The story is about a family who, because of the advice of their rabbi, attempts to give the perfect Hanukkah gift. The Knoodle family exchanges names. Little Yekl gets a pickle barrel from Bubby Sadie, Bubby Sadie gets a curling iron from Shayna, Shayna gets frogs from Little Yekl, Papa Jack gets a straw hat from Mama Pearl, and Mama Pearl gets a red guitar from Papa Jack.
