I love pubs and I enjoyed A Level Sociology so this book was full of promise for me from the start. The mass observation project is a wonderful example of early English Sociology. Observers made detailed notes about the behaviour of people in Bolton (and other towns) beginning in 1937. Bolton was given the pseudonym of Worktown.
