This short episode written by Iris Johansen and Roy Johansen is a great sample of writing skills. This episode involves Janet Sanders who visited her fiance's apartment only to find blood all over the kitchen floor and walls. But there is no sign of Dale Baylor. She goes to the police and they tell her they will keep her notified of their findings, but they don't contact her at all. She goes back to his apartment, her key only fits in the back door. To her surprise, the blood is g...more

It’s a short story by Iris and son, featuring Kendra Michaels who is the main character in a forth coming book (July) "Close Your Eyes" by the pair. The police are no help and when she returns to his house she finds it empty and no sigh of the blood that she saw earlier. Its Kendra who gets to the bottom of what happened and all is well. No more from me, but the upcoming book shou...more
This particular short story may have been somewhat predictable, but was still good and I really liked Kendra. It has an almost Mentalist-type vibe but, w/ added interest due to the whole formerly-blind angle used to explain, not only Kendra's honed auditory, olfactory, and tactile senses; but also, her desire/accute ability to take in more visual cues than those of us who have had the gift of sight from birth/ a very young age are able.
I must say I was a bit disappointed. Although it did give us some background information on Kendra, I thought it was almost not worth reading. It think the author should either have made this part of Close Your Eyes or gone into more detail on Kendra's life as a blind person.
I am not a short story fan, as I need more time to get to know and empathize with a character or characters. I liked the general feel of the characters in this story, and I love the Sherlock-style behavior of Kendra. It felt like I was watching a very short episode of the new show 'Elementary' which I really enjoy. Although, Kendra seems to have a more normal emotional response to people than Elementary's Sherlock does. I am looking forward to reading the novel that follows this short story &...more
