sure. In this book Vivian and half of her seethe go to Argentina to try and find out who’s plotting ageist her and why?

Unlike in the second book where the story was passed off to each person seamlessly... This was a little different because the group was in two different locations. OMG!!! This is a series that has been on my TBR list, but I never quite got around to it. I’m so glad the next one is due out soon. I LOVE these books. They are hysterical, sensuous, snarky, sexy, funny, tender, and did I mention snarky?

The title Big Game made me think we were going to get mostly the story about Jon, Vivan’s sexy werewolf, vampire servant but I was wrong. Big Game really does sum up the book. There are so many games going on in this plot from the werewolves that come to the inn to hunt, to the games that the Tribunal vampires play at the Seat of Darkness.

I started reading Big Game on the train to work, should have learnt my lesson with the first two books. It was amazing, could not wait to get back on the train and into the book. C.J. Ellisson did it again with pull that surrounds you and and scenes that excite you. And with the different POVs its several sides of the same story and you want to get back to know what Rafe is doing but whats going on in VV head is ARHHHH. Amazing simply AMAZING

Brilliant Book. A must for the lovers of vampire and werewolf novel fans. Two story lines which keep you involved and feeling part of it. Felt myself being drawn into the stories and second guessing what was happening.I felt that I have got to know most of the characters in the series and shared the thrills and emotions that they experenced. The sexual elements were a bonus addition and very enjoyable.
Can' t wait for next book.

I love this series ...but....this book is written with 2 main plots going back and forth between the two, it's one of my pet peeves.
I would have rather it had been split into two books expanding both stories. The story is good, but I think it would have been two great books. The part I loved....RAFE! This was a Rafe we haven't seen before, he has always been the calming influence on Vivian/Dria, the hot sexy guy, but here is BAD ASS CRAZY RAFE and I loved him! If you read the first two VV Inn books and are like me, you can't wait to check back in with Vivian, Rafe, and the rest of the seethe for this third installment. This book has not only one, but two focused plus as Vivian sets out on a fact finding expedition in Argentina while Jon and Asa run the inn. C.J. Ellisson adds even more tension to the plot as she unwinds Vivian's dark background. You'll love this third installment!

C.J. does it again. This is a must read book. If you love your vamps and weres, do yourself a favor and pick this up. The description she gives makes you feel like you are there with the characters! There is all you want...suspense,mystery, and lots of good steamy scenes as well. Some twists and surprises keeps it all going and makes you want more.Its a "leave me alone, I am reading" kind of book. Great job C.J.!

I have to admit, C.J Ellison is fast becoming one of my favourite authors. She has written such strong characters, and i love the fact that the story centres around a strong female, not a woman dependant on a man. I loved the twist with Spike and my heart literally stopped at the end of chapter 17. I cannot wait to see what else C.J is going to do. I think i could read absolutely anything she wrote.

C.J.'s books gets hotter and better every time she writes one. The Big Game is my favorite so far in this series. I like to say when the Vamps are away the werewolves will play. She takes this book to a hole new level by creating 2 different stories but connecting them as 1 and I loved it. All I can say is if you like erotica and hot sexy werewolves and vampires then this book is for you.
